The best part about Hines Ward is that he actually played in a tie in 2002
You'd think his Korean side would be better with memory and numbers.

I just think this overtime nonsense is stupid.
It seems like the McNabb criticism is just never on point.
In this specific example, McNabb barely hit the field of play with his passes on Sunday, threw 3 picks, and fumbles inside his own 10 yard line...we're talking about his knowledge of the NFL rule book.

Given their success in similar situations this year, i think he had no choice but to punt and play for 10-5-1. If he was even at midfield, I'd go for it. At your own 20? Too much of a gamble.
Need I remind you that they were playing the CINCINNATI BENGALS?
A tie is a loss in that situation. They have to go for it there - the decision to punt makes a tie the BEST case scenario. 4th and 1 is not a low percentage play.

I have a better chance of scoring with Mariah Carey than this team on 4th and short.

I disagree completely...couldn't disagree more.
They needed to win that game, but this is situational football. They've shown me nothing to make me believe they had a good chance at converting that. They miss it and the game is over.
They needed the win, but you don't go for it there.

The Switzer play was in regulation, not OT.
When has McNabb NOT made a 1st on a QB sneak?
He showed no confidence in his team.
You play to win the game!

First question in McNabb's press conference today:
"Do you regret not knowing the overtime rule?"
Answer: "No. A lot of people around the league didn't know that rule and they all know it now, so I guess I'm a trendsetter" (paraphrased).
THAT'S the kind of shit that drives me crazy about him.

In his opening on the radio today, Colin Cowherd spent an hour "defending" McNabb in the backhanded way that he does things.
Anyway, he mentioned this blog that breaks down McNabb in the clutch nicely: Yo, click it

Colin is a fraud. I lost all respect for him when he went on his daily "Favre sucks, Vick rules" rants 4 years back and acted like he spearheaed the "Vick sucks" movement when he went to jail.

If Bette Midler was playing QB for the Eagles, she'd be able to deliver Bruce's lines the way they were written!

I used to think the same, especially around the time of the Birds/Pats SB. But I've been listening to him daily for the past few years and now, I've got to disagree with the fraud statement.
He cuts to the chase and is right on philosophically about a lot of things and he is usually very, very consistent in his opinions, though he does have a tendency to paint with broad strokes (like the McNabb thing this morning). But more than once, he has admitted being off-target about something and explains his rationale for his original thought vs. his revised opinion. it's refreshing because he doesn't have the huge ego of so many broadcasters/talk show hosts - he seems to be real about things. But national media are always going to piss off locals with their opinions b/c they don't know the minutiae.
By the way, a must-read for any football fan is Tuesday Morning Quarterback by Gregg Easterbrook on espn.com. The dude is spot on about a lot of things.

He was such a cock about Vick that it turned me off to him forever. He would spend 30- 45 minutes each day saying anyone who didn't like Vick didn't know anything about football.
"Vick is a winner"
Then, when it became blantantly obvious how wrong he was, he started bashing Vick. When people called him on it, his explanation was "I was right when I defended Vick before because he was a winner. Now he's not, and I'm right again"
It was just annoying. That and the fact that he looks like a rat sealed it.

When Da Hoff suggested that McNabb go on Letterman and make a joke about this, I don't think "I'm a trendsetter" is what he had in mind.

This was an interesting read, but I don't think the guy takes into account all of the wide receiver drops.
Nevertheless, it's not a pretty picture for McNabb in the clutch. He really is a different QB post-Super Bowl.

I never could reconcile the media's perception of him as smart/thoughtful with the fact that the guy scored a freakin' 14 on the Wonderlic (and in fact it's been reported elsewhere that he scored a 12).
14 might not seem so bad by NFL standards but any college-educated adult should be well into the twenties. DM is on the fringes of Vick territory here. linc

I logged onto this website for one reason and one reason only - to tell the entire City of Philadelphia that they should hang their heads in shame for the manner in which they have treated McNabb. Over confusion about a rule that half the team, and half the league for that matter, also confessed to not knowing, the entire city wants his head on a platter. Here's a heads up - IT played NO PART in the outcome of this game! Sure, I realize that this is just the latest in a long series of frustrations stretching over a number of years but guess what? ITS NOT ALL HIS FAULT! Be it a cliche or not, the guy CAN NOT do it alone! I can see this, and defend the poor guy and I am a Steeler fan!! However, my son, born in South Jersey, has always adored his "hometown" teams despite the harassment he endures for being an Eagles fan in Steeler country. For this reason, I have always cheered the Eagles, Phillies and Flyers also, and the recent World Series Victory Team was embraced by the entire country, myself included, with tears in my eyes that my son finally got to cheer for a champion. How selfish can you all possibly be???? All this because McNabb as never won a Super Bowl!! Well here's a heads up, neither have a lot of record breaking star quarter backs, the two that leap immediately to mind our Dan Marino and Fran Tarkenton. McNabb is a great quarterback - lets face who, really, has he had to throw to of star caliber other than T.O.? Who, BTW, in spite of his obvious role in helping to pave the way for a trip to the Super Bowl, caused the team much more lingering harm with his misguided arrogance and disdain for common courtesy while McNabb, as usual, took the higher road. If McNabb has any sense at all, he will walk out of the city with his head held high, hook up with another team that has a star receiver and a decent defense and running game and he will be wearing a Super Bowl ring. And I hope when he does it, he will say "KISS MY...." to all you ingrates. Can you say Randall Cunningham, MVP, Minnesota Vikings?? (okay, they didn't win the big one either, but I suppose that Gary Anderson's NOT a perfect season Choke was also Cunningham's fault!!!) But McNabb's got way too much class to rub it in your faces, if and when that ever does happen, please, though what sweet revenge it would be!! After this ddisgusting display of ridiculous blame game and scapegoating, the city of Philadelphia does not deserve to win another championship for another thirty or so years...even if it will break my son's heart to have that happen...well, I've said my piece, tear me apart if you want to...have at it...
