Oh, Atlanta is screwed with Mexico, but they could more than likely grab Stanton in this draft (one of their second rounders, maybe?) to replace Schaub as the guy who eventually puts Vick out of his misery.

The other hidden cost here is the fact that the trade is contingent upon the Texans working out a contract for Schaub. It'll be interesting to see how much they have to pay this guy, but he's not going to get less than $10 million upfront...probably more, right?

I agree about Shaub. He was the number one backup in the league and widley regarded as a stud. Its funny, if i am an atlanta fan, i am happy, if not weary of 2 years more of Vick. If i am Houston fan, im looking for some cowboy gear. Fuck this team has shit the bed. Regardless of how Shaub plays, the decesion to not pick Bush or Young was just beyond trash. Pack that with the entire Casserlly firing and i doubt there compatence in a big time way.

One more thing to point out about Feeley -

When the Birds traded him, it was for a 2nd round pick and most of us (or at least I thought) they royally got over on Miami, and Miami thought they had a starting QB. And he was 5-1 as a starter.

Now you've got a team giving up two picks and two spots for someone who's a step below Feeley?

Overpaid.

Though the Texans are free to sepnd their picks as they wish, just like I'm free to laugh at them (and I'll be free to eat crow if I'm proven wrong).

And Seth, I contend that "Slash" was better than Mexico. So calling him that actually makes him seem better.

A stud that, for a time, was being shopped around for a 3rd?

I can't stress enough that if they end up with their QB for the next 8 years (or whatever), the price is a fair one. I'm just talking about value here...

I think they paid too high a price for the "prospect".

I don't think anyone here said Schaub sucks - issue's just with cost.

I wouldn't pick up the phone if this deal was offered for McNabb, though.

And Schaub has his contract from the Texans.

Six years, $48 mil, $7 mil signing bonus.

Guess they have their starter.

KB, i see what youre sayin, but think of it like this- there's an element of scouting and forcasting involved in "gettin the jump" and pullin the trigger on a guy, BEFORE he does produce at a level commesurate w. the price paid, in this case a slide down of 2 spots and 2 seconds.

If ya wait til a guy has a chance to shine and then does- either team A wont want to trade him and you dont get the guy you want, or the price you paid is now laughable and the seller will command much more.

I understand that. I just don't understand anyone that says they see anything in him right now. He hasn't done anything, yet. We saw him play ok against the Eagles, that's about it.

KB, The fact a player hasn't started full time yet doesn't prevent you from making an analysis on his potential. Whether YOU want to believe it or not, he is widely regarded as having the MOST potential of any back up in the league, by far. For the past two years there have been rumors of him being traded for serious compensation or replacing Vick himself. If you haven't heard any of this, I can understand your confusion. the fact is, he is a well known name who has been widely sought after in the past 2 years.

He was not being shopped around for a 3rd. Im not sure you can be confident in saying that when a team paid two high 2nd round and a first round swap for him. A player is worth what another team pays for him.

I guess there is no need for scouting...college players shouldn't be drafted. after all, what have they done in the pros? Its a silly point of contention KB, it really is.

Obviously I am being sarcastic on the scouting comments. That being said, when good players get stuck behind a starter (even if they should be ahead), it is often very well known that the guy can play, just not getting an opportunity. Despite not starting full time, it is widley known that Shaub can play.

You and IMS should start a support support group. I didn't even realize you said anything about Schaub until now.

My whole point is, I think it's near impossible for fans to say he's got any potential, since we haven't seen him play much. He has hardly any resume at all. Unless you watched him play New England 2 years ago, there hasn't been anything at all to like about him. And that's only one game.

As for your other points, you're assuming teams, especially crappy teams like the Texans, don't buy into unfounded hype. That's a bit naive.

You believe there is not such thing as scouting and pro development in the NFL. Only HYPE machines. I really just disagree with your contention that Shaubb is basically just a guy and since he hasnt played many NFL games, cant be taken seriously.

And I'll go one step further. How often does overspending for a team'sbackup work out? Scott Mitchell, Rob Johnson, etc.

I think it's b/c the team doing the acquiring has VERY little to work with/scout, and are wrong in buying into hype.
