Even if you take into account that he won't see a lot of $$$ in that deal, the signing bonus alone is crazy. Totally not worth it, IMO.

So now the AFC South has TWO high-profile, overpaid and overrated DEs.

So Eagles said "Go fish" to the supplemental draft this year? I thought they lauded themselves on the ability to get diamonds in the rough.

Last year, Rod Marinelli moved Cory Redding from defensive end to defensive tackle in the belief he could be one of the best defensive tackles in football.

On Monday, the Lions backed up that belief by making him the highest-paid defensive tackle in football. Redding, the team's franchise player in 2007, agreed to a seven-year, $49 million contract that included $16 million in guarantees, including $13 million in signing bonus and roster guarantees.

Redding will receive a little more than $20 million over the first three years of his contract.

Wow. Detroit just made Cory Redding the highest paid DT in the game when he's not even the best DT on their roster.

The bar has been raised for mediocrity.

So how will this affect the Eagles' philosophy? I don't think they'll change their mindset - buffoons have been overpaying overrated players for years. But the bar is slowly being raised for mediocre players with these huge contracts (even if a good bit of it is fake money).

They are probably rushing around right now to see if they can give Patterson a raise.

And honestly, though Patterson didn't play great football last year, this is why they signed him when they did. They gave him $9 million in total guarantees and $32 million over a 7 year extension.

If Bunkley flashes at all, I wouldn't be shocked if he's next even though it's nuts.

The Dolphins gave Culpepper his outright release today.

So where does he go? Detroit? Atlanta? Or does Jerry Jones take a shot at him???

Culpepper goes to WAS... Danny likes spending money on "has been" talent.

Id be mildly shocked if Washington did anything to get in the way of what they feel is 'the next big thing' that is Jason Campbell.

I don't see Culpepper going anywhere, at least not this year. 'Course, I could be wrong, seeing as how his agent (himself) has been able to orchestrate his release. He could land the Bears' 3rd spot.

IMO, he's DONE. Is he even worth picking up as an insurance pick?

While I've NEVER liked Culpepper's game, players get thrown away so quickly int eh NFL today. It's just shocking.

He's basically missed 2 years because of a knee injury, but still hasn't had a season with less than 60% completion %, has thrown 39 TDs in a season, has a career QB rating of 90, and is only 30.

It shocks me that retreads get look after look after look and a guy like Culpepper might not get another real chance again.

Again, I think he sucks and always did (the numbers were better than his game), but it's just surprising.

Retreads get jobs because you know what you're getting with them. With Culpepper, what are you getting? Certainly not consistency, and you've got someone coming back from a major knee injury to boot who lost his starting job to Joey Harrington.

What was his Wonderlic?

Seth,

How many starting QB's has Sherman (Snyder) burned through in the last 5 years... QB's and coaches are the two sure things you can expect to change in WAS like clock work...

Fair nuff.
However, in Snyders entire era, you'd be hard pressed to name a QB that the organization was as high on, as they are on Campbell.

Id say Stuffed Pepper goes to J-ville.

They're only focused on 2 QBs in the past 5 years, really - Ramsey (who they weren't as high on as they are on Campbell) and Brunell.

They're not Miami in terms of QB turnover.

And Pepper going to JVille only continues the rich tradition of having an all-black QB depth chart.

Since they've been openly courting him for weeks, I can't see him going anywhere other than Jacksonville, although it looks like Atlanta needs a new QB...

read in the paper this morning that jim johnson challenged him after last season to come to camp in better condition this yr, to help him perford better and prolong his season and career.

In digesting the Freeny and all the wild "D" contracts, I got to thinking about Kearse. I am not sure of his exact values/remaining years, but I am confident after all the money passed out this year, he went from an expected salary cap casualty in '08 to CHEAP? thoughts???

Back in the day, I thought the contract was a bit much. But I'd give him Freeney's $$$ first before Freeney.

Just the nature of the business. As huge as Nate Clements' contract is, it'll be dwarfed in a couple of years. And some thought that Manning's contract was ginormous - the signing of Schaub proved that there are nimrods out there willing to pay top dollar for dollar store products.

Simeon Rice was released by the Bucs, apparently made expendable by the signing of the rookie Adams, and oh yeah- the fact he was due to earn 7.1 million this yr.

Well apparently Rice didnt take it too well.

Was escorted to his car by Derrick Brooks, tears, quotes ranging from Gruden's a puss for sending the GM in to tell him, and callin Gruden a phony and a fake, to stuff like choosing a new team based on whether they face TB in the upcoming season.

Good stuff.
