mary todd's been suffering from a terrible depression, but the doctors are saying that as long as she is not subject to any undue stress, like say another death in the family, she should be ok.

Nah, I say we give the old geezer his own thread...
FAVRE SITUATION SUDDENLY GETS WEIRD
As it turns out, that dark cloud in Wisconsin could quickly become a storm.
Brett Favre's agent, Bus Cook, has told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel that Favre wanted to play another year, but that he felt like the Packers didn't want him.
Uh-oh.
"I know he wants to play one more year," Cook said. "I do not know much conversation there was and I don't think anyone forced him to make that decision. But I don't know that anyone tried to talk him out of it."
Uh-oh.
"I think he wanted to play," Cook said. " I think he's still got it. He knows he's still got it. I think he felt he could play one more year. I don't know if they told him they really wanted him to play. That's just the feeling I got."
Uh-oh.
Asked whether Favre could be talked into returning, Cook said, "I don't know."
Well, maybe the media speculation that the guy who brought Favre to Green Bay, former G.M. Ron Wolf, might be whispering to Bill Parcells about trying to get Favre to Miami is more accurate than we initially thought. Because if Favre wants to play another year and if it's not with the Packers, then maybe it will be elsewhere.
But if Favre doesn't play for the Packers in 2008, either because he's playing for someone else or not playing at all, we think that there could be an enormous backlash against the team. Specifically, G.M. Ted Thompson could find himself in the crosshairs of the fans' criticism.
Never mind the fact that Thompson has done an excellent job; the perception that he ran off Brett Favre could be the quickest ticket out of town for Thompson.
If, in the end, Thompson gets saddled with the brunt of the blame for Favre's departure, the pressure on Thompson to leave, too, will be tremendous. And, as a practical matter, it will put him on an incredibly short leash if the team falters in 2008.

Peace out douchebag. I'll miss your guaranteed two interceptions per game against the Eagles but I won't miss the soap opera you loved so much. How this guy got a free pass for the rookie mistakes he made throughout his career is beyond me. I guess it's allowed if you "love the game" and are "a gunslinger" and "just having fun out there" and "just trying to make things happen." Piss off. Now I have to endure a season of Favre knob-slobbing.

Multiple league MVPs, a Super Bowl win, and owning basically every meaningful record for a QB (in addition to never missing a game) will earn you a little leeway.

Thought the media slobberfest was out of control about a year ago, then he came back and did quite well (well, minus the NFCCG), so he's earned the lovefest.
Just don't want people to forget that he went out his way - throwing to the other team.

That's right Bass. Favre's first & last throws of his career were to the other team.
Seems fitting.

Just saw the press conference video and it never gets old seeing a grown man cry.
Always makes me chuckle.
Think he even has Michael Jack Schmidt beat on his tear fest.

I remember Schmidt's press conference and feeling douche chills as he cried like a baby during his retirement speech.
Being a Phils fan it was also very embarrassing to watch.
Seeing Favre's press conference yesterday reminded me of Schimdt's. He just looked and sounded so pathetic.
I mean get a fkn grip and act like a man!
Stop fkn crying you fkn baby!
You made a boat load of money and you’re still fairly young.
It's not the end of the world for Christ's sake.

from "truth and rumors"...
Sal Paolantonio called Brett Favre overrated and argued the last decade of his career was pedestrian. Paolantonio not only attacked Favre's credentials, but blasted the media for heaping undeserved praise on the quarterback. Paolantonio bases the bulk of his argument on the quarterback's playoff record in the past decade, when the Packers were 3-7 and Favre posted a mediocre passer rating of 77.8. He cites Favre's overtime interceptions in playoff losses to Philadelphia in 2004 and the Giants in January as examples of a player not nearly as good as his press clippings. That narrow view fails to acknowledge that without Favre, the Packers in many cases never would have qualified for the playoffs. One measure of a great player is how he makes his teammates better, and Favre was the master at elevating players around him. For example, Favre's starting receivers in 2001 were an aging Antonio Freeman and an ordinary Bill Schroeder. Yet the Packers produced a remarkable 12-4 record, largely due to Favre and his 94.1 quarterback rating.

Um, what was Ahman Green- chopped liver?
Bubba Franks was garbage I guess? KGB with double digit sacks? Their defense ranked 5th in points allowed?
Sal, mastering this thing called football insight as usual- you're right on the money, my man. Keep rockin

They had a couple good players, but it was Favre's show.
Green was a fumbling machine, but he helped drive that offense for a coupe years. The defense had a couple players.
Bubba Franks? He would been Boxcar Bubba without Favre.

The defense had a couple players? They gave up 14 passing TDs all year while snagging 20 picks. I'd hardly call that 12-4 year a one man show.
Are you a "coming out the closet" Favre fan or something? Sal Pal is omnipotent

Come on Fred...let's not get crazy. The defense indeed had "a couple players". It was by no means world beating team and they were probably a 6 win team without him.
Let's just keep it real.
That's just a fact.

As opposed to a "Favre throws 6 picks, 3 for TDs" bonanza in the loss to end that season.
Favre couldn't hold Sal's jock

In all seriousness, who is worse than Sal at this point?
I don't know if he was ever "good", but he is just awful. ESPN as a whole is maybe the worst station on cable, their web site is essentially paid access only, and their "personalities" are putrid.
