Lastly, and most importantly is, does McNabb really want to be in Philly any longer? Does he want out?

Probably. When speaking to James Brown about it, McNabb acknowledged that the majority of fans in the city have embraced him, which I think is true. I don't think he WANTS to leave, but the organization may leave him no other choice.

It's kinda funny, because I think McNabb saw this coming and got his own PR person to combat it, because he sees how the Eagles are going to try to turn public perception against him, to make the decision that much more palpable for the fans. More talk shows are going to talk about him leaving, Asskiss will probably bury his jersey a la TO, and it's going to get really ugly.

And if they do get something for him... what the hell is he gonna be worth after this season?

My guess is a conditional pick from the Bears. Something that could be anywhere from a 3rd to a first depending on how he or the team performs.

McNabb on the Bears would be sick.

You think the FO would be dumb enough to deal him to a potential NFC rival?

I guess you get what you can for him from whomever.

Why not, Johnson? If they feel he is as crappy as Spuds claims he is...then why not?

If anything, the evil genius of offloading a crappy/expensive player onto a rival along with getting a compensatory precious would make Lurie/Reid cream their respective drawers.

According to GCobb this morning the main reason is not coming back is because the players and coaches don't like him.

They feel he is never critized or not critized enough and that he has been pamerperd

Teammates Feel McNabb Is Above Scrutiny
Written by Garry Cobb
Wednesday, 19 September 2007
According to an Eagles teammate, there’s a perception among team members that Donovan McNabb doesn’t receive the same level of scrutiny from the coaching staff as the rest of the team.

I’m told that the perception that McNabb isn’t called on the carpet for bad plays in the same way his teammates are, has created a separation between Donovan and his teammates. He’s looked on as being the teacher’s pet. It’s the reason McNabb didn’t receive support from his teammates during the Terrell Owens saga.

The Owens saga pulled the covers off the relationship between McNabb and his teammates. I have never seen a situation where a teammate was attacked by another teammate the way McNabb was by Owens, and not one of the other teammates steps up to defend that criticized teammate. It gave us a look into the strained relationship between McNabb and his teammates.

I’m told that there is a dysfunctional relationship between Donovan McNabb and the Eagles coaching staff, especially Andy Reid. I’m told that Eagles players don’t feel Andy corrects McNabb’s errors. He chooses to send his subordinates to the quarterback when he needs to be reeled in. As you know Donovan loves kidding around and I understand that he goes too far with it sometimes in practice. When this happens, I’m told that Reid will send assistant coaches to McNabb to tell him to shut down the clowning during practice. This perception amongst the team is the reason Eagles players got on board with enthusiasm when Jeff Garcia was at the helm. They liked the fact that Garcia was not above the correction of the coaches.

I'm disturbed by this because a coach isn't doing his job if he doesn't correct a player when the player makes a mistake. McNabb's teammates don't feel Andy corrects him like he corrects the rest of the team. This has spread to off the field situations where McNabb has a strained relationship with his teammates. This is the reason for all the "McNabb has lost the locker room" comments of a year ago.

I don’t see any way Donovan McNabb will return to quarterback for the Eagles in the 2008 season. It’s very apparent that rookie Kevin Kolb will take over as the Birds starting quarterback. I’m told the Eagles want to rid themselves of McNabb because the team chemistry is off when he’s running things.

Andy Reid has created a troubling situation by refusing to correct McNabb’s mistakes and created resentment amongst his teammates. Players are tired of being called on the carpet when they make mistakes, then sit by and watch Eagles coaches refusing the correct McNabb.

According to GCobb this morning the main reason is not coming back is because the players and coaches don’t seem to rally around him anymore.

They feel he is never crictized or not crictized enough and that he has been pampered compared to other players.

He also gave examples when TO was here how no one stood up for McNabb. Also how the team responded and rallied around Garcia last year after Super 5 went down.

According to his sources he has heard people within the Eagles organization say McNabb will not be back next year.

"A source within the Eagles organization..."

All this is coming together MUCH too neatly.

Oh, and if McNabb doesn't go to the Bears (and how badly the Bears beat the Birds might control whether or not he goes there), he'll probably end up in Baltimore.

I love that the coaches don't like him because they choose not to criticize him and the players don't like him because the coaches choose not to criticize him.

McNabb got a raw deal here...all the way. What's done is done and the marriage is over, but the coaches botched this one from jump street.

Don't forget that the old crew of Vincent, Hugh, Trot, Duce, Dawk, etc. all loved McNabb and it's the new crew of crybabies raised on T.O.'s nonsense that complain about McNabb's treatment.

Eveyone here know the respect I have for Troy Vincent as a player and leader on the Eagles. I think he was by far the greatest leader they had on this team and I think he's a hall of fame CB. I also think that the fact that he was interviewed on HBO last night as a McNabb advocate speaks volumes.

All of this stuff is a result of the T.O. poisoning of 2005.

That's the coach's fault, not McNabb's.

I said it before- Reid's a soft, piece of crap- in football, attitude is EVERYTHING. People just don't get fired up for a coach who doesn't curse or raise his voice every now and then

That nice guy persona of Dungy is a sham.

I heard that he used to be a Marine Sniper with over 150 kills in the Vietnam War!

Besides, Tony's got "slightly more" to work with in Indy.

The media hammered him today in his press conference and he did not take it well, essentially walking out.

They are essentially taking his statements as "The media is racist", so they seem intent on destroying him for this.

Well.....he says something, and they react accordingly to prove his point.

It's going to be a long year. At this rate, McNabb would probably do best to just sit out and get fully healed, and move on.

It's sad that it's come to this, when in reality the coaching staff needs to go with him.

Maybe in his mind. I think the way they are taking this is "You called racist, so answer for it. What we have we done to you? Prove it."

Reid has never called out any players publically...so I guess the article is referring to McNabb being corrected in practice/privately. One thing the article DOESN'T talk about is Reid's inability to manage his players. If McNabb can't handle criticism and TO can't handle anything but adulation....and Reid can't handle them well...then its on Reid.

It is becoming clear that this is too much for McNabb to handle. Clearly, the number of people jumping on the Teak on Tommy Tucker bandwagon (with McNabb as Tommy) includes almost everyone.

Fred, I've said this for several years that a great head coach has to be an amateur psychologist. People say you have to treat everyone equally...that is partly true. Hold them accountable equally. Some people respond better to people getting in their face, some respond better to quiet firm direction and some a variation thereof.

Reid's intransigence in playcalling and his desire for Mormon automatons paints a far clearer picture to me than anything about McNabb.

I'm a huge McNabb detractor, but this isn't really him. No quality WRs for 7 of his 9 years. I mean Torrance Small and Na effin' Brown for crying out loud. Fd counted it...most of us noticed it...the WRs couldn't get off press coverage again. How many times has that happened? Plenty. Reggie Brown has no excuse. Avant did occassionally. Curtis and G Lew almost never.

A week and a thousand talking head commentaries later, I honestly still can't decide whether Donovan is:

(A) Brilliant, in that he saw the light at the end of the tunnel when Kolb was drafted, and knew a sit-down on this topic would generate a firestorm that could let him ride outta Philly with his head held high; or
(B) Incredibly effin' stupid for walking straight into this minefield ... for the second time in 2-1/2 years! ... and then acting shocked when the explosions start going off all around him.

I'd like to believe (A). Really, I would. But anyone who's familiar with Occam's Razor knows what's more likely ...
