Gargano is "reporting" the Spikes deal may be done sometime this afternoon and the Eagles are the front runners.

Even if Spikes is at 75%, that's a very good deal. If Walker gets shipped out, it's even better.

And FD, I'd be cool with those scenarios you put out there, if only because the team's got a legit LB.

This would be very, very good. He can play all three posiitons.

I'd still like a huge DT to be taken in the first. I think the run defense needs to be definitively addressed. I'm also amenable to a solid LB if Spikes isn't taken or a safety.

just an fyi, I watched an Indy game yesterday on NFL network and got to see a lot of Monte, two things I noticed, 1) it was a bad game (Indy vs. Jax) Drew and Taylor ran rough shot on the Colts and Monte didn't look very good... but he did have a few really good playsforcing the play to change direction so perhaps it was just the rest of the Colts team that had problems(reminded me a lot of how the Eagles played last year everyone out of position trying to make the play but missing badly) and 2)the other thing I noticed was his size, if he really is only 295 or so it would shock the hell out of me... just think beck to when Cory was still here and was listed around 300 but it was obvious he was much bigger... my guess is Monte is around 315-320... just a guess but I bet I'm not far off...

I hope it's legit. I've always liked Spikes and while I know he's not the same guy he was 5 years ago, he's just so much better than what they have now.
Plus, he plays with tenacity, which this defense sometimes lacks.

exactly right FD. Dawk and Trot talk about it often. "The Dawg". A guy with some heart. He would be a great addtion on and off the field for this D.

I wonder IF this is true, if I should protest losing the bet to jerobi for the level T-shirt... since Spikes would now be an Eagle and I don't think I ever said when Spikes would be an Eagle just that the Eagles would sign him... (granted the bet was over 4 years ago...) Seriously if this goes through would this mean the Eagles are finished until June first or would there be any chance that they continue to shock us and now try and go after Vilma??? I mean nobody would have believed the Birds would trade for a LB prior to this offseason maybe they're going to totally revamp the LB corp... I can dream anyway...

It was 2005 when he missed the majority of the season, although you could consider missing 4 games in 2006 "a lot" of time.

I'm not that excited about the player, but more excited that it looks like the team is recognizing that LB is the team's biggest weakness at the moment. It's pretty surprising.

I consider 25% of the year significant.

You can look at them recognizing that LB is a weakness, or you can look at them filling the spot with a guy coming off a serious injury. I can see both sides of it.

I like this move.

First, the time he missed last year was due to Hammy issues. I have no doubt they were related to the achilles injury in the way that a lot of serious injuries lead to nagging ones the following year as the body naturally compensates for the weakness caused by the first one.

If you want to be positive, you say he had no previous hammy issues, so they were likely a result of his achilles recovery.

As far as "who comes back", I think it's possible to come back, but it's a devastating injury.

Julian Peterson took two seasons, but he was a monster last year (in his second season back).

Derrick Burgess came all the way from a blown achilles also.

Trent Dilfer came back, but he's only a backup QB who could never run to behind with, so he's not exactly a case study. Same goes fro Testaverde.

Grasmanis and Pinky had their careers ended because of achilles injuries.

50% because I just haven't heard A PEEP about it being a done deal, or close to a done deal. I think it is just a bit premature to being speaking as if it has happened.

40% becasue i am just not sure what the eagles have to offer. I am not sure they will give up a 5th rounder.
