Geez, pyrite and Occam's Razor cited in the same day. I didn't realize 700level actually was a double entendre for IQ score. Guess I'll have to dust off that Mensa card.

In today's washington Post Wilbon says...

"Anybody who doubts McNabb needs only to walk around one of the upper-concourse areas of Lincoln Financial Field late in a game when, as several white friends have told me, the frequent use of the word "nigger" preceding McNabb's name during a losing performance is so casual it sickens them."

Now, I've been a season ticket holder since 2000 (and went to games in 99, mcnabb's rookie year) and have NEVER heard any racist remarks toward McNabb or any player. I've never heard it in the stadium, in the parking lot, or even the bathroom. Am I just lucky? Have any of you season ticket holders heard it? This seems like just more Philly bashing by Wilbon, maybe I'm wrong, maybe it does go on and I'm just oblivious, but I can attest that I've NEVER heard anything like that. (I've heard a book's worth of other stuff, but nothting ever racist)

Bullshit FB- when's the last game Youve attended?

You sit and call everyone down there mullet heads on a message board, yet you've never even met ONE person from this site - many of whom attend the games regularly.
WTF?

You cant just say its accurrate.
I for one have NEVER EVER ONCE heard him called ANYTHING EVER except stupid, or slow this yr. and that was me- he looked slow gettin caught from behind.

At the Vet? Durin Cunningham's time here?
Absolutely heard it plenty. PLENTY.

But thats what McNabb doesnt get- Cunningham paved the way for McNabb and it's NO LONGER like that- either due to the hike in price of the linc, or Id prefer to think that as a society we've evolved somewhat, whatever the reason, you DO NOT hear the "N" word in the linc - especially not "So many times it sickens".

Wilbon's a bloated hog who's piling on and absolutely fabricatin stuff.

I've heard the word "nigger" directed at players at the Vet & the Linc.

And it wasn't directed at McNabb only.

Remember Randall being called a stupid fkn "coon" on several occasions.

Remember Jaws being a called a dumb fkn "pollock".

And Norman Braman & Lurie being called a "cheap fkn Jew bastards".

Philly is an equal oppurtunity offender.

Yes. I have heard it thrown around alot at the Vet and some at the Linc as well. It was more prevasive in the Vet but for those who don't think it doesn't happen at the polished new Linc they are mistaken. For anyone who knows me, they know I don't throw around the race card. But there have been a few instances where I heard the "N" word uttered and shot the person who said it a glance and received a "Sorry bro".

Is it a barrage from every seat and every level? No, but it does happen.

Seth- you are correct- my last game was the Buddy pulls Randall game vs. the Redskins.

That's why I quit going to the games- got tired of the idiotic chuckleheads yelling things- plus I enjoy watching at home in my sockfeet with (cheap) beer and remote at fingertips and comfy bathroom a mere moment away. But I thank you for the apology and the fact that you talked yourself down.

When I have sat with YOU at the Linc I have not heard the "N" word uttered. I have heard a ton of other expletives thrown around. I did hear it at the Linc opener when they played Tampa Bay and subsequently went 0-2. I think I was sitting with Tattoo at that game.

Race has always been an issue with McNabb. It first came up during his rookie contract negotiations. I vaguely remember his agent accusing the Eagles organization of being racist. It was a ridiculous accusation considering the Eagles had Randall Cunningham and Rodney Peete QB the team for many years.

McNabb brought this on himself even further by proclaiming his resistance to the stereotype of the black QB to the media. Dumbass thing to do all the way around because he earned his fat extension with his legs as much as his arm and brain. If it's an inherent strength in your game why would you intentionally minimize it?

If it was an agenda he wanted to push, he should have kept that to himself. Eagles fans don't care how you win, as long as you win.

Rush Limbaugh didn't help matters, but come on... did what he say really carry that much weight? Everybody knows Limbaugh is a blowhard. I think the only reason Limbaugh's comments and Mondesire's comments stick with McNabb is because he lets them. He can't let anything go, he can't move on.

