Wanted to know if anyone caught his interviews on 610 and 950 this morning, and what was spoken.

Caught some of the 950 one, and he was quite honest, especially when talking about input for getting FAs in here.

Didn't hear either of them...too busy right now.

That said, I assume I agree with everything he said and I also assume I loved whatever new hair and beard choices he's made this off season.

The recap from the Inquirer:

McNabb talks draft-booing and Mom with WIP’s morning lair

By Peter Mucha
Inquirer Staff Writer

Eight years ago, a rabble of Eagles fans, shepherded to the NFL Draft by WIP's Angelo Cataldi, lustily booed the Eagles' top pick.

That pick was Donovan McNabb.

This morning, McNabb finally talked with Cataldi in-studio, explaining his feelings about that day, and tackling a bunch of other issues.

Over the years, Cataldi has apologized many times, even as callers and hosts on the sports-talk radio station have griped about McNabb's seemingly lingering resentment over that day, especially because national sports commentators keep replaying the clip as an infamously embarrassing moment for the city.

"It's all Mayor Ed Rendell's fault," Cataldi quipped, saying Rendell was the one who urged him to lobby for Ricky Williams, a top running back whose drug habits rushed him out of the NFL.

Cataldi asked if McNabb's appearance this morning was part of a conscious campaign to be more accessible to fans and the media.

McNabb said yes, to help counteract how athletes here are often misunderstood.

"It was upsetting for me to have a guy like Allen Iverson, who while he was here everybody seemed to talk bad about him. But nobody seemed to spend time to talk with him and get to know him. But after he left, it seems like he has received more praise for what he has done here."

McNabb expressed no hard feelings toward the city, though. "I love the city of Philadelphia," he said. I've been here for eight years, going on nine, and I look for great things to happen here throughout my career."

Other highlights:

On whether the Eagles should run more: "I'm not the one calling the plays. Andy's calling the plays, Marty's calling the plays," he said, referring to head coach Andy Reid and offensive coordinator Marty Morningweig. "But I think one thing you have to focus on, last year we were the No. 1 offense in the league. I believe we averaged over 24, or 27, points a game."

On whether he should run more: "You can't live that devilish style at the quarterback position. You have to learn the offense, and you have to be comfortable in the offense, and this offense, it's about timing." Because of his "great offensive line," he said, he rarely needs to run, because he has more time to find receivers. "It was nothing that I was making a conscious effort of not running. I just try to get the ball to the open guys and let them do the work."

On his mother's mixed feelings about the Birds winning while Jeff Garcia quarterbacked: "That wasn't me speaking, that was my Mom speaking. ... We're looking too deep into something that is not even there. ... It was nothing that I told her to shut up."

On whether he was upset that team, enforcing a club rule about injured players, didn't let him travel to the New Orleans playoff game: "No!" he said emphatically. "It's a rule that I've known ever since I've been here."

On whether he's injury prone, he said he saw his string of injuries as "one fluke thing after another." He said he expects to be back to full mobility this season.

On whether he's been treated fairly by fans and the media here: "I think I have. For the percentage of people who may voice their opinion or feel a certain way about you, it really doesn't speak for the higher percentage of people who respect you and support the way you do things."

Former teammate Hugh Douglas interjected: "How do you really feel about Angelo Cataldi?"

McNabb, in a comically animated voice, said, "I'm pissed off now!"

Lots of laughter.

"I was trying to get him to go there," said cohost Rhea Hughes.

After the show, Cataldi, interviewed by phone, said: "It seems like we'll be dining together, me and Donovan. It's the beginning of a long and very warm relationship."

Clearly, Cataldi was kidding, since he'd just said at end of the show he thinks McNabb still despises him.

"Oh, without a doubt," the ex-Inquirer sportswriter said. "I wouldn't have it any other way."

If you're chummy with every athlete, "you're probably kissing their (butt) too much," he said.

Honestly.

Is there a radio station that rehashes the same tired subject matter in a more mind numbing boring fashion than WIP?

You can not listen to WIP for years and the next time you urn it on they will be talking about the same tried crap.

The scary part is that they actually have listeners.

ok, i'm a homer when it comes to McNabb, but who is he bullshittin when he says he wasn't mad about the team plane?

as long as he's re-creating his image and has "issues" (according to the FO), maybe he should be even more real and call some shit what it is.....uh, which is shit, in case you were wondering. (in case you weren't wondering, well then by all means, carry on!

To be fair, it's a lot easier to openly root for your team to lose when done in the privacy of one's gigantic living room.

Mcnabb is Peter King's 12 ranked QB in the league...who is ahead of him you ask?

Romo, Young, Bulger, Kitna, cutler, rivers, hasselback, brees, palmer...

wow

That's typical of King. He's always had a thinly-veiled disdain for McNabb. Always. I think F-D has mentioned this in threads past, as have I. He's never rated him higher than 8th on his annual list. He's like Madden in the sense that he loves front-runners (Manning and Brady) and is completely myopic when it comes to rating those who have achieved less (Brees, Palmer, Bulger) higher than McNabb.

For cripes sake, he's got Jon freaking Kitna rated hired than #5 on the 2007 list, which he defends by saying that he is only basing on predicted performance for 2007.

