If this goes down, it would be an extremely interested development.
1st, Darwin walker might be involved, which means they think Reagor and walker are the same player, but also opens up the possibility of a DT being taken on the first day of the draft again.
2nd, based on the talked about compensation, it represents a low risk high reward payoff. If They give a 5th and Walker, for instance, they are giving away a 5th round pick and redundant, replaceable player. If he doesn't work out, it's no loss. if he plays as well as he did last year, he represents a nice upgrade. If he plays a little better a full year removed from the achilles, it represents a nice upgrade at the SAM.
3rd, it makes you wonder what effect the move has on the rest of the LBs. Does that mean the Banjo Man is done? Will they move him to the weakside (his more natural position)? Will he stay as a depth player? Does this move potentially push Gaither to the middle? Would that move spell the end of Trot or would they be thinking Gaither as a Mike in 2008?
4th, what does this mean for Chris Gocong? He was a 3rd round pick and slated to be the SAM this year. Does this mean they think he's a DE after all? Does it mean he's further behind than they thought?
There are a lot of interesting implications to a move like this.

I think this move will impact the 1st round draft pick the most. Anyone think they don't add a DB with that pick if they make this trade?

I'm fine with a defensive back depending on the player. No Ross, please...I'm a little fed up with 25 year old rookies.
Of note, The Giants have scheduled a visit with Kawicka Mitchell today, which likely signals they are out of the Spikes "derby".

They've been hinting at it all off-season...that's for sure.
I'd rather see a safety than a corner, to be honest.
They could easily end up taking one of each, but I'd like to see Dawk's heir apparent in the fold. Plus, I'm about 85% sold on Considine, but there's still a little question regarding his size and what his long term potential is.
I like him, but I think a safety to groom would be good for both those reasons.

I disagree FD. I would much rather have a CB. I think Sheldon may be best suited as a nickel and wouldn't mind a bit for a young stud to challenge him. What also plays into my opinion is the amount of solid free safeties scheduled to hit the market in '08. The wild samoan from the 'burg and Bob Sanders from INDY will both be on the market. Before you slam me for saying they will both be resigned, think about both particular situations. In INDY, they still have not signed Freeney to a long term deal and cant franchise both of them. Same deal in the Burgh between Troy and Alan Fanaca. There is a good chance both will be on the market, and i would be thrilled if the Eagles could get one of em. Even if they don't sign either of them, they could always draft another safety that year. I want the CB now, I'm just not comfortable having mister GLASS (Joseph) as the NB.

Mlew,
The question if either one is on the market is how willing the Birds' FO will be to pay market value.
I'd still like a huge DT to be taken in the first. I think the run defense needs to be definitively addressed. I'm also amenable to a solid LB if Spikes isn't taken or a safety.

I see about a .001% chance that the Samoan hits the open market. That guy is one of the most popular Pittsbufgh athletes, ever.

Not a Considine fan, either. The D is sorely lacking "playmakers" and from what I've seen he doesn't fit the mold

Regarding CB, I'm not opposed to it, but the 2 guys who will probably be there when the Eagles pick in the first round are Hughes and Ross.
Ross is yet another 25 year old, which just irritates me. I think first round picks should be good young prospects, not guys who have already maxed out physically. It doesn't always apply, obviously, but He was a 24 year old CB covering some 18, 19, and 20 year old WRs and being that old as a rook fucks up everything.
For instance, let's say it takes him 2- 3 years to pick up the D completely and REALLY start showing what kind of athlete he is when he's not thinking about the coverage every down.
If you want to extend him, you've got a 28 year old player a year or so away from FA and it's going to be a tough spot no matter what.
Hughes, on the other hand, is a terrible athlete. He practically looked like a special Olympian at the combine. He's had a successful career, but I don't think he has the athletic ability to play at a high NFL level.
So, I'm not opposed to a CB in the first round, but I don't want one of those two.

KB,
Im not sure about that. I dont see them giving both him and Fanaca Long term extentions. They make the eagles look like Dan Snyder. No way to tell though till it happens.

Oh, and Sanders/Troy P. go nowhere.
I'd say the odds would be EXTREMELY long those teams would let those players get away and if either hit the market, there would be an intense bidding war.
Bidding war = no Eagles.

FD,
You really think its that far off? The Colts are notorious for not paying their D. They have two studs up for big time money and I don't see how they pay them both. In the 'burg, they have concerns regarding TP multiple concussions and may not want to invest big time money, because well, that's just not what they do, with any player. I cant remember the last time they resigned one of their stars to a BIG time contract. Hines Ward was resigned, but I believe that contract was shitty. I'm not sure either way, just speculating.

FYI, the Eagles will have a ton of cash next year. I heard over $30 million. If they REALLY want a guy, they will get him before the bidding war starts

That's before any extensions and re-ups they may do this year, right?

They almost have to, at least for depth.
And is there any word on Mikell being groomed as Dawk's heir-apparant? Thought that was part of the reason he was re-inked.
