wow I wonder if Porter would/will get a look from the Eagles?!? I know he's played in a 3-4 for most of his career but at age 29 he should still have something left in the tank, right???

You would think he's a strongside backer in a 4-3, but one of the main reasons he's gettign cut is because they will likely be running a lot of 4-3 in Pittsburgh now and they don't want to pay top dollar to teach a guy a 4-3 D.

The shocking thing to me is they couldn't trade him. He's still young enough, he's an impact player, and there are a lot of teams flush with cap space who run a 3-4. I'm shocked they couldn't deal him.

Dre Bly actually requested a trade.

Guess after throwing Harrington under the bus, there was nothing left for him to do. Especially not coverage.

Before they got Tatum Bell I thought the Lions would be a team interested in McGahee, being that Kevin Jones COULD miss the season with the Lis Franc injury and all...

A league source tells us that the Browns are expected to sign offensive lineman Eric Steinbach to a deal averaging $7 million per year.

I'm no OL fanboy, but this guy barely rings a bell and he's getting $7M a year. Wow.

TAKEO ON THE BLOCK

Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that the Buffalo Bills are willing to trade linebacker Takeo Spikes.

Spikes, signed by the Bills from Cincy in 2003, missed most of 2005 with a torn Achilles' tendon and was generally ineffective in 2006.

Spikes is signed through 2008. He is scheduled to earn a salary of $4.5 million ins 2007, and a salary of $5 million in 2008.

Not that it will happen, but with Porter and Spikes on the market, a big tim eplaymaking LB is there for the taking

He'll get released, so no real need to make a deal for him.

Plus, I'm not sure he isn't finished. He was a special player, but the achilles is a hell of an injury.

Now is the time to get him if a team is interested, though. If you believe he'll be better his 2nd season off the injury, he may be a value guy, but I wouldn't trade for him or give him any kind of big money.

a list from our budy Prisco, with a few people that I'm curious about...

36. Jerramy Stevens, TE, Seattle Seahawks: I thought this kid would be a star when he came out. So far, it hasn't happened. But the ability is there.

31. Dennis Northcutt, WR, Cleveland Browns: He has the speed teams want, but he wasn't that productive last season. Word is he tired of the losing ways in Cleveland

22. Ian Scott, DT, Bears At 25, this is a guy teams in need of a defensive tackle should target. He opened the season as a starter, lost his job, then played well when Tommie Harris went down.

19. Drew Bennett, WR, Tennessee Titans He's never been a real speed guy, but he knows how to play the position. He will be 29 in August, so you have to wonder when he slows down some. He did average a career-best 16 yards per catch last season, which would mean not yet.

Stevens is apparently a dirtball and isn't well liked by his teamates or opponents. For that reason, I'm not interested but you have to love his size (6'7", I think?) and athleticism.

Northcutt is the guy who is interesting to me on that list. He's a burner and the Eagles need a burner, so he may be a cheap deep threat.

Not to mention that Stevens started the whole "crotch shot" fighting against the Raiders on MNF.

Some great quotes fro Joe Horn talking about "Joe Horn" in the third person.......

HORN BLOWS UP AT SAINTS

Receiver Joe Horn is pissed off at his former team. So, although the Saints have seemingly left the door open to his potential return, it looks like it will be difficult if not impossible to get these two back together.

"Right now it's going around that [the Saints] wanted to restructure my contract and I asked to be released, but this has nothing to do with money," Horn told the Fayetteville (N.C.) Observer. "I wanted to retire as a Saint. I've been through hell and back for that city and that organization. If I wanted out of New Orleans that bad, I would have just kept my mouth shut and let them move the team to San Antonio.

“I just don’t think [head coach] Sean Payton wanted me back. I asked to be released because I felt betrayed by a head coach who wanted to prove he could win without Joe Horn.”

Horn cites the refusal of Payton to use Horn after he had recovered from an injury as the catalyst for the divorce.

"When Sean Payton came here, I promised him I would be the best receiver, the strongest receiver and the best conditioned receiver in the league,” Horn said. "Even after I got hurt, I rehabbed every week, trying to come back. But even after the best orthopedic doctor in the country said I was ready to play and I practiced twice before the [NFC Championship game] against Chicago, he made the decision not to play me. That's when I realized that New Orleans wasn’t going to be big enough for both Joe Horn and Sean Payton."

Opening a spot for Garcia to go to Denver?

31. Dennis Northcutt, WR, Cleveland Browns: He has the speed teams want, but he wasn't that productive last season. Word is he tired of the losing ways in Cleveland

With QBs like Couch, Holcomb, Garcia, Dilfer and Frye, Northcutt has done fairly well. His catch rate:

2000 48.1%
2001 51.4%
2002 78.0%
2003 68.0%
2004 59.0%
2005 55.0%
2006 49.0%

What I don’t quite get, though, is for a “speed WR,” his yards per catch is fairly ordinary.

Career: 12.5 yards per catch and 11 TDs in seven years.

Overall? Pass. He's Greg Lewis.
