With the following players retiring this year or thinking about it which 5 (maximum allowed) will be inducted on first ballot?

Brett Favre
Larry Allen
Warren Sapp
Jonathan Ogden
Junior Seau
Rod Smith
Michael Strahan

I would have to imaginge that R. Smith and Sapp would have to wait. Any combination makes for a hell of a class.

Favre
Ogden
Seau
Strahan
Allen

Sapp gets in the following year. Rod Smith is iffy.

I'd be surprised if Rod Smith ever made it, to be honest. Very good player, but not shrine-worthy, IMO.

Great class, though, and I think Allen or Sapp waits. Allen was an all-time freak, but the Sapp stats on defense might sway some voters who aren't really prone to liking guards anyway.

I didn't mean to repeat exactly what Zak said...

Favre
Sapp
Strahan
Seau
Ogden

There aren't many guards in the NFL, so that might hold him out this year, but I think he is hall-worthy.

R Smith will be waiting for a while if he even gets in at all. He was solid, but in a different stratosphere than a guy like Rice. His numbers are comparable to guys in the hall--probably better than a number of guys in the hall, but he played in a different era.

Favre
Ogden
Seau
Strahan
Allen

NO Sapp in the 1st yr.
I think Larry Allen could get told "see ya next yr".

I think Favre, Seau, Strahan and J.Ogdon are mortal locks.

Quite the class indeed.

I don't know that I agree that Strahan is a mortal lock for year one. He is for the Hall, but he may be a second year guy because of the class size.

I know this isn't football, but do you all believe that Schilling gets in the Hall? And if so how long does it take? He's career stats aren't exceptional (too long in the 90's with the Phils), but his career playoffs are lights out. He'll be very interesting come Hall time.

Long as we're on the topic, baseball's class of 2013 could be equally strong-- if Bonds, Sosa and Clemens have played their last games, some VERY intweresting decisions for voters-- on top of Piazza and Schilling.

NFL-wise, Favre, Ogden, Strahan are year one locks. I could see any of Seau, Allen and Sapp getting red-shirted, so to speak...

Strahan- he of the career sack record, is a definite first year entrant