McNabb is still hemming and hawing about the media and fan's perception of black QBs in the NFL...meanwhile the first ever black head coach won the Super Bowl by defeating another black head coach.

McNabb... wake up, shut up, and look around you. Progress is being made while you sit there and sulk.

I go to a game or two a year and the only time I ever heard the N-bomb dropped at either the Linc or the Vet was directed at Ja Rule during the halftime show against the Bucs for the NFCC. God, you couldn't even hear the act through all the boos, not that I wanted to.

Has it been noted in this space yet that both Vince Young- the very name McNabb invoked durin his PC the other day as a fine example of scrutinization of the black QB- and Campbell, the Skins AA QB who just BEAT the Birds on MNF- both of em have left McNabby out to dry on this one- intentionally REFUTING ANY SUCH CLAIMS OF PREJUDICE since they've entered the pros?

Yipes.

I especially liked VY's comment, basically saying that if you can't take the criticism, find something else to do.

And I'm sure he's heard it a ton more than McNabb.

Not defending McNabb's comments, but a guy who has been the darling of the NFL (with about 12 career starts) and a QB with even fewer starts in DC (where most fans assume he'll be better than Manning, barring injuries) don't have a great deal of perspective on the issue.

Even with that said, I think Vince may not be fully aware of all the criticism he got leading up to the draft. There was a lot of wonderlic talk. A lot of "athlete, not QB" talk. A lot of "not NFL ready...a long term project athlete with potentially the highest ceiling".

Yet Jay Cutler, who never won, isn't as naturally gifted, and isn't as good of a leader did not have a single negative review.

Now, where they were drafted shows you a lot. There is no such thing as racism in the NFL, but I do agree that there are some double-standards in some pockets of the media.

I still think McNabb overblows it and needs to stop because even if he's right, it doesn't matter. We're talking about the media here...

Eh...

Here's what I'll say: Go talk to Vince Young when O'Reilly gets a job on NFL Countdown and says Young is overrated because the liberal media wants to project black QBs as successful to meet their own agenda and Tennesee's local NAACP calls him an uncle tom and a fraud when his legs start to give out as he ages.

Could Young's comments eventually bite him in the rear end? Possibly.

Has McNabb taken a lot of crap? Definitely.

But I'm sure Young has heard all the comments about the Wonderlic, the running, among other things. I'm basing my comment on what VY's had to deal with in college compared to McNabb. But I'm pretty sure he knows the "different" criticism that he gets, sure.

But here's the bottom line - throughout everything else, especially since McNabb feels a certain way about how things are and especially how they're projected in the media, you would think that he'd be a lot more careful about what he says, even if it's someone like James Brown who brings the question up (which is something that can't be understated).

Vince Young said it was an issue in college, but not in the NFL. The difference being he was in in college for 5 years and the NFL for 1 (IMO).

I'm saying that if you want a legitimate perspective, go talk to guys like Steve McNair and Daunte Culpepper. Those are two guys who have been around, seen high highs, low lows, and played in the same general era as McNabb.

I'm not saying McNabb's right for opening his trap and I'm not saying it's a big deal, but those two guys haven't been around long enough to know what the hell they're talking about.

Dumb as he is, these issues are deliberate. He thinks future generations of African American QBs will thank him for paving the way for them.

They've seen the heat he's catching and they want no part of that- even if secretly they may agree on some level or other.

Dean-o,

I disagree. I value your opinion but I thought the same thing when I say the two greenest guys you can get in regard to this issue speaking out. Ask Steve McNair how he feels on this? Young might being feeling all loved and oblivious to the criticism right now. But he hasnt been in the Tennesee long enough to really have any hardship yet. Same with Campbell. Personally I found it odd of all the African American qb's past and present they could talk to, they chose those two as the refuting sound bytes. JMO.
