Wow. . . I said before thatI'd be happier with Curtis than with Stallworth, and I am. This guy will be just fine.
Can't comment on the money, though. I simply don't think that WR should have been as high a priority as LB. If the FO manages to address the Eagles' three glaring needs (backup RB, SAM LB, and SS), I couldn't complain.

Just for kicks, who will have better numbers next season - Stallworth or Curtis?

Both teams use a "we throw to EVERYONE" style of offense, mixing up the receptions. With Stallworth always an injury risk, would it be a shock to see Curtis have better stats?

Of course, Curtis has to compete with the other ten WRs currently on the roster...before the draft.

I'll keep my fingers crossed that he makes the final roster

So I guess this makes Bethel a kick returner primarily? Still think the defense is what really needs to be upgraded the most.

I wouldn't be surprised if Curtis has better stats next season. But, I think that Stallworth is due to play a full season, so it will be close.

At 1st blush, this smacked of when the Flyers overpaid LeClair after l'affaire Lindros to save face. Then I thought, when did this FO ever give a flying Fuck about PR or what the fans thought.

I just think their "take it or leave it" then "boohoo, we didn't get a chance to match" shtick is costing them opportunities.

Overall. I liked Stallworth. I thought he was a good threat without that much baggage. I haven't seen enough of Curtis to say one way or the other. I just wonder why the #s were so different.

And AZIF, Johnson goes. They used a "Precious" on Bloom, didn't they?

My money is on Bloom. He's got the speed and the work ethic. I think he'll surprise some people.

Given the choice between him, Dillon, Dayne, and Chris Brown...

Good signing. He definitely showed some stuff last year.

Buck's back for 2 more years.

That settles it.

3rd-and-1 will continue to showcase the Eagles' "Big" package that features 4 wide receivers.

Any team can win by following historical precedent and logic, but a true champion is a maverick who bucks the trend, ignores obvious failures and naysayers, and continues to forge their own path to the promised land.

Keep pushing that rock, Eagles.

wouldnt surprise me if a big back is still in the offing. i think they look at buck more as a westbrook fill-in rather than the 3rd and 1 guy. since reno wont be needed for returns and moats is probably gone too, there is room for another guy who can get the short yards.

sorry to combine posts but one other response.

"No, I place Stallworth not being here squarely on the Eagles' shoulders, especially since they showed they were willing to throw a ton of money at a WR, in an apparant save face move."

bass

maybe they just didnt want stallworth for those kind of numbers. my reasoning?

usually a player the eagles tried to keep and then leaves, gets a backhanded compliment from the F.O. and spuds on the way out the door. there has been none of that with stallworth. listening to banner on IP yesterday, he said nothing but nice things and regrets about losing stallworth. same with spuds.

if billy shakes were here, methinks he would say the team president doth compliment too much.

One of the more unusual free-agent strategies seems to be the way safety Mike Doss is doing his business. He was on a sports radio show in Philadelphia last week saying how much he wants to be an Eagle. Then, according to reports, he did the same thing in Cincinnati. Meanwhile, there seems to be no market for Doss, a good player, but ... I don't think the Eagles are going to go in that direction, by the way. If they add a safety, I would expect it to come in the draft.

So if I've learned anything from reading spuds, it's this when he says a player isn't likely to sign or resign with the birds that player signs... so maybe Doss will be an Eagle afterall...

"It was an odd negotiation, because usually the player finishes his visit and then things become very intense quickly and it comes to a head one way or the other," said Banner. "In this instance, because of his change of agents and the additional visit and the oddity of Kevin having jury duty amid this whole thing, it kind of sat there for about six days with nothing happening.

I thought they said he was smart, jury duty?!? he can't be that smart if he couldn't get out of jury duty at one of the most important times during his career...

I like him as a player, but he was involved in 2 incidents (one off the field and one on) that make me think he's not an Eagles kind of guy.

I don't know how serious the rumors are about GB and Oak in talks for a trade, but IF it's serious Brett could get another WR threat(when he feels like playing) and Oakland could get their QB of the future... To me it's a risky trade no matter how you look at it, but it would change just about everyone's draft board's because then I think Oak would then take Calvin Johnson, WR,from GT... but like I said I don't know if the rumors are really that serious...

I guess that would mean the Lions take Russell and Green Bay believes that Quinn will fall to them. Otherwise it's a horrendous gamble to trade Rogers if they think he'll amount to anything.

Anyone see PTI last week talking about how the Packers shareholders had a meeting with the GM to persuade him not to make the deal for Moss? Kornhole and Wilbon go on to say that the decision shouldn't be taken out of the GM's hands. Their idea was to let Brett Favre make the call. Hello? You just said the decision should be up to the GM.

"Brett Favre making the call" is part of the reason why Rogers hasn't amounted to anything yet, if he ever will.

I would think that if Green Bay makes this trade, they would officially be giving up on the notion that Rodgers can be an NFL starter. Since we haven't seen much from him, it's hard to really evaluate his skills, but I get the sense that if he stays in Green Bay, this guy's fate will be similar to that of Matt Blundin*. If I'm not mistaken, both were drafted in the second round to be slowly groomed for the future. Blundin never had a chance to start (I believe he was in KC during the Montana/Bono/DeBerg years), and he was out of the NFL at the end of his contract.

If Favre keeps playing this "maybe I will/maybe I won't" game, Rodgers isn't going to develop as a QB. I doubt they want to wait until the guy is 28 or 29 before he starts, so it may make sense to cut ties and groom a new replacement.

* - I only know about Matt Blundin because he went to my high school and took a lot of criticism when he chose UVA because he wanted to play basketball. He was a mediocre basketball player but a high profile QB. As a 5th year senior, he finally had a chance to start at QB at UVA and set an NCAA record for most consecutive passes without an INT. This propelled him to being drafted by KC (probably a little too high for what he was worth).
