The worry I would have with going after Briggs, is if he is as good as advertised, or is he playing well because Urlacher is opening things up for him? The Bear had a really good D-Line as well, which helped free him up, as well. If Matt McCoy had the free time Briggs had, he would be making plays all over the place too, but we all saw what happened when the D-Line can't get that push.....

"I like Gaither, but have not been overly impressed by Gocong or McCoy."

What!?! You're not impressed with the way Gocong stands on the sidelines in street clothes?

That dude has style.

PFT.com made a great point about Briggs/washington...
rather than explaining it, ill cut and paste...
BRIGGS-TO-'SKINS MAKES NO SENSE

Apart from the fact that Bears linebacker Lance Briggs became a star in a pure Tampa 2 scheme that the Redskins don't run, there's another reason why it makes no sense, in our view, for the 'Skins to add Briggs to the team.

With two big-money free agent linebackers -- Marcus Washington and London Fletcher-Baker -- already in the starting lineup, the 'Skins wouldn't be getting the best return on their investment in Washington, Fletcher-Baker, and Briggs.

Why? Because a defense has three linebackers on the field roughly half of the time.

In the nickel and dime defenses, linebackers are replaced by defensive backs. Teams use the nickel whenever the opponent brings in a third receiver. Typically, that happens in second and long or third and more than three or four yards.

At a time when the 'Skins are still thought to be interested in adding Dre' Bly to a corps of cornerbacks that includes Carlos Rogers and Fred Smoot, it's simply not a good investment of cap dollars to write a big bonus check to Briggs, unless the team is thinking about parting ways with Washington and his base salary of $4 million in 2007.

Meanwhile, ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli is once again creating the impression that he broke the story of a possible trade of Briggs to the 'Skins, even though Jay Glazer of FOXSports.com and Adam Schefter of NFL Network had the story well in advance.

Here is some good news for the Eagles "O" for next season....Reid will not be calling the plays....
From Philly.com.....
"* Offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg, who handled the play-calling after Jeff Garcia replaced injured Donovan McNabb at quarterback last season, will continue to do the play-calling in '07.

"I'll probably let Marty call 'em this year," Reid said. "I thought he did a nice job. I have a lot of trust in Marty. You have to remember, Marty and I go way back. I started doing that [giving up play-calling] with Brad [Childress]. And then at end of year, I started doing it with Marty. I stepped back and kind of watched when he was calling [the plays]. I felt real good about it. It freed me up to see a little bit more of what was going on"

But wait, there's more:

The Eagles will continue to run the ball as much in '07 with McNabb as they did late last year after Jeff Garcia took over. "It will probably be very similar, yeah," Reid said. "It'll probably be very similar to how we finished the season."

The good news just keeps flowing this week.

I really don't like the 700level idea that we have a single thread to cover all things related to a particular topic. Before this idea, if you wanted to post about Takeo Spikes or Reagor, you created a new thread with their name. Now we have the gigantic Player Movement/Rumor Thread.

So I guess the topic about Reid not calling the plays next year is part of Rumor.

Can we please go back to having discussions about specific topics? Start a new thread about Reid's coaching.

Just to follow up, I'd much rather have the choice to dive into the "Takeo Spikes" thread as a topic than search through the Player/Movement thread to find where mention of Takeo Spikes starts.

"I think the plan is to tell McCoy to "go long". Then they don't have to deal with the numbers issue until next year when McCoy figures out the joke and comes back. "

roachie...i think there may still be a legit spot on this team for mccoy. to me, the 3rd down LB is usually faster but smaller. take shawn barber this yr or sim from yrs gone by. thats mccoy. from what i've heard, he finally started picking up the defense at the end of last yr, so dont be surprised if he's the 3rd down LB, or a backup.

its not like they're gonna get a big name to come and play backup LB. mccoy should be as good as anyone.

I'll believe that when I see it.

Just commented on McCoy here somewhere last wk....Id like to keep him, see him healthy (citing AGAIN how the guy was GOOD in the 1st half of the year, before (pick one) he wore down, he got hurt and couldnt carry on in the wt. room, got hurt & smaller and thats not good when you are only 228 soaking wet at the break of camp to begin with).

Id definately want this guy on the roster next yr.

Me too, but only for the fact that they invested a stinkin' second round pick on the midget.

Nah, thats not why- I just wanna see how he would hold up as a back up and Special Teamer and maybe Nickel LB if healthy.

I think whether he's a 2nd or a 6th, he's good enuff to further evaluate and allow to kinda find a niche. At least 1 more yr before contemplating cuttin him.

Cryin out loud, Jerome MacDoNuttin has been doing this for HOW LONG?

I keep waiting for a bucket of green slime to fall from the rafters because this sure looks like the introduction to The Opposite Sketches:

Assuming that McNabb will be back in time for the season, Reid said he planned on having a more balanced offense like the one Garcia ran so effectively in McNabb's absence. The goal: 60 percent run, 40 percent pass, with offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg calling the plays.

Isn't there something in the Book of Mormon about God frowning on liars?

I think it's a typo because they've always preached 60/40 pass and I don't think a team in the NFL ran 60% of the time last year.

McNabb to retire...I don't think so, but the guys at PFT do...

"McNABB TO RETIRE?

Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb is contemplating retirement, a source close to McNabb tells us.

Per the source, McNabb has grown weary of rehabbing the ACL that he tore last season, and he has decided that he has had enough.

"He always gets hurt," said the source. "And he thinks that it's just going to happen again. So why bother spending all the time and effort getting healthy?"

McNabb has missed extensive time over the past several years with a broken ankle, a hernia, and the ACL tear.

The primary in-house options for the Eagles to replace him would be A.J. Feely and Kelly Holcomb. Holcomb was acquired a few days ago in a trade with the Bills. They also could bring in a proven veteran, such as Jeff George."

Yeah...bring in Jeff George...wtf ever
