This is partially in response to an article in today's Inquirer. Perhaps Reid and Banner were simply doing Buss Cook a favor knowing full well that Moss had absolutely no interest in leaving NE. Cook, Moss’ former agent and agent for Favre, is close to Reid. One could easily speculate that Cook picked up the phone as a favor to Moss and asked Reid to do a favor for him – drive Randy’s price up. The Pats knew full well Moss didn’t want to leave so they low balled him and told him to explore other offers to validate his worth. Instead of stirring the pot with all the other 31 NFL teams Moss' agent simply got one to play ball. And what do the Eagles get out of this for playing along…good PR to quench our thirst for a number one wideout.

You think it's good PR to get a fan base that is DYING for a #1 WR hope that they will get one?
Sounds like more pressure on them, to me.
Also, if that were their intent, why not invite him in? The story got leaked and I didn't get the impression they were happy about it.

of course it was leaked - that's the point. first thing first, you're nuts if you think management is going down the randy moss road. his work ethic isn't necessarily top notch and let's not even touch his charachter issues. second, if moss was truly testing the free agent waters there would have been word of other teams' interest a heckuva lot sooner. he sat idle for week. not inviting him in gives credence to my point. there would be no reason to invite him in if it was really a bogus offer which it obviously was. reid publicly stated on more than a few occassions that moss told him he had no intentions of leaving. that right there should throw up the flag for you.

I worked in PR for Hitler and I think it's a GREAT idea to chum the waters full of crazy fans and take extra heat about acquiring a WR I have no intention of adding so an agent (who used to work for a player I used to coach) can get a nominal increase in his commission.
Wise.

I'm kinda on board with fap1800 here. I do not believe there is any way in hell the Eagles would ever sign Randy Moss. I can also see why they might have thought it would have looked good to say "See, we went after Moss."
Seriously, ask yourself if you can envision ANY scenario in which this front office would sign Randy Moss.
I cannot.

Since when has the F.O. received points for "trying"?
Can you imagine a scenario where leaking secret contract discussions with Moss does anything but INCREASE the already massive pressure they are under to pickup a #1?

I can.
Its called Saturday March 1st through Monday March 3rd.
They are NOT the same F.O., at least it doesnt appear to be.
I dont think it marks a total change in philosophy, but i think it marks a perhaps temporary willingness to make a real run while they still have both tackles, Dawk, and perhaps Supah 5.

Going after a real #1 WR would be a change in philosophy.
Just not sure I'm going to buy them going after someone with Moss' baggage.

Going after a real #1 WR would be a change in philosophy.
They went after T.O. and they went hard after Javon Walker.
I think they have understood what a great WR can do for the offense since T.O. was here (they dipped their toe in the water on the cheap that time). They had him in 2004 and 2005. They attempted to address the position with Javon Walker in 2006 and just couldn't beat Denver's offer. There wasn;t anythign available in 2007, but they gave $30 million to Kevin Curtis as a stopgap. Now they've contacted Moss and they've definitely contacted Arizona.
It could be argued that their philosophy has been desperately trying to get a WR in their recent history.

And even after T.O. took their offense and them to the next level, they stayed cheap

Why was Buss Cook involved? He's not Randy Moss' agent. There would be no reason for Reid to even speak to him about Moss. So why did he? Once it was reported that the Eagles made an offer to Moss there was substantial buzz that the Eagles are truly interested in a number one. Then all of a sudden the Fitz and RW rumors are moving again and the fanbase is excited. That't the purpose the "offer" served.

And I'm not convinced the Fitz talk is on the level. I cannot see Banner forking over 30 million in guaranteed money to a receiver. That's what Fitzgerald will get unless he's cut, which aint happening. BTW, Curtis is not going to see 30 million. To my knowledge, no receiver has ever been guaranteed 30 million until Fitzgerald's crazy escalators kicked in this year.
