Actually, I don't even know what the opposite of Reid is.

Can you believe that as much as Reid throws, he's still only had one 1,000 yard receiver?

The Redskins, in their full awfulness, have had at least 2 or 3 over that span.

What kind of "passing guru" can't get a receiver 62.5 yards per game?

You have to remember that 2/5 of that line might not be back in a year or so.

Meant that for Jules.

Oh yeah.....Reid contended with no really good team except for those who kept him from getting to the SB (Rams and transiently the Bucs).

That's my point - even Madden dealt with criticism, but he had the excuse of going against the Steel Curtain. Not that it's an excuse, but you could at least have solace in knowing you got beat by a consistently better team.

The Birds lost to 2 teams that could be deemed as flukes, and a team on the tail end of its (brief) run. Doesn't make the losses better as opposed to losing to the NE dynasty or back-to-back SB champs.

"The problem would be replacing his entire LB corps for his exceptionally good 3-4 defenses."

Once this eventually did happen Dean-o would be in his full glory.

Actually I think Marty-ball is the bizarro Reid, not Cowher.

True. Although The Chin likes to run, his teams were WAY more flexible and balanced in general than either The Gleam Or The Triple Chin.

I just thought it was weird Dean-o wanted to change to the 3-4 in the middle of the season.

Not trying to kill Cowher, but he did have the golden sombrero at home in NFC Championship games.

All I'm saying is for all his success over 14 seasons, he was most known as a guy who couldn't get it done because he was too stubborn in his approach...until he got it done.

I never wanted it done mid-season, but I'm ready for a 3-4.

It's a better defense for the modern NFL and the Eagles have accidentally filled their roster with 3-4 players.

Plus, it's easier to find pass rushers and LBs are cheaper to sign than defensive ends.

I was only kidding, Dean-o never said it, but people kept misreading his posts and thinking that's what he meant. Hilarity ensued

Wouldn't JJ's style be more of a 3-4? The constant blitzing and LBs that could make a play?

I don't buy that. The Eagles lost to 1 team I'd consider a "fluke", in the Carolina Panthers and they still gave the Pats everything they could handle.

They definitely had a tougher road getting to those games, though.

And- I don't know the history of player-coaches (Blanda?), but the Eagles could just plug in Reid at NT and not miss a beat

Tampa in 2002 was a house of fire. They weren't going to be stopped, in hindsight.

They completely dismantled the best team in football that year (the Raiders) who had already blown the Eagles out once that season.

Just got hot at the right time.

And if the new guy suggests he wants to "spread the ball around", I say Bill One Chair gets to choke him with piano wire on live TV.

f-d usually you're pretty much right on, but I gotta say you're wrong here... Spreading the ball around is the best way to play, come on, just look at Brady, he's spreading the ball around and they seem to be doing OK... (I'm only half kidding)

When Reid steps down I have no problem if the new coach keeps #5 to make the transition... Especially if he resigns LJ and brings in a #1 WR like Chad Johnson(using his name because the rumor is he wants out of Cin)or someone that good... Then I don't think the Eagles would need much more than to draft a STUD Tackle to replace Runyan or Thomas OR another Stud RB. I believe McNabb needs a true #1 IMO he deserves it, he's put up incredible numbers with garbage WR's for all but one year...

The Defense is close enough that I think a new Defensive coodinator could keep the solid play going then they need a 3rd DB to replace Kingsford(forget who said it but love the name) James and Dawkins replacement.

Unfortunatley we still have 8 games to suffer through before there is any chance to really start talking abou these type dreams...

Side note I said it a while ago and now see someone just agreed with me, When Reid goes I hope Lurie has the BALLS to go after Garrett, steal his ass from the Cowboys...

Maybe. I'd say it was more about the Bucs D picking off Gannon 17 times.

Tat, Garrett was Jerry's first coaching hire last off-season. I think Jerry will let Wade go and promote Garrett to HC before he lets him go to Philly.

What about Gruden in TPA? He is a players coach and is emotional which this team lacks. He also believes in the need for a friggin top tier WR to get the damn job done and a friggin QB who does more than run his mouth!

I don't see Cowher coming to PHL simply because he is not in to taking it from the fans when the team sucks and we all know how Philly fans love to shower love on their coaches!

Garrett does not have the seasoning yet...

Brad Childress???

Dick Vermiel???

Jaws???

Kornheiser?? PUKE!

All the people here are assuming a new coach would be ALLOWED to sign stud players. Reid may have gotten the job in the first place because of his willingness to fit within the owner's philosophy of managing to the cap. And got promoted to General Manager for the same reason. A stud coach would have to fit into that same philosophy and would have to either report to Andy Reid the General Manager or a new General Manager.

Don't forget the Eagles history of never having an owner organization willing to pay well; It's always been cheap, or at least second class. Lurie continues the tradition which means that you won't get a stud roster until you get a new owner.

By the way, the Steelers were mediocre last year and this year they're doing pretty well. What's the difference? The quarterback is a second year off his injury. I am just saying that when you have an injured quarterback, it permeates the team in odd ways, even making the defense off. So the whole argument for concluding that the problems of this team is coaching could be flawed.

Besides, what makes people so sure that Morningweh isn't calling the shots on offense? Reid was out on Thursday, he had to delegate to somebody.

I like the thread and the conjecture, but I think the whole idea that Reid is the problem or the only problem is flawed.

I don't think people are saying that Reid is the only problem- just the most frustrating one
