I couldn't care less about the weed, but what's the punishment (in terms of the NFL)?

That's all I care about.

Also, even though weed isn't a big deal at all, I'd say it's 50/50 Patterson took the bullet for his brother.

I just read that the NFL can suspend up to 4 games for a first offense. Reid suspended Buck for a game and cut the other kid when they got nailed a few years back.

In all honesty, this makes DT a much, much bigger priority this off-season...especially if you don't know the league's decision by draft time.

If you could potentially lose him for 1/4 of the season, you have to have a pretty good contingency plan in place.

I'm thinking Rod Coleman and a mid-round pick.

I initially thought the same thing, but have come off that somewhat.

A) I dont see them persuing Coleman.

B) I felt they'd take a DT at some point in the draft anyhow, they place such emphasis on the lines, so maybe this bumps it up a round?

C) They are fond of the June 1st, discard pile DTs to play some snaps and rather than coleman, that's the route Id expect they take if they find out this spring/early summer Patterson will be Suspended for any length of time.

Two league sources said yesterday that they didn't think defensive tackle Mike Patterson would face a suspension from the NFL after being charged with marijuana possession Feb. 16 in Evesham, Camden County. The most likely scenario, according to the sources, is that Patterson will be placed in the substance-abuse program as a first-time offender.

Hopefully he won't be suspended given a clean track record, but the key here is when they find out for certain.

Out of curiosity, why do you think they'll pass on Coleman? I thought they might be interested before this incident, provided he doesn't get absurd money.

Pee King

Asante Samuel could be headed for Philadelphia. I hear the all-pro New England cornerback could get five years and $55 million from the Eagles, but I think once Philly finds out no other team out there is willing to give $10 million a year to a finesse corner who doesn't like contact -- unlike the franchised Marcus Trufant of the Seahawks and Nnamdi Asomugha of the Raiders -- the price tag could slither down a bit.

This is a dangerous, dangerous move if the Eagles do it. I've been a Samuel guy for the last couple of years, because he's a fearless competitor, but his play late last season, particularly when the Patriots couldn't generate a consistent pass-rush on Eli Manning, was poor.

He let David Tyree beat him for a touchdown in the fourth quarter of the Super Bowl, then let a catchable interception slip through his hands on the decisive Giant drive (though it would have been a tough catch), and didn't clobber Tyree when he was fighting for the catch heard 'round the world, though Samuel was only steps away.

F_D- mainly cos of reason 3 I listed.

I think they're earmarking their available F.A. $$$$ for other positions/players, and that they're content with acquiring a guy for the rotation etc, after June 1st cuts, ala Reagor, Kamper Van Bethoven etc....

I could see that, but I didn't think Rod Coleman would generate a lot of interest.

He's a 9 year vet, undersized, production has been sliding for 3 straight years (really dropped off for 2) and he is coming off a season in which he played only 5 games due to injury. I figured he's be a 2 year/$4 million total type of guy who could play nickel for them and be a situational starter, but if he gets more than that I'm probably out anyway.

BTW, does anyone else think that potential deal for Samuel sounds pretty reasonable given the Clements contract last year?

We're talking about 5 seemingly prime years at a rate below the franchise figure annually (assuming the last 2 years are inflated.

TB has Coleman in town I think, for a visit.

Coleman, while not a bigtime F.A., entering the open mkt early (read: able to secure a better contract if healthy) rather than a late scratch like the 6-1 cuts, would seem to eliminate him from the F.O's radar. DT isnt quite the need it once was, so I think it's down there in their list of priorities.
That's why i think the way I do with regards to Coleman and the Birds.

I would absolutely sign Samuel to that deal that "PEE" printed.

I would too, especially since it'll be frontloaded, and provides excellent depth (Sheldon can move back to CB when Lito gets hurt)

I agree 100% boys...I would sign him in a second for that....my question is whether those #'s would be HIGHER or LOWER than Clemens contract last year. IT is so difficult to ascertain the true value of these contracts....

Also, regarding roy williams, Maranelli says he is "Very Confident" that Roy wont be traded.

http://www.mlive.com/lions/index.ssf/2008/02/marinelli_very_confident_that.html

but I am sure everyone has a price....

Marinelli is just doing a terrible job of masking his intentions.

He got tuned up, I'm sure, for publicly saying Roy Williams is available and the word on the street is they haven't even received an offer of a 2nd round pick due to the retard destroying their leverage.

I think Arizona legitimately plans on doing everything they can to keep Fitzgrald, but I also believe that Roy Williams is still firmly on the block and this was simply a move designed to create leverage.

fd,

where did you hear the price being a #2? I wouldn't trade Williams for a #2 either.

There is a lot of talk of Dallas being very interested in him as well, the guy is from Texas...

did you notice in the article, how Maranelli says "We are not trading Roy Williams" and follows it up with "Well nothing is impossible..."

MSLewis- Terry Glenn's done, for starters.

And with Jones apparently openly beaming after McFadden's timed 40s this wknd, If they're goin to do something that involves movin some of their picks- i think it'd be to acquire McFadden and not Roy Williams.
