It’s a good thing he did not side bar that rumor with a innuendo that momma was bailing from Campbell’s Chunky to start hawking Betty Crocker Progesso soup instead. Then the Mcnabb clan would have been really mortified!

Unfortunately, now I'll be subjected to his gigantic ego every week on ESPN. Time to shoot the TV.

"A reporter named Don McKee, who has not stepped foot in an Eagles locker room in many years, if ever, tossed one against the wall to see if it would stick."

and the funny thing is that the blowhard morning host on IP interviewed mckee on mon am and the rest of the show, they ran with the story like it was fact. those who tuned in late probably thought it was a legit rumor, not another shot at mcnabb taken by the bag of shit who runs that morning circus.

"legit rumor"

I really hate to break it to everyone, but there is no such thing. Kinda like an intelligent extremeskins fan.

A rumor, by definition, may or may not be based on fact. It may or may not be overheard at Novacare. It may or may not be started by someone in the know.

One can only determine the possible legitimacy of a rumor based on one's own personal judgment.

Besides which, this is the rumor thread, isn't it? Maybe a second, "More believeable rumors" thread, with the likes of FB claiming he'll actually run the ball occasionally on 3rd and 2.

Dude, it's not a rumor, b/c in a rumor the legitimacy of the comments are in question. They weren't in question in this instance, b/c he wasn't suggesting he heard it somewhere. He was just posing it as an idea. Pretty simple.

Sarge, are you sure you're not a Private?

A rumor is something that is passed around and filtered without named sources.

A fabrication is something that is completely made up with absolutely no basis in fact.

This guy admitted in the article he was making it up but continually adjusted the phrasing throughout the article so anyone who didn't read the disclaimer would read it as something that might have merit.

It was then picked up by national publications as a "rumor" hat was based on his "report", which wasn't a report.

If he wanted to lie and say the idea was pitched to him from "sources close to the Eagles" it would have been a lie, but it would have been considered a legit rumor. A legit rumor, in my opinion, is a report that cannot be substantiated, but at least comes with the claim that the information was obtained from a source who would be privy to such information.

What this guy did was simply make up a fantasy scenario and report it. That's a waste of time and flat out stupid.

Then, at the end, the ridiculous notion that "the only question is whether or not the Bears would accept it".

I'll agree to disagree. I believe the dictionary definition of rumor semantically allows it to include fabrications. You do not.

Enough time spent on this. I believe the secondary can go as high as Ricky Williams at a Black Crowes concert.

Ah, the rite of passage for all NFL "Rumors"... a mention on PFT.

McNABB-TO-BEARS RUMOR IS RIDICULOUS

There's been much talk this week about a rumor floated several days ago regarding the possibility that the Eagles will trade quarterback Donovan McNabb to the Chicago Bears. Before the start of the 2007 season.

Folks, we know things usually get slow this time of year, and we love to monger a rumor as much as anyone, but this one is going nowhere.

First, the Eagles aren't ready to move on (or move out) when it comes to their franchise quarterback. The selection of Kevin Kolb was a shot across the bow, not a kick to the teeth. The message is that McNabb has one more year to re-establish himself as a guy who can play at a high level and stay healthy while doing so. If he can't, then all options are on the table come 2008.

Second, the Bears don't need to risk screwing up a team that is still the class of the NFC by bringing in a high-maintenance hometown hero who's rehabbing a torn ACL -- and who'd be learning a new offense. Also, if the Bears wanted to dump Rex Grossman, they would have benched him at some point in 2006, or they would have made other plans at some point before June of 2007. He's entering the final year of his rookie contract; thus, the Bears can expect to get the best that they ever will see out of him this year. If that's not enough to get them to keep him beyond the coming season, then McNabb could be an option in 2008.

Wow - didn't think PFT could be more ridiculous than this...even beyond them coming out and squashing a rumor...

First, 2008? Kolb won't be ready in one year. Even best estimates are 2 years.

Second, that next paragraph is freakin' ridiculous. McNabb could learn that offense (I mean, c'mon he runs THIS one) and run it better than Grossman. In fact, McNabb would be doing less there than he does here. And it's not as if the Bears had any real choices at QB - Kyle Orton? They had no other choice - Grossman was the best at the position.

Why couldn't they just say "it'd be stupid to trade an all-pro QB for a WLB?"

Nimrodic.

For a 5th rounder.

Guess that just makes all the pain go away from not signing Brees. And is Cleo Lemon still supposed to be their future?

Philadelphia Eagles Updated:06/06/2007
According to the Trenton Times, middle linebacker Jeremiah Trotter has second-year pro Omar Gaither breathing down his neck right now. Trotter was the leader of a linebacker corps that repeatedly failed to plug holes when the defensive line failed to stop the run. Down the stretch, Trotter saw his playing time decrease, while rookie Gaither began to step up.

that's from Sportsline.com

OK so where's the "rumor" in that?!? Dam I hate the offseason, when the only real "rumors" are nothing more than stuff that just about everyone already knows and even some of the coaches have already come out and said, but it still a rumor...

don't feel bad...most of us here live in the phila area, and hear very little information that you also dont have access to in OK.

here is some info from ray didinger on sat am IP.

draft pick he thinks will make biggest contribution this yr. Bradley, LB. says he's the guy most ready to step in right away.

expects Bunkley to live up to his billing this yr. he said he was told that bunkley, being a first rd pick. thought everything would be handed to him last yr, didnt work-out or study the playbook. this yr, he's a different person.

doesnt see a lot of holes for the eagles to fill right now, but TE has a serious lack of quality depth if LJ isnt ready.

said its Bloom's job to lose as the return specialist. ( eeb note: yes i'm self-promoting ! ) .... heard someone else say that Bloom is noticeably faster than just about anyone else who's returned kicks for the eagles in past few yrs, including JR, and that even the average fan will see the difference.

didinger also said he thinks the aussie kicker will be cut...that coaches like the stability of a steady 40 yrd punter rather than a guy who kicks it 75 yds and then shanks a 20 yrdr.

thanks bill.

Bradley - besides his knee surgery, I saw him play quite a few games at Nebraska and in the Big 12. I like that in the big games, at least in college, he came through. I know when they played USC, dude was all out.

bunkley - with all the hoo rah that has surrounded him, I'm ready to see him perform. He hasn't even doen enough to being called freddie mitchell (which is no compliment), but the correlations between the two make me think it's a bust. i hope i'm wrong.

bloom - i'm not that impressed with. again, watched quite a bit big 12 (OU) and saw colorado play as well. return man, hell yeah, anything else? i just don't think he's good enough to compete against the big boys. again, i'm hope i'm wrong.

i know i enjoy hearing you guys rag on WIP (i think it is) but it sure beats the hell outta this shit!! thanks bill

the problem with IP is that most of the shows look for either things to discuss non sports related, or come up with some bizarre angle or idea, just to make people call and defend either one side or the other. many times, i really think the hosts dont believe half of what they throw out there, its simply a means to an end.

the exception, imo is sat. 10am-3pm. probably 9-2 for you. macnow and didinger usually talk football non-stop for 5 hrs. its informative and interesting, not dry. those 5 hrs alone would be worth the time necessary to stream their signal.
