Read that Donavan Darius was released. Still rehabbing an ankle injury though. Seems like he could be picked up cheaply for a 1 year deal. I am not convinced Considine can bulk up and man the Strong Safety spot, he seems more of a natural Free Safety. Any body see how Considine looked in Mini-Camp?

from http://www.fannation.com/truth_and_rumors/nfl?page=6

The future of NFL Europa will become a hotter topic among NFL officials, as it has at this time of year before. The regular season ended yesterday, the championship game is scheduled for next weekend, and some owners continue to wonder why the NFL is investing in the spring league that annually loses money and doesn't seem to generate much media attention in the United States.

Ok so riddle me this one, IF the NFL europa is such a losing prospect, why the F does Goodell seem to be entertaining the idea of moving regular season games over seas?!? The rest of the world doesn't really get football or at least care about it the way the US does, to me I think that this is a dead issue for Roger... or at least I hope it is...

Because the NFL is obsessed with globalizing the game even if every other professional sport that has tried it has seen a DECREASE in it's U.S. popularity.

It might help if Europa had a single NFL caliber player on one it's rosters, too.

Can't fault the NFL for trying to be the only "football" people talk about.

NFL Europe sucks because the players over there are somewhere between "bad" and "Reno Mahe". But let's be fair - NFL teams themselves have always brought big business overseas, even if what they're perpetrating as football over there now isn't that great.

I bet Reno wouldn't have even started in NFL Europa.

He actually made a nice move every once in a while, but undersized, slow, small, and lacking quickness are a skill set not normally associated with a Pro player.

"Because the NFL is obsessed with globalizing the game even if every other professional sport that has tried it has seen a DECREASE in it's U.S. popularity."

Is there a corollary here FD?

I'd posit, perhaps incorrectly, that the NBA (since I count myslef as one of the shrinking number of U.S. fans who care about pro hoops) has successfully offset the declining attention from the US market because Stern (with a lot of help from Jordan and the Dream Team) made basketball a global game. While the NBA loses fans (or at least eyeballs) domestically, it keeps gaining them overseas. Had the league not gone global 15 years ago, would it's popularity in the states today still be as high was it was in the 80s and 90s?

League revenues continue to climb b/c of overseas fans, even with fewer folks here watching.

Nike is sticking with Vick, innocent until proven guilty...

"There is no change in the status of the agreement between Nike and football player Michael Vick," Stoyer said. "He is rightfully presumed innocent and afforded the same due process as any citizen, rather than be tried in the court of public opinion. Nike will continue to monitor the situation, but has nothing further to say at this time."

The problem is the fans here are the only ones that really matter. The ability to fill seats and U.S. TV ratings are what will sustain the league in the long run and trading that in for a temporary increase in jersey sales overseas is like cheating on Jessica Alba because an ugly girl was closer to your dick at that time.

I'm not saying all those things will happen, the NFL is THROTTLING all other sports in part because they are the last game that features American athletes dominating and American sport, IMO.

Eh...I didn't care what Nike does, but I'm pretty certain it's motivated by business and not moral conviction.

Plus, he's guilty of about a million things even if he's not guilty of this thing. As long as he's selling his jersey and shoes (or whatever they market with his name on it) they'll continue to stand by their "principles".

Either way, it's the right thing to do. Like when Wal-mart donates money to Katrina victims, some say it's to give them better PR and not because of their altruistic nature, but I don't see why the motivating factor is an issue as long as the outcome is good.

Tank Johnson got cut by the Bears.

Some team can pick him up if they're waiting to make a SB run in 2009.

He's not going to make an impact until next year at the very least, and that's assuming that they work something out.

He's already screwed up his parole, and any team that takes him is taking a chance that they're paying for someone who won't be there.
