Eagles May Be Hiding Andrews

Written by Garry Cobb
Tuesday, 12 August 2008

I've yet to see Shawn Andrews at the Eagles training camp.

The Birds say he's working out, lifting and doing cardiovascular work with the trainers, and will not talk to the media until he starts practicing.

I wouldn't be shocked to find out he was back at the Nova Care complex working out with no media around.

I think the Eagles are doing the right thing. if Andrews is truly battling depression he doesn't need to be focusing on a lot of dumb questions he might be asked by the local media.

Yes Gary, they're hiding him from YOU

can somebody please read rich hoffman's article today and tell me if it isn't the laziest, most retarded article of the summer?

he starts out by noting that there are significantly less fans attending TC and concludes interest is down due to general lack of interest. thanks for the insight. he then informs the reader that the eagles are actually still wildly popular but that that they may have hit their capacity for fans ... because the team hasn't been as good. he interviewed exactly no one for the article. and then it was over.

Belongs in the "Columnists" thread, but good grief.

Even admitted he didn't talk to any Eagles brass. A throwaway article that made the back page of the DN? Tells you all you need to know.

debatable. this is the training camp 2008 thread, and this was about training camp 2008. plus, the "columnist" thread is for writers with balls, not writers who wake up in a panic 35 minutes before their deadline and realize they have nothing to hand in.

i mean reading that, i could almost remember what if felt like to have a paper due that you hadn't worked on, and you have like two hours to try to fill up three pages of something.

Well, that thread also denigrated into a "let's show a writer who doesn't have balls", and lo and behold, RH's columns kept popping up.

Not that it matters, either way - the column should be first-rate crab covering.

It was like he was trying to explain the lack of people in Lehigh, but didn't want to say anything that would make the Eagles' FO look bad (hence the "they're still the best around and elicit jealousy" comment), so we've come back full circle.

Man, my head hurt again.

ugh, and then he starts talking about how it's not that there aren't a ton of fans, but that they've hit the ceiling as far as growth .

so what's the article about, rich? that fans are losing interest in the team or that there simply isn't much more market left to be conquered by the still wildly popular eagles. because, like, they are two totally separate, actually kind of opposite points and can't really be discussed interchangeably.

I would send him an email. These guys write back sometimes. Stan Hochman wrote back to me last time I had an issue with one of his articles. Or at least someone did from his email address, maybe an intern or assistant.

You could ask him if he reads the 'Level.

My favorite part is the picture. A group of ten or so supposed "fans" meant to demonstrate the sparse attendence, which could just as easily be a shot of some people waiting for a bus.

A nothing piece that apparently stirs controversy while ultimately kissing butt. You see this more and more as the journalism field collapses. Even the established writers are afraid of alienating anyone powerful lest they lose access and become expendable.

But it is an interesting point and one that Lurie and Banner might want to pay attention to. A few more seasons like last year, a few more moves like getting rid of Jeff Garcia, and that photo may prove prophetic.

it's hilarious how fast and blatantly he pulls a 180, isn't it?

mainstream journalists would be wise to take heed. they are becoming less and less relevant, and fast.

zak, i considered writing to him, actually. i did send it in to FJM.

they are becoming less and less relevant, and fast.

Bill Conlin is waiting for them in that faraway land.

WIP (for entertainment purposes only) has been running with the theme of less people at camp, and RH just decides to jump on with no clue and no counterpoints. I think it's foolish to compare Dorney Park's #s - pretty much pulling stuff out of his rectum - as an example of things not changing, since DP's #s can also be attributed to the # of summer trips and special interest groups going there. Their #s changing also appeal to a different audience than TC, so he's off-base again (what else is new).

I don't think the Birds are in danger of losing their #1 spot anytime soon, but training camp is starting to have a "been there, done that" feeling to it, IMO.
