Fans are asked to treat Chiefs games like bowling matches

See all those fans in that picture? They are dirty, filthy people who are running afoul of Arrowhead Stadium law and should be ejected and beaten with a railroad spike.

The Kansas City Chiefs have a "Fan Code of Conduct," which is essentially a list of rules that fans have to follow when they're attending a game at Arrowhead. In theory, it's not a bad idea, as you'd like your stadium to provide a friendly atmosphere for families and people who aren't drunken hooligans.

In practice, though, it might not be such a great idea, especially if the person responsible for coming up with the rules is an 85-year-old woman who teaches the 2nd grade and regards standing up as one of the evil things that young whippersnappers often do. Seriously, standing erect is the No. 2 item on the list of things that are prohibited:

CHIEFS FAN CODE OF CONDUCT
The Kansas City Chiefs are committed to creating a safe, comfortable and enjoyable experience for our fans. When attending a game, the stadium staff will proactively intervene to support an environment where event patrons, their guests and other fans can enjoy the event, free from the following behaviors:

• Foul, obscene, offensive or abusive language or actions
• Standing and/or obstructing the view of other fans
• Intoxication or other signs of impairment
• Smoking except in designated areas
• Fighting and unruly or inconsiderate behavior
• Obscene or indecent clothing or signs
• Conduct that endangers spectators or participants
• Harassment of visiting team fans
• Interfering with the progress of the game, going onto the field or
throwing any object onto the field
• Failing to follow instructions of stadium personnel
• Selling items or tickets in the stadium or on sports complex grounds
• Attempting to sit in a location other than the guest’s ticketed seat
• Destroying property

Event patrons are responsible for their conduct as well as the conduct of their guests and/or persons occupying their seats. Please respect the rights of others. Event patrons and guests who choose not to adhere to these provisions will be subject to ejection without refund.

Pat-Down Policy
You and your belongings may be searched upon entry into the Stadium. By tendering your ticket and entering the Stadium, you consent to such searches and waive any related claims that you might have against the NFL, the Kansas City Chiefs, its member clubs, their affiliates and stadium landlord, or their agents. If you elect not to consent to the searches, you will be denied entry into the Stadium.

PROHIBITED ITEMS
For the safety and security of our fans, the following items are prohibited in Arrowhead Stadium:

• Firearms, weapons of any type or fireworks
• Bags larger than 8½” x 11” x 6“
• Backpacks
• Sports balls
• Coolers – any size, any type
• Plastic, metal or glass cups, cans or containers
• Thermos bottles or flasks
• Food
• Beer or liquor
• Video cameras or professional cameras/lenses
• Boom boxes
• Portable heaters
• Flammable liquids
• Noisemakers – air horns, klaxon, bells, whistles, etc.
• Laser pointers of any type, poles or rods
• Large strollers
• Any other items deemed dangerous or unacceptable by security

ALLOWED ITEMS
The following items are permitted into the stadium:

• Fanny packs (unattached from your body)
• Purses no larger than 8½” x 11” x 6” (must fit in template at the
gate as you enter the stadium)
• Banners, signs and flags (no larger than 3’ x 5’) are permitted as
long as they do not interfere with other guests
• Small diaper bags (if infant is with guest)
• Plastic baby bottles
• One sealed, 20-oz. or smaller bottle of water per person – guest
may refill the bottle at any water fountain inside the stadium
• Binoculars and case
• Small still camera and case
• Hand-held radios and TV’s are permitted if they do not interfere
with other guests – an ear piece must be used to listen
• Small compact umbrella (rainy games only)
• Seat cushion – lightweight foam with sealed plastic cover

WHAT! No Firearms, weapons of any type or fireworks.

What is an Eagles game without a bottle rocket, M80 or shooting off a flare gun to liven up the crowd?

WHAT! No harassment or beating of Giants/Cowboys/Redskins fans visiting the stadium? That is a total fkn complete outrage. That takes away from the ideal experience of watching an Eagles game live. BULLSHIT.

I'm “all in” for the no fans standing during the game.

I'm also in for all drunken swinging dick fans that turn around in their seats towards me instructing us and my friends to stand and cheer when absolutely NOTHING is happening during said game. FUCK YOU AND THE MULE YOU RODE ON NUMBNUTS. I’ll cheer and stand when something actually happens, OK dillweed.

Those dingle berries should be beaten, hung, tar & feathered. I don't see that on the list of CODE OF CONDUCT so it should be OK.

I also didn't see fkn your hot ass girlfriend in her seat during halftime either against the CODE OF CONDUCT either, so that should be OK as well.

