The thing I heard on the radio was they were playing up his two 100yd TD returns as an excuse as to why it could work.

Never mind the fact that this team painted themselves into a corner with this move and are trying to appease him with a move that's not going to work.

Sometimes you just shake your head.

A couple of things not mentioned I'm watching for:

Can Gocong continue to progress into a better LB this year? Can he improve his lateral movement?

Who is going to be 4th LB to play if there is an injury to one of the Starters?

Who is going to be the FB? Do you really think Kleco can do it?

Will McNabb go against his self imposed "I'm not runing" policy, in order to prove that he is fully back from his ACL?

How will McNabb respond to Kolb being one snap behind him? Will he improve or wither?

I see no reason why GoCong would take a step backwards. The system and the way they used him last yr towards the end really put him in good position, and I see no reason that they'd suddenly sway from that type of scheming / calls.

I already alluded to Klecko, from my take, its a long shot.
But it will be interesting.

I dont think McNabb cares that Kolb's the no.2 QB.

I do expect to see more mobility outta McNabb in 08, just like he was able to do more each wk in the 2nd half of 07 as he healed.
I dont think he'll ever be a "RUNNING QB" again, but I think he'll be far better able to move / ellude a rush (UNLIKE THAT AWFUL GIANTS SUNDAY NITE GAME) than in the 1st part of last season.

And occasionally yes, I see him advancin the chains with a run.

The 4th LB in my opinion will likely be Jordan.
They're really high on him and he's gotten a good bit of ink in the offseason.
They are stacked (relative term, more meant to imply BODIES than all world talent for purposes of this post) with LBs headin into camp, making it (as if its not always) my favorite thing to watch as far as which LBs make the squad.

Lito at WR is a really bad idea. Lito on the Cardinals and Boldin here, on the other hand, is a very good idea. Not that it will happen.

Birds inked Demps today to a 4 yr deal.

Glad he's in. I cant recall off the top of my head the last time they had a guy taken on day 2, already signed in May.

Anyway, 1 down.
And 1 of the more important ones (IMO)and one im really lookin forward to seeing in pads.

It's ironic that the Inq had interviewed Kolb about getting Lorenzo Booker and didn't even ask McNabb about him. Things are lookin' grim for Supa 5 now that the media is overlooking him.

I don't think McNabb is in town because it is the rookie camps. Kolb has been all over Comcast, as well. It's all preseason hype and mumbo jumbo. Means nothing. Happens every year.

It's also all DeSean Jackson all the time. The man is building a lot of hype and will have a lot to prove if he keeps talking. Time to shut up and get to work.

Agreed Irwin. I'm all for bravado and confidence especially in a receiver. But we went through that before with Mitchell. Jackson just has to get his ass on the field this season and contribute.

But that's a tough thing to do for most rookies at this level and even tougher as a rookie on the Eagles.

DeSean only has one place to prove himself this year and that is as a return man. WR is all incremental value if he gives any. We already went through the Jeremy Bloom fiasco. Special teams is so critical to the game this year, and rookies have proven in the past to have an ability to make a difference in that part of the game.

Irwin- wrong.

Jackson will be on the receivin end of plenty of McNabb passes this yr.
I think that he will have his own set of plays, a package for each gm in which they'll try to get him the ball- and certainly on the field- plenty of those plays will be decoy plays, deep, but they'll also throw him the ball plenty underneath (HOPEFULLY IN STRIDE) and downfield.
More than you've seen from any rookie wr in the Reid era.

Jules- 5 is not around. Nobody is pushin McNabb aside, he's just not here.

My point was that it is critical he make an impact on special teams. That is the biggest need that he can fill. He will definitely be given the chance for plays on offense, but I don't believe he'll have a major impact there. If he does that is gravy. Some very good gravy. And I am only talking year 1, as well.

Eskin on Sports Final completely refuting the notion that (his competition on the Sports Talk Dial's 'big story') Sheppard was told by the Eagles he could play WR if he shows up to camp.

Says theyve never even discussed it.

However, he accurrately states what a 'non' story it really is.

I think we could see him more this season than he has since 2002 or 2003. He'll never be what he was those first couple seasons on the move, but we all saw his legs come back and I think his stubbornness about NOT running all those years will be the same personality trait that drives him to run more this season (proving to people he can do it). He probably won't be dynamic with the ball in his hands, but he had a 5 game stretch at the end of last year where he had 29 carries for 166 yards and I don't think 80 carries is out of the question for him this year.

