FB, I agree to a point but there were four guys on the set today and I actually don't think he was one of them, only one guy made any real impression, his last name was Stewart co-host of "2 live Stews" never heard of it before but he was the guy that said Moss would go where the money was greenest...

And therefore would render anyone connecting the Eagles and "where the money is greenest" either a complete imbecile or senile

Actually his opinion was that IF Moss was really going to hit the market the guy/team that would need him most and might be able to talk the team into going afte him was Vince Young because the Titans are 40+millions UNDER the cap. He didn't think the Eagles would go after Moss, he just said Moss would go where the money was the greenest = the most...

That is what I'm referring to Tat.

Utter nonsense

Unless they're drafting Pete Moss, ain't no way Moss plays for this team.

And Moss would be dumb to leave NE. He's got the attention of the best QB of this generation, plus they're a perennial playoff favorite - even with losing in the SB, he's still on a good team.

The only thing that will hurt him is if NE looks at his #s during the playoffs and wonders if it's worth it to give him top $. I mean, he goes from breaking TD records to breaking wind - and it's not a new criticism, either.

The Pats can keep him. The rap on Moss has and always will be that if you jam the daylight out of him, you'll take him out of his game, making him disinterested and a nonfactor. I saw nothing to change that belief last season/postseason.
If the Iggles are actually throwing mad money at anyone this offseason, it should be Samuel or Allen and nowhere else.

FWIW

On patsfans forum, they are talking about Samuel going to either the Jets or Eagles for big money. It just sounds like the Eagles are being mentioned in every single rumor in the NFL. And with phrases like "big money", these rumors have even less validity. I agree with FB, unless I here a rumor about Marty Booker or James Thrash, I'm not buying.

I love Asante Samuel and his love for the big contract is truly hilarious.

Mort and Sal Pal both reporting the Eagles are very interested in Samuel. I, for one, wouldn't be all the way on board with that. It would be exciting, but I'm not convinced his skills will translate to this system quite as well. He just seems perfect for the Patriots type of defense (which has allowed guys like Ty Law and Samuel to make a lot of plays at CB for years) and I don;t know if he's a shut down corner. You're going to have to pay the guy $12+ million per year and I'm not sure it's worth it.

Here are some funny quotes from Samuels (who also has a "get paid" tattoo on his arm):

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/rumors

"Asante Samuel said "it's gonna take a lot" to keep him a New England Patriot the Boston Globe reported.

But the 27-year-old unrestricted free agent cornerback, who has spent his five-year career in New England, added that on a scale of 1 to 10, he'd probably rate his chances of coming back a 10. Samuel had six interceptions during the regular season and has 22 in his career. He's returned three for touchdowns. Samuel made $7.79 million this season after being designated the team's franchise player.

"It's gonna take a lot to make me happy and my family happy," said the first-time Pro Bowler after an AFC practice session at Kapolei High Wednesday. "It's no secret I'm looking for a big, huge, blockbuster deal."

My favorite thing about Asante Samuel is his subtlety. I think I saw him coming out of a Church of Latter Day Saints in upstate New York.

Yeah, but that says nothing about an "elite receiver". It only talks about Ch.....oh.

Seriously, I hope they keep trying for that, because it takes their attention off the really GOOD players that might be available, and who knows? They may slip up and fall into a good deal if they went in that direction.

FD, I'm with you on Samuel. He is one of the better corners in the league, but not for that kind of money. Evidently, patsfans are pretty much down on him as well. They hope he goes to the Jets to eat their cap space on an "above average" corner.

I would like trufant over samual. That being said, regardless of what the eagles spend, they need an upgrade in the secondary. To get one, they are going to have to give a blockbuster deal to samuals or trufant. the pickings are slim. When the eagles identify someone they want, they don't mind breaking contract barriers to get him (kearse in '04). beggers cant be choosers here fellas .

All good DB are better on better Defenses. Ty law (you have to take into account injuries and age when comparing him to Samual, LAW was taking 1 year deals for a bit) didn't have the same impact in KC because KC defense was horrible. Law was still a hell of a player when healthy.

Samual has been HEALTHY and consistent. Again, id prefer trufant, but would take either with a big smile on my face. this is a good thing fellas

For that kind of coin, screw Samuel.

Focus on the front seven, find another capable d-lineman that can pressure the QB with consistency and all of a sudden your corners seem to play better.

ok,
Seeing that Allen will be exclusively franchised, who would you suggest the Eagles should sign on that would prevent them from signing Samual. Or a Lineman that could not be signed if the sign Samual....?

Unfortunately, there are only so many places to spend your scratch this offseason. Unless KC decides not to franchise Jared Allen, there really aren't any impact rushers available. Quite frankly, Samuel is really the only big ticket UFA available that fits an area of need (Trufant is also an RFA). Also, I'd like to know why everyone is so high on Trufant. I'd take Samuel in a minute over him, but I might be missing something. In any event, Samuel has phenomenal closing speed, tackles like Sheldon Brown, and can either run with his man or jam him on the line equally well. Furthermore, he's been consistent, turning in three solid seasons. I don't get the hate.

Exactly right AZ. If the option was whether to spend $90 million on Jared Allen, or Asante Samual, I would jump on Allen. But Allen isn't going to be available. That makes Samual the #1 FA available. I have said it since the middle of the season, the eagles should jump on him.

Trufant is a UFA. He seems a bit bigger. HE had a great post season. I would take either

I would take either at the right price, but I'm not going to make Asante Samuel or Marcus Trufant my highest paid player. Especially when I have two guys I'm comfortable with starting at CB now (minus the Lito injuries).

I think they need to address both CB and DE this off-season, but I'm looking to the draft and trade market.

Julius Peppers will likely be available in trade, for example. Despite his poor output last year, I'd rather give him the $80 or $90 million (plus a second or third round pick) than Samuels.

I just think the trade market is where the value is with FA where it's at right now.

Another thing to consider is the players who will be released. I'd be comfortable with Shawn Springs being added as the 3rd corner and a player like Terry porter draft in the second round or Talib/McKelvin/Jenkins /Insert CB here in the first, for instance.
