Chris Chambers was traded to the Chargers for a 2ndf round pick. That's a big, big move for an in-season trade.

Chris Chambers traded to San Diego, per ESPN.

Didn't even know about the trade deadline.

Yeah, big move. Especially since he's been nothing near what he was when be was a rookie.

Maybe he wakes up in San Diego.

Chambers may not make a splash in San Diego (new offense and all), but he's been one of the most unlucky receivers in the game.

He's played with approximately 11 starting QBs, 3 head coaches, 3 new offenses, and the best QB you've ever played with is Jay Feidler, I'd say averaging 900 yards and 8 TDs per season is a miracle.

Don't forget that his best QB was Fiedler. His second best QB was Gu Frerotte, and third is probably a draw between injured Culpepper last year and AJ Feeley.

The guy has been saddled with slop QB after slop QB while learning new offenses every 2 years since entering the league.

At least he'll have two things in SD:

1) A consistent QB
2) A running game to take the pressure off him. When's the last time Miami had even a competent running game?

Unfortunately, he'll have to learn a new system in a couple of years as well, since Turner's not going to last long there. But at least the stability of a pretty good QB and the best back in football should help ease his transition.

Pretty sure Ricky Williams' last year and Ronnie Brown's first year they had a very good running game.

I forgot about Hemp Hook, but even his best year meant squat - 1853 yards and no playoffs.

Even Barry got in the playoffs when he went nuts.

But yeah, it's not as if Ricky had much comp - going against the likes of JJ Johnson, Bernie Parmalee and Karim Abdul-Jabar.

bass, your question was when was the last time miami had a competent running game. i'd say over 1,800 yards by one back on your team is pretty competent.

Yeah, I acknowledged as much when I forgot about Williams. Didn't mean for it to be a "yeah, but" thing.

I think you're missing one key factor with the Chambers trade, he knows the system, Turner was in Miami as an OC so he will have this week (their bye) to get reacclimated to it, I think he blows up in S.D. and takes them to the point they start blowing people out... at least until they meet the Cols or Pats.

In more important news,
William Thomas will once again allow non-teammates to refer to him as Tra.

I find this reassuring.

Nothing big here, but Mike Williams was released by the Raiders today.

He was the 10th overall pick in the 2005 draft, has been cut twice in 2.5 years, and is not currently employed.

Does that make him the biggest bust in NFL history? Has to be in the debate, IMO.

Nah, you can get some bad ones pretty regularly by pick #10. I would think Tony Mandarich, Aundray Bruce, Ryan Leaf-- these guys were bigger busts than Mike Williams.

If he doesn't get picked up again, he'll be out of the league in 2.5 seasons (activated for 28 games).

That would have to be close to a record. I mean, even guys like Leaf and Mandarich lasted longer than that and actually started some games.

Another interesting factoid is NFL.com shows his stats and the face of another first round bust "Mike Williams" the offensive lineman.
