I was just wondering if the Eagles are signing more free agents than usual. Even after Asante Samuels, and Clemmons, I don't remember this much movement in the back of the roster:

Jamal Jones WR 3yr contract
Bam Childress WR 2yr
Xzavie Jackson DE 3yr
A.J.Schable DE 2yr
Jerome McDougle still on team.

And that list doesn't count the new fullback and tight end.

And I read that the Eagles have close to 12 draft picks which is high compared to other years. So a lot of free agents signings when they are about to get a bunch of draft picks.

What your theory on what it means or even if you think its not really that different.

Where are all these players going to fit, are we going to see a lot of the backups getting released?

I guess this topic is of no interest.

So the Eagles really have shifted this year to build through Free Agency. They signed 7? players so far.

Only two of them could be considered guys they're building on though

I would like to see them lineup a guy named Xzavie.

Of the guys they signed, only Samuel and Clemoms are a lock to make the team. The other guys are the same scrap heap flier they sign every year.

Klecko is going to make a run at FB, Bam Childress will get a shot to win the punt/kick return job with whoever they draft. Rocky Boimen will get the chance to win a backup LB spot and play special teams.

It's not any more action than they normally have (IMO), with the exception of the top end player in Samuel that they don't go after every year.

JosLOL Hanson re-signs for a one year, $1.5 mil tender.

I thought I saw contracts for these supposed scrubs for 2 or 3 year contracts. Makes me think that even if they don't crack the starting position, they will likely stay with the team and push someone off of special teams.

That would be only 2 and they did actually make the team.

But they're not here now. They're 2 or 3 year contracts, but the bonus is next to nothing, so they can't be cut at any time.

I just don't consider signing backups that may not play, and probably will be gone in a year or two, "building"

Yup...you don't remember them because most won't make the team and 1, 2, or 3 year deals don't matter if there's no bonus. They are just covering themselves in case the player becomes...a player.

- Jeff Mroz

The list goes on. Out of that list, 2 played very sparingly, but were on the roster all year. One won the starting punter job.

Xzavie Jackson has been on the Eagles practice squad since November.

Bam Childress was on the Patriots practice squad.

I think Schable was out of the league.

None of those guys played a single game last year.

Then what's the point?

The point Oxford was making, as I saw it, was the Eagles seem to be more active this year in FA than in any other year.

My point is I think it's been basically the same as any other average off-season, give or take a player and he's just noticing these scrub names more this year.
