One would assume losing Garrett would be a pretty big blow to the Cowboys, so I'm all for it.
Still, other than the public promise he made to Phillips, why is he so adamant about keeping Wade over Garrett?
I mean, he has an easy out with the embarrassing finish and he's being put into a corner with Garrett about to walk. Either he really cares about the feelings of others all of a sudden or maybe he's afraid Garrett isn't ready.
BTW, Cameron would be an excellent choice as ODC and those two should have the offense turned around in no time, but I have no idea why they'd pull a scrap heap guy like Capers into the mix unless the order came down from Marty.
He'd be pulling the entire staff from a 1-15 team to turn things around on a 4-12 team...just seems odd.

Maybe they look at some of those losses and figure that they were close.....just like the Eagles.
Logically, Garrett should be Dallas' HC, but maybe he's waiting to see if a real offer will materialize before sending a counter.
BTW, Norm Chow is out as Tennessee's OC.

According to what I read, he was having difficulty working with Vince Young even though NFL scouts considered his progress with Young so far a "miracle".
One of their big issues according to Chris Mortenson (you can't make this up) is Young's refusal to run the ball more.
Chow wanted him to make 1 read or two at most and take off. Young wants to prove himself in the pocket.
I hope the good people of Nashville like Chunky soup and broken english blogs, because we know where this is headed.

f-d you know who is now smiling from ear to ear, Carson Palmer and Marvin Lewis, WHY, you may ask?!? Well CP came out at the end of the season stating the team needed to make changes in the coaching staff, well who would be better for Marv to hire to appease CP than his former OC from USC that led coached him to the Heisman... Mr. Norm Chow how you gonna like not only getting one of your best pupils back the only way it could be better for Chow was if the Titans were in the AFC North...
Granted this is all my speculation but if I'm right Cincy may be a lot better next year

I just don't see it.
The Cardinals, for all their problems, had a productive offense. They ranked ahead of six playoff teams in points per game and five playoff teams in yards per game.
The Bengals also had a fairly productive offense and have a good history of productive offenses.
Those teams are sick at the front office level, if you ask me. I know I'm not alone in thinking that Mike Brown and Bidwell are terrible owners.

Point. The Bengals' problems aren't really on the offensive side (aside from CJ). their defense is atrocious and embarrassing considering what Lewis came from.
chow going to Cincinnati doesn't change the fact that there's a serious lack of discipline going on with that franchise. And him going to Arizona does little to help their offense, which was already decent with Kurt "My numbers are hollower than McNabb's" Warner and two of the best receivers in football.

I think the reputation of Marvin Lewis has to be fast approaching that of Brian Billick's.
He was a defensive genius with Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Sam Adams, Keith Trailer, Chris McCallister, etc. like Billick was an offensive genius with Randy Moss, Chris Carter, and Robert Smith.

Just a hunch, but I think a little of the latter is true. I also think that Jones saw how his team responded positively to the change to Phillips, and I could understand why he might be a little reticent to upset the entire ship so quickly. I would think twice before feeding a brand-new, relatively young head coach to a team with an emotional basketcase at wide receiver. The expectations and pressure will be enormous for this team next year, which might be a huge burden for a rookie head coach.
Something tells me he might be waiting to see what Garrett is offered and then might counter with a Jim Johnson-esque significant raise, as well as a Gregg Williams-like promise to be the coach-in-waiting.

Ah, but they can't promise jobs anymore.
Thanks to the Rooney rule, any whiff of a written or unwritten promise to give him the head coaching job in a couple years would be expressly forbidden.
In fact, if it got out, they'd probably lose draft picks.

Sure, but I don't think it's inconceivable for Jones to say "You know, we have big plans for you in our future." (wink, wink. nudge, nudge)
With Cameron being fired after just one year, it might not be such a bad move on Garrett's part to take such a deal, banking on the fact that he'd eventually be walking into a nice situation with an established team.