Add Hasselbeck (and Vince Young and Tony Romo and Jay Cutler) to that list of thoe who've done less than #5. But all of those guys, according to King, will have a better season than McNabb.

Also, King goes on to note in his column that Jeff Garcia, whom he caught up with at McNabb's charity golf tournament of all places, is still sore the Eagles didn't pursue him as a FA this offseason. And King echoes those sentiments.

That's all you need to know about Peter King's view on McNabb.

On one hand, I don't think that King's position on McNabb is all that unreasonable. He says that the reason that he rated McNabb at #12 is that he thinks that McNabb won't play a full season. He also says that his ratings are based on how productive he thinks that the QBs will be in 2007. He is not saying that he thinks McNabb is the 12th best QB in the league. He's saying that he thinks McNabb won't play all 19 games and so he won't be as productive as some other QBs who will. This is not an absurd position.

On the other hand, he does state that he is making these rankings based on how the QBs will perform in 2007 and then proceeds to justify his #1 rating of P.M. entirely based on 2006. That's just stupid.

Even if that's true (and based on the lovefest for some of the other QBs in there, it's not, but whatever), King's thinly-veiled dislike of McNabb is horrendous, especially when he tries to justify it.

"• It's not that I don't like Donovan McNabb. I do. I just don't trust him to stay healthy. I rank the Eagles' QB 12th because I have no confidence that McNabb, at 30 and having missed a combined 13 games over the last two years, will be upright in December."

I just want to know where exactly has he been singing McNabb's praises.

Exactly, Bass and Roach. I seem to recall a column King wrote awhile back, during the SB season, or post SB season, when McNabb was tearing it up and his stats and performance were undeniable. And King begrdugingly wrote something like: I've long been a critic of McNabb but he has arrived (or something along those lines).

He just doesn't care for the guy as a QB, isn't that obvious.

I do not think he would have any problem with admitting he was wrong if McNabb does indeed stay healthy and has a great season. He is a lot more down to Earth compared to a lot of the smucks in the media aka ScreaminA and most of the other tools on ESPN. I have no problem with his analysis because IMO he is right on the mark.

That's the problem right there. A bag of kitchen trash doesn't smell so bad when you're on the edge of a landfill.

Admitting you're wrong after the fact is one thing, but King's disdain for McNabb has been evident even in years where McNabb was clearly top 3 or 4. He doesn't like him and it reflects in his columns.

Hey, I'm still not feeling McNabb on a personal level, but I'll be a crackhead if I view him as possibly having the 12th most productive year in football, especially when he's comparing guys who either haven't won a playoff game or have barely been in the league for 2 years.

Hater.

King's a certified McNabb hater. Always has been, always will. If McNabb wins a Super Bowl, King will say "he proved me wrong" but that's as far as he'll ever go.

Here's King's ranking of all the QBs in the NFL from February 6th 2007. Keep in mind this is after the season and only 4 months ago...

1. Peyton Manning. 2. Tom Brady. 3. Drew Brees. 4. Carson Palmer. 5. Marc Bulger. 6. Matt Hasselbeck. 7. Philip Rivers. 8. Donovan McNabb. 9. Tony Romo. 10. Brett Favre. 11. Ben Roethlisberger. 12. Matt Leinart. 13. Vince Young. 14. Chad Pennington. 15. Jay Cutler.

Somehow McNabb dropped 3 spots and was lapped by Jay Cutler in the past 4 months. At that time McNabb was just beginning his rehab and on crutches with uncertainty at the WR position. Now they added Curtis (which is not a bad pickup) and McNabb is a about 6 weeks ahead on his rehab, having practiced for 3 straight days at mini-camp. How did Cutler pass him again?

Vince Young also lapped him. the same Vince Young who got zero help in FA and the draft...in fact he lost his best weapon on offense.

He also chose to show the "combined 2005 and 2006" stats for all the QBs in this most recent ranking. Call me a conspiracy theorist, but why show '05 and '06 stats for the players when he said his ranking is for "2007 only"? McNabb was hurt in '05 and '06...

It could just be a coincidence, but I doubt it. He waned to get McNabb's short stats and paltry 9 win total up there. Why show 2005 and 2006 stats when ranking the QBs for the 207 season...knowing 4 of the opt 11 and 8 of the top 20 QB were first year starters in 2006?

It's a hater's clinic!

Here's the list from August of 2004. The names around him change, but McNabb stays the same...right on the outskirts of the top 10.

You'd think he might climb a few spots but while all the other players around him fail, new players come in who just happen top be better than him every year.

1. Peyton Manning
2. Tom Brady
3. Steve McNair
4. Brett Favre
5. Trent Green
6. Jake Plummer
7. Daunte Culpepper
8. Chad Pennington
9. Donovan McNabb
10. Mike Vick
11. Jeff Garcia
12. Matt Hasselbeck
13. Marc Bulger
14. Brad Johnson
15. Mark Brunell

Oh yeah! Thanks for the reminder.

Anyone who has always considered Jake Plummer a top QB should be taken as seriously as WIP.

It boggles my mind at how much this nimrod has dissed McNabb, but said in the same breath that on a contender, Jake Plummer could be a very good QB. Now he's in the lap of the guy who replaced his top guy.

He named Plummer his pre-season MVP TWICE!

I think he's really close with Shanahan, which explains the Plummer fancy and Cutler boning.