Yo, click it

Ok, I can understand the softies thinking most of that stuff is unacceptable, outside of the standing thing. When you go nuts cheering, you stand up, that's just flat out BS.

The things I have a problem with are the items.

• Plastic, metal or glass cups, cans or containers

But then it says
• Plastic baby bottles

Which is it? Can we have plastic containers there or not? If so, I'll just get my scotch from a rubber nipple.

Also, how are you supposed to get concession drinks? Is everyone in the stadium regulated to drinking just water?

• Food
How the hell am I supposed to sit through 1 hour of getting settled, 3 hours of football and 1+ hour of getting the hell out without food? Sure, I can tailgate before, but some people have diabetic contitions, I guess they need to "take one for the team" then? Same problem with concession funds, you can't eat, you don't make cash.

• Beer or liquor

This is just stupid. How can I break the rule about being drunk if I can't have booze anyway?

• Video cameras or professional cameras/lenses
Depends what you mean by professional, but come on. So I want to take a shot of the game, it's not like I'm filming practice, and we know that's never penalized.

• Boom boxes
• Portable heaters
• Flammable liquids

How am I supposed to play breakdance music while lighting Cowboy fans on fire now?

• Large strollers

Does this include wheelchairs? Because they're bigger than large strollers.

What a bunch of freekin tools.

I wish these pussies would put their money on the line.

Stop selling booze inside the stadium. I fuckin' dare ya. That eliminates 85% of the behavior they say they don't want.

Also, rules that involve forcing people to sit in their seats are retarded.

I'm “all in” for the no fans standing during the game.

And I'm "all out" for that.

The best part of playoff games at the Vet would be the fact that no one ever sat down. Everyone was always up and moving, and the place was crazy. Besides, when it's cold, sitting still is one of the least intelligent things you can do.

Of course, in my seats in eBay Heaven at the Linc, people only stand on defensive third downs.

If you can't stand, I'll bet there's a comfy chair at home with your name on it. There are plenty of people who'd be happy to take your place inside the stadium.

Standing up and cheering when something is actually going on during the game is one thing (TD, INT, SACK, Ect). Standing for no reason is another. If you’re at the top of the stadium and you’re not blocking my view be my guest.

I remember those days at the Vet when every one stood during the whole game. That atmosphere will never be duplicated with the wine and cheese crowd at the Linc.

My first set of season tickets were in 729 last row back in the 70s. We stood the entire game, every game. Then I moved down to 371 in the late 80’s.

Unfortunately those days at the Vet are long gone. Also is the day when my seat cost 200 bucks for season tickets. If I’m paying 2 or 3 bills for a single game seat you need to sit down so I can at least enjoy the cheerleaders asses.

Now that I’m a bit older that comfy chair at home with my 46 inch flat screen works just fine. Cold beer inches away, bathroom right down the hall, and if the Eagles are playing like shit I can turn it off.

Probably why now I only go to a few games a year. Not so much for the bozo standing in front of me telling me to stand and cheer during a TV time out but more for the price $$$$$ of attending the games.

No offense, but I thought you'd be larger

You right about one thing- that's why I refuse to go to games anymore- the yokels had me wanting to fight everytime- screw it. Rather watch it (regular season, anyways) on TV

Fred

My living room is rather small so the 46 inch FS fits nicely in there. If I went bigger I'd have to put it on the wall and then my entertainment system would be worthless. I got a shit load of LPs stacked in there and CDs. Got no where else to put em.

As it is I had to modify my ES so my FS would fit inside it. With the surround sound it makes for a very comfortable layout.

The family very much ENJOYS the FS experience watching the games/movies in HD. It is fkn awesome and I don’t have to deal with the swinging dicks or the hour drive down to South Philly to watch a game live. Feels “live” in my own home.

I took my brother and his family to a Phils game a few weeks ago (Angels). It cost me over $500 bucks to watch the Phils get 5 hits and score 2 runs. I should have stayed home but my brother, his wife and kids had never been in CBP so I thought I’d show them a good time.

Back in the Vet days I could have got decent seats for a Phils game behind home plate for 10 bucks. If they lost who cares.

After spending 5 bills they better win and kick ass. Howard better put one in the upper deck and Jroll better hit for the cycle.

To go to these games now is ridiculous. You feel like you are being raped even if the home team wins.

"I got a shit load of LPs stacked in there"

'atta guy.

Yeah, goes w/o saying that I really don't dig the atmosphere of the place as compared to what we all knew at the Vet. Sometimes it's close, but all in all, it is like a Disney jungle ride vs. the Amazon.

I think that most fans have become sorta "institutionalized" along the way. We've become used to order, structure, and planning. At the Vet, shit just happened.