I'm pretty sure that Demps was a kickoff return guy in college. The fact that they will keep 4 safeties, will make it tough for JR Reed to make the team this year.

Considine just plain blows--can't tackle or cover--not a great combo for a guy playing strong safety in the NFL. Reed can at least hit, but his cover skills are average at very best.

Mikel and Dawk are the 2 starting safeties, Demps is one of the backups--Spuds says Considine is the other guy.

Does Considine bring something to the table that I am missing?

I think Considine is good in coverage, doesn't make mistakes, and is a good special teamer.

The negatives are obvious...not enough sand in his pants, he gets embarrassed on the field when he's trucked (which has to affect him psychologically), and his body has failed him every year (with 2 serious shoulder injuries, that prevent him from getting much bigger in the off-season.

I don't know what they'll do, but I think they'll think Considine is a better reserve than Reed.

Theres always hope that (sadly its come to this) that S.C's shoulders dont hold up.

Not like im goin out on a limb here either.

As for this FD-
"will be the same personality trait that drives him to run more this season (proving to people he can do it)."

Ive said this in the past before too. Citing his love of the chip on the shoulder.

I called for it the year post TO. No gotz.

Figured that maybe he'd do it after they drafted Kolb.
No gotz.

I have therefore no reason to suspect we'll see a ton of rushing or noticably moreso than in the past 6 yrs.

I think he'll flash the regained mobility to keep drives alive etc- but I do not feel he will conciously use it as a WEAPON which he was not shy about doing early in the career.

We'll have to see...the days of him getting "spied" are long gone, but I think he's going to run more for the 5- 7 yard first down, QB draw in the red zone, etc.

Look at last year, once his legs came back a little. In his first 8 games, he had 21 rushes for 70 yards. The team was 3-5 during that stretch.

In his last 6 games (really 5, since he barely played against Miami), he had 30 carries for 166 yards and the team was 5-1.

I think 5 carries per game (as an average) is in the picture here.

I see what you're saying about predicting this before and not seeing it, but you're also talking about 2 injury riddled seasons. This will be his first year entering the season completely healthy since 2004 (knocking on wood).

I really like Reed - he reminds me of Wes Hopkins and Andre Waters - just a flat out hitter. He obviously isn't as good as those guys were but I'd still keep him over Considine.

But I agree that the Birds will think Considine is a better reserve.

I get that he ran more each wk it seemed in the last have of 07.

I just dont hold my breath that he'll rediscover how much fun it is to keep D's off balance by usin them wheels.

Found the following article on Yahoo.
Talks how Jackson doesnt pay attention in practice unless Fat Andy is watching the receivers, but that his talent in shorts seems to be way up there.
Effortless with the ball in his hands, etc.

Also saw this quote from Andy which kinda jives with what I figured they'd do and what i was sayin to Irwin this wknd:

"“What we can do right now is move people around, put some pretty interesting groups out there,” Eagles coach Andy Reid said. “DeSean will be in a lot of places for us, the slot, outside, places where we feel we can get matchup problems.”

Yo, click it

I think the main problem with Reed is he only has one leg.

If he had 2, he would have been the starting SS for a couple years now. I really believe he was going to be a pro-bowl caliber SS in the NFL before that injury.

Also saw this quote from Andy which kinda jives with what I figured they'd do and what i was sayin to Irwin this wknd:

Yeah...that's definitely the plan. Reid's said as much a few times and Spuds has been saying it. I think once they saw him in the post draft camp, they knew he had the ability to play right away in limited snaps (deep passes, drag routes, bubble screens, end arounds, etc.).

He'll have to play his way out of those packages (or get hurt) at this point.

With McNabb, he won't be a "weapon" running, but I'm betting we're going to see more than we have. I'm thinking 70 or 80 rushes...something like that.

Finally, the article linked above...I'll take the guy's word for it (regarding Jackson's behavior at practice), but the Eagles are posting practice footage on the web site and you can watch it (about 10 minutes are allowed to be public per day). I've watched very little because it's most warm-up type stuff, but I have seen probably 2 days of the WRs running through drills in practice. In that footage, Jackson was second in line both times for drills and probably half the WRs took off their helmets after they broke a drill (the one time I saw them break a drill).

I'd question whether this guy was actually in attendance and if he was, I know I can say that Jackson definitely hasn't had that attitude the entire camp.
