Cowher's going to NY. I still believe that. But Coughlin's done a really good job getting the Giants back on track, so it'll be interesting to see how they finish. Since Me-ki Barber's not on the team, they'll finish strong (including beating on the Eagles).

And before we get into it, I don't want to hear about the rationale that Reid should stay because "you don't know who's out there that can do better". Well, who knew anything about Reid before he was hired?

And I won't be surprised if the next HC has his roots in the Bill Walsh way.

Agreed. I want someone new and fresh not the same retread or Walsh disciples. Time to get back to NFC hard nose football. Draft a bruising fullback, get a TE for Kolb to grow with and completely revamp the defense.

Was meant as a joke. I thought about throwing in Dennis Erickson...as a joke. Can't do the (blue).

I WAS serious about Cowher. This team needs an identity that isn't Mormon and some fire. Right now it has neither. That is why Garcia had some modest success, cuz he was more openly competitive. McNabb seems to sulk too much. Trotter did that. Dawk used to do that as well. Even TO did that. YOU WANT SOMEBODY to say give it to me and I'll get it done. Not somebody who has doubts, isn't sure or isn't a take charge type.

Reid's micromanagerial style is too suffocating. It's like a chick that expects you to call her all the time, buy her flowers every other day and tell her how much you miss her to let her know that you actually do care. Suffocating.

And if the new guy suggests he wants to "spread the ball around", I say Bill One Chair gets to choke him with piano wire on live TV.

Whenever an offense gets in trouble, the QB always has their "guy" they can start feeding the ball to get the offense moving and back on track.

McNabb would simply run for his life and pray a defensive back fell down until he had Owens and I think it would benefit Kolb to be given a weapon on the outside EARLY in his career.

I still think the whole "spread it around" philosophy is the most retarded notion in football history. The idea behind it is "since we never feed one guy consistently, they don't know who to take away from us", but in reality "you don't have anyone worth taking away".

Nothing like throwing 15 check downs to Westbrook trying to make up a 4 TD deficit in the 4th quarter and praying he turns them into 50 yard TDs.

"Spreading the ball around" is something you should do when you;re forced to...you shouldn't strive to be average at your outside skill positions.

I think this town would LOVE Cowher.

Note of caution:

While I've said in the past that I wouldn't mind seeing Cowher replace Reid (with several other candidates in mind as well)- I think it is noteworthy to mention one important fact about Cowher's resume.

While on the surface it seems like The Chin would be the perfect replacement because he is the embodiment of the "Anti-Reid" approach- everyone take a breath and remember that Cowher had the benefit of a consistent, superior talent-evaluating front office and scouting department. Which can also be attributed to a top notch ownership group whose track record is even more proven than New England's.

Just a thought.

Agreed - every QB has benefitted (save Brady) from having a go-to guy to help his learning curve. Getting someone in here even like Chad Johnson (yes, I know) would help him out a lot. But because this philosophy as long as Reid's in power is to "keep the opponent guessing" (even though you're guessing which Super Soaker has soapy water in it), Kolb won't be able to get better.

Palmer's a good QB, but having Chad Johnson (in theory, at least) helps.
Bulger has Holt.
Campbell has Moss.
Rivers has Gates.

The list goes on and on, but these guys make something out of nothing, which only helps a QB's confidence.

Instead, we'll see AJ Feeley-type ball that they'll pass off as the system being successful, but will ultimately end in failure.

Has anyone considered for a moment that Reid may walk away and the new coach wants to stick with McNabb and just change the system to include a bigtime WR to make 1 more run for instant success?

Just a thought that struck me.

Bass,

Brady HAS benefitted tremendously from having a go to WR. He hasn't ever scored 33 TD in a season, let alone just over half a season.

Kordell = McNabb lite.

He DID take them to the conference championship game.

Cowher was still relatively early in his career with the Steeler's. I just think his style would suit this organization. Given the Rooney's penchant for penny pinching, he'll fit right in with Lurie's approach. The DIFFERENCE would be that Cowher prefers guys that will kick your teeth in on offense and defense. Not mindless automatons that are Mormons.

seth, i was thinking the same thing...next year when mcnabb is near 100% (legs) he should be a top 8-10 QB, with the right WR you could bump that to top 5. A re-neg. on his contract would be needed and of course a new coach.

realistically, I see Reid and co. continuing on as usual. The crap season will be blamed on Reid's personal problems.

At the risk of getting lit up, I wouldn't mind even seeing some Marty-ball. At least he will run.

FB, I agree with statement that Cowher had a solid front office to deal with (even if they are cheap). It would be interesting to see how he would handle the gold standard.

For those who want Cowher, just remember that up until 2 seasons ago he was simply the bizarro Reid.

He was good almost every year, but couldn't close the deal. He had a different way of getting the job done, but he was just as stubborn in his approach of running the ball 55% of the time as Reid is with his 70% pass. Both of those philosophies were failures until he finally got one after about 12 years in Pittsburgh.

I'd like a guy who (gasp) builds a balanced offense that can attack an opponents weaknesses rather than running 40 times per game into 9 man fronts or passing 50 times per game into dime and quarter defenses.

Jules, meant Brady BEFORE he got Moss. I was just using him as an exception of he was good before he finally got a go-to guy, and now he's practically unstoppable.

Which means he's no longer an exception, so the point stands.

In Cowher's defense, some of his years have been going up against the Pats' dynasty and the Broncos when they finally got good. If anything, the 3 NFC title losses wouldn't sting as much if they were against teams that were consistently dominant.

Finally got good enough to win it all, I mean.

And if McNabb is staying, then Reid will most undoubtedly stay, especially if he's assured a healthy McNabb will give him one more shot to prove his naysayers wrong about his system. Not about winning a Super Bowl, mind you.

Denver, SD, NE, Baltimore were all serious contenders for most of Cowher's years. Even the Titans were during the middle of his tenure. He went to two SBs, won one.

He's not perfect, but I think it would be a nice change. Particularly given the behemoths on the OL, he could really have a strong running game to start his tenure. The problem would be replacing his entire LB corps for his exceptionally good 3-4 defenses.

Oh yeah.....Reid contended with no really good team except for those who kept him from getting to the SB (Rams and transiently the Bucs).