Yes, when taking my kids to the stadium, I appreciate the fact that it's less likely now that a drunken deathmatch could erupt at any given time, but that "ANYTHING can happen" vibe that was always present at Broad & Pattison is virtually gone now.

BTW, the NFCCG win was great but sorta hollow. I couldn't believe that sitting through a game like that (apart from the last 6 minutes or so) had become an accepted practice in less than two years. Saw many a playoff game, and the final game at the old house and nobody ever sat (upstairs anyway...I can't speak about what the bluehairs & bluebloods did in the 200s).

Funny thing about pro football. I've gotten to a point where I don't like going to sporting events that much at all unless I have club box tickets or something... I'd just as soon watch from a bar, or mine or someone else's living room.

But if the Vet were still open, no doubt I'd still be going to 4-6 games a year. The place was just an incredibly fun place on fall Sundays. And I missed the supposed "glory years" during Buddy Ryan's tenure.

I couldn't agree more.

I mean the tailgate was phenomenal, but the game itself was a strange atmosphere. The whole time I kept thinking, "Shouldn't people be more excited?"

I wasn't trashed at all for that game, yet I remember very little about it. The losses to Tampa Bay and Carolina are much more memorable. Even the win over Minnesota seems more memorable to me.

I really miss the old days watching the Phils at the Vet. Every year, we would buy GA seats (I think they were $2) for the Phils-Bucs doubleheader. This is when they were true doubleheaders, 2 games for the price of one. We would bring in a cooler full of drinks and hoagies from Chick's or Raymonds.

I can still picture the game when Bruce Kison drilled Schmidt and started a brawl. Ed Ott broke Schmidt's finger. The fights broke out all over the 700 level the rest of the night.

Ah, the memories.

I do NOT miss the Vet for baseball. Nuh uh. What we have now is exponentially better. Don't get me wrong, it was still a fun time, but let's be honest here. It was a disgusting baseball venue.

Other than the turf the players had to play on, it was a great place for football.

Gotta agree with Zak. Other than the dirt cheap upper level tickets (and you couldn't even see the effing ball from up there) the Vet sucked for baseball.

Agreed here as well. The Vet was a rat hole for baseball. The sight lines were horrible. Unless you sat in between 1st and 3rd base in the lower level it was tough to pick up the ball. Some of the seats were obstructed so that made it even worse. But if you were a 15 year old kid with 5 bucks you were golden in the cheap seats.

For football it was like the Roman Coliseum. Throw em to the Lions! They way it retained the noise was wonderful.

When it first opened I thought it was beautiful for baseball. Phil and Phyllis behind home plate during the National Anthem. The Liberty Bell out in center field with the cannon every time there was a Phils home run. The two big screens with the clapping hands. The multicolored seats.

By the late 80s it was a dump.

"The losses to Tampa Bay and Carolina are much more memorable."

Talon, I think that part of the reason for that is because as fans, nobody does "gut wrenching, soul crushing defeat" better. The Red Sox fans used to give us a good run for the money, but you see what happened to THAT particular dynasty.

I think that in '04 this team was as close to an automatic win week after week that anyone could remember. Couple that with the subdued tones of the new place and you get what we got. Can you imagine what would have ensued if the Eagles would have actually WON the last game at the Vet? Dare I say that if they would have won two weeks later as well, fan history may have placed that game just a little higher on the measuring stick in spite of the championship drought. Why? well, because we were all there for that one.

I hate to admit this, but there's a part of me that will never forgive this team for taking the colossal crap on the field that they did in that game. I realize that there was another team out there that made the plays that the Eagles didn't, and that emotion can only take a professional sports team so far, but I'll be damned if I can say that I'm the same fan today as I was before that day. They lost more than just an NFC championship that day. They had a shot at both immortality and creating an eternal bond with the fans and they blew it.

Like I said, nobody does gut wrenching, soul crushing defeat better.

One of the guys I originally had season tickets with always said he didn't care about getting to a Super Bowl. He just wanted to see an NFCG. Makes sense, considering how may Super Bowls are blow-outs. Well, at least we've all seen a couple now. I do agree that the final loss at the Vet was particularly frustrating. I mean, why throw out most of the slick plays that got you to the game in the first place and put in a plan that's so conservative a high school team could beat it?

For me, the win was great. If the Linc seemed flat it might have been the cold or the fact that when many people saw the weather forcast, they sold their tickets. I know the die-hards at the Vet, who mostly got shut out when they raised the prices, would have rocked the joint. But after ponying up my cash for 18 years, I was gonna savor every last moment of that game.

But that's all in the past. What about the future? Anybody think we're gonna see another NFCCG in the next, say, five years? Be honest now.