True, but since it's not in a contract or anything, there's nothing stopping Jones from changing his mind if Garrett proves to be a "flavor of the month" coordinator in a year or two.

Exactly. You have to strike when the iron is hot. If Romo would falter or the offense would take a dump, maybe he doesn't look like such a smart guy anymore. Maybe Jones decides to go in a different direction...maybe his leash isn't as long.
With Baltimore he also knows he'll be working with Ozzie Newsome, who might be the best GM in football.

Chad Johnson-WR-Bengals Jan. 16 - 11:57 am et
Bengals coach Marvin Lewis said Wednesday that the team will not trade Chad Johnson during the offseason.
At the press conference to announce new defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer, Johnson's status with the team was the prevailing subject. "He felt he was unduly chastized, ridiculed, we defended him then," Lewis said. "He is a Cincinnati Bengal for quite a while." Johnson hasn't formally demanded a trade, but did hint at doing so in a Mike and Mike interview last week.

-could very well just be posturing to get more for him...However, when you look at his contract, it doesn't look to be in Cinncy's interest to trade him (cap wise)

Bass, Warner DID win a SB and go to a second. He too was upended by Brady and Vinateri.
I don't see the fuss about Garret. He had an excellent team with a pretty solid offensive line. It is easy to look good when you have all the tools in place. Going to Miami where he will have nothing will expose him for an overhyped AC upjumped to HC.
I don't buy into it. Andy Reid did well with pretty much nothing for yeras (shockingly) despite his reticence for abandoning the play action on third and long in the first series, flea flickers, double reverses with his speedster Trash, and tosses to the flat with Pinky catching.
Outside of Bellicheck, I can't think of anyone who did well with overall less. He had shit WRs, scrubs cast off from other teams and molded them into a dynasty. I agree it mostly hinges on Brady. Were he to get injured, I wonder how "genius" he really is overall.
Anyway, I'm not a huge fan of Garrett.

Garret's not going to Miami, Jules. Tony Soprano is. I'd dare to say that Garret has more potential than Sparano, and I'd even go as far as saying he's there in Miami getting tips from BP, since we know he has a huge ego and won't leave well enough alone.
Bass, Warner DID win a SB and go to a second. He too was upended by Brady and Vinateri.
And didn't he throw for like the most yards ever in that SB and only had 24 points?
Even beyond that, I'm mostly talking about his work while he's been a cast-off - he's had games with lots of offensive yardage, but the points don't really reflect. I know other factors come into play - field position, down and distance, penalties, etc. - but his work recently to me rings somewhat hollow.

Garrett turns down Ravens; Philly's Harbaugh could get offer
Wednesday, Jan 16, 2008 11:29 am EST
When Jason Garrett didn't accept the Baltimore Ravens' head coaching offer and left team headquarters Tuesday, the Dallas offensive coordinator likely opened the door for Philadelphia Eagles secondary coach John Harbaugh, a league source told the Baltimore Sun.
While the Ravens are still making a run at Garrett and are continuing to negotiate with him, the team understands that landing its top candidate might have become more difficult because he is being pursued by the Dallas Cowboys and the Atlanta Falcons.
According to the source, the Ravens are ready to hire Harbaugh as head coach over the next couple of days if Garrett is unavailable. Harbaugh, 45, was the only candidate interviewed by the Ravens who was neither a coordinator nor an assistant head coach. He became the Eagles' secondary coach after spending nine seasons as the special teams coach.

Not sold on Garret? Neither am I. But I'm more sold on an OC being HC than a OLC who's following the man behind the manzierre.
Of course, anything that makes the Cowboys worse is always a plus.

If Harbaugh got the job I think I'd be happy for him because he seems like a nice guy, but he seems like and odd choice.
Your first choice is the league's hottest name in offense. Your second choice is the secondary coach for the team that was dead last in interceptions?
I know he was a great special teams coach and he does seem like an energetic, good guy. It's just surprising.
