Yes, he was IR'd, but only after he sprained his knee the week before

Panthers page on nfl.com lists him as being ir'ed.

Yep, IR'ed against the Cowboys with a sprained MCL, though I don't doubt the Corey Simon Theory.

It's hard to believe that, right before a contract year no less, Peppers would go from having 10+ sacks every year to being handled one-on-one. Had he continued his "pace", he probably would've finished with <50 tackles for the year, and maybe 4 sacks total, a far cry from what he's shown over the years.

I've been a Trufant fan for a while and would like him here, not exactly Bobby Taylor's size but always gave me that impression...

So unless they go and trade Lito to Detroit for Williams then go after Tru or Samuels, I don't think they go after a CB in FA. to me this seems like they have their eye on someone else at another position and are floating these "rumors" to fake others out... much the way they went after Kearse and TO for that matter, if memory serves me correctly when the Eagles have gone after "names" they don't let people know they are looking in that direction, then BAM they sign someone...

so Danny boy is supposedly putting an offer together to try to get Chad Johnson. I'd imagine it would have all of their first round picks from now to eternity in it.

Ah....Tatt, your boundless optimism.

The Birds only went after names ONCE. An anomaly in the Banner/Lurie matrix. Let's not confuse the manner with which they conducted their "out of character" selves on that occassion, for, if history is any indicator, we will probably sign Marty Booker and resign Holcumb and Mahe. The FO will trot out Spuds to polish the turd. Spuds will then explain that said squishy, stinky brown stuff is indeed Jell-O pudding. Bill Cosby will be too disgusted to even file a suit.

Interesting debate. I'm not half as high on Lito Sheppard as most people appear to be, and I'm much higher on Samuel. I have seen nothing to suggest that he's a fluke or a system player. I'm not necessarily saying that the expenditure is a prudent use of cap space relative to other positions, but I'd prefer it to a futile attempt to turn someone else's trash into a stud DE. You simply won't find quality DEs on the market without question marks, and we know how that usually ends up (Kearse, Howard, etc). Considering their penchant for finding good DEs late in the draft (Cole, Burgess, Brock), I would think that they'd be better poised to look there. In fact, the only misses on DEs from the FO that I can recall are the McDougle/Green 1-2 punch in 2003.

Johnson mentioned it earlier, but wouldn't it be great to have an idea of what Victor Abiamiri is?

In an 8-8 season, was it really that important to make sure Juqua Thomas got 50 snaps per game? Now you can spend all off-season wondering if you need to draft another DE high or need to acquire one in the market after drafting on in the second round a year ago.

It really boggles the fucking mind.

Did it ever go through anyone's mind that Andy Reid should just trade away every first and early-to-mid-second round pick he gets?

No, because if they happen to stumble across a player in the 4th-5th rounds, you'll never hear the end of it.

At least with most 2nd round crash-and-burnouts he picks, it keeps Spuds and Co. from yelling too loud.

from http://www.fannation.com/truth_and_rumors/nfl?page=2

Quarterback Trent Green and wide receiver Marty Booker were among nine players released Monday by the Dolphins in what's expected to be the beginning of a massive offseason roster overhaul. The Dolphins could address the receiver position by pursuing free agents such as Chicago's Bernard Berrian, Arizona's Bryant Johnson, Houston's Andre Davis and Oakland's Jerry Porter. Alabi's release leaves very little depth behind starting left tackle Vernon Carey. A likely target could be Dallas tackle Flozell Adams, an unrestricted free agent. Adams, 31, has been selected to four Pro Bowls and could be lured to Miami because of his relationship with Sparano, his former line coach in Dallas.

Granted this isn't really news BUT just curious anyone know anything about Bryant Johnson, I remember when he wass drafted and thinking he might be a keeper but haven't heard much since, just curious if he is in a bad spot behind Boldin and Fitz(who I heard while watching the ProBowl has been offered a new deal from AZ)

Also any interest in Porter???

I for one, would be curious about Johnson moreso than Porter. But at this point, could you really afford to rule ANYBODY out?
Bring 'em in, pad up and let's see whatcha got

Bengals | Lewis says team will not trade C. Johnson
Mark Curnutte, of The Cincinnati Enquirer, reports Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis said Wednesday, Feb. 13, that the team will not trade WR Chad Johnson. "No. 1, the guy has a contract through 2011, OK," Lewis said. "No one within the Bengals organization has ever spoken of or ever uttered anything about trading Chad Johnson, nor will he be traded." The Bengals would take an $8.03 million salary cap hit if they traded or released Johnson before June 1.

ESPN is reporting that Tuna is cutting Zach Thomas. If you can get him on the cheap he might be a good guy to bring in to fill in and mentor the young guys for a one year deal.

Maybe, but I like the backers they have. Also, with Thomas being a good team guy by all accounts, you have to assume they are cutting him because he's finished.

On the linebacker note, the panthers released Dan Morgan because he's got Lindros/Gagne disease.

He's a huge risk, but if he still wants to play he'd be interesting as a nickel backer.

Theoretically takes fewer hits and might be able to last for a whole season?

With Lito's propensity to get hurt from breathing in too deeply, he'd be starting, which would make him susceptible to more hits. They still need to address that spot with more than one player.

And I've got no interest in Thomas. He's up there in years and he's not good enough to give you something different than what you've got in your guys now (plus youth).

I could see him going to the Pats for a shot at a title and one more "load up" year, if they can handle it.

I almost typed it, but was going to say "I think he'd be used up for just about any team in the league but the Pats"

No thanks.

I finally FINALLY like their LBs- and thats even if they slide Omar outside, insert Bradley in the middle full time and say
"Peace, cya latah!" to Spikes. If they keep Spikes they're seemingly set.

Looking at his stats, he started in 5 games, and looked to be on pace for his normal totals (if not a bit below them).

But he was placed on IR due to "migraines". That's a very bad thing, especially for someone in his position. Shoot, because of that, I'm not sure even the Pats would look at him, since he'd be liable to fall apart at any time on the field.

I'd sign him just to help Bill Shuey coach the linebackers.

OK I now have a problem with that Johnson, because the way you've phrased that statement it almost seems as if you're saying that there is a problem with AE's "issues" with the man that is supposed to be the coach of the WR's for the Eagles
(I refuse to even type his name)

But I have to say in all honesty Shuey could use the help, and from all of his vast exp. with the FF leagues he's been in he'd probably want him on the team.

(not sure if that last sentance should be in blue or not???)

Take it easy on Shuey... If he can lead my 9th grade football team to an UNDEFEATED (9-0) 1999 season, I don't see what's stopping him from becoming the next Spags...

His tutelage single-handedly propelled me to being able to call plays without having to Ask Madden.
