Exactly mlew. Players want to play here, but when the FO makes no effort whatsoever to talk to them before they go talk to other teams, it makes them feel unwanted.

Why in the hell would Stallworth have contacted the Eagles and allowed them to match the offer? They never said dick to him, except to make him an extremely insulting 1.5 million offer.

This is quite possibly one of the dumbest things they've ever done. Letting go a free agent who works well in your system, then paying almost double for someone of arguably lesser talent who is unproven in your system. Pathetic.

Banner defines clusterfuck.

Well I'm happy with the move, the way I think they'll line up will be Brown and Curtis ith either Baskett or lewis in the slot, to me that sounds pretty good... Brown may be able to step up into the #1 role and then you have speed on the other side and and either size(baskett) or speed (lewis) in the slot...

Now the fact that they brought in Dayne is funny, either it's to finally get a big back that should be able to get you that 1-2 yards in short yardage or (as AE suggested to me earlier) to put a little pressure on Buck to resign... either way I'm back on the kool-aide in hopes that this is a sign that the Eagles may actually run the ball this year...

hey now if you believe the spin from the FO you've got to include Reid in that because he "supposedly" is still involved in all these type of things...

and for AE,

in Dayne had played in 83 games carried the ballabout 800 times and fumble 6 times only lost 1...

So maybe they are thinking of him as a short yardage back that won't fumble...

Im not going apeshit over here. I am happy they got Curtis. I AM THRILLED they are not going into the season with brown, baskett, avant. 10 teams were into curtis, 5 seriously. I dont believe the eagles gave an offer WAY over the other teams. This was his market value. Stallworth could only get a 1 year deal. The eagles may have made a mistake in not jumping on Stallworth as soon as they could. That being said, I think they rectified that mistake to the best of there abilities. We cant have it both ways. They needed a speed receiver who can stretch the field. They got that guy now. People are acting as if stallworth caught 6 balls a game or was anything close to 81. HE WASNT, NOT EVEN CLOSE. He made teams respect the deep threat, and with Curtis, that will not changed...much. People always bitch that they dont overspend to ensure they get the players they want. Now that they did. And Id rather them have curtis and less cap room than what they had. They had to move on from the stallworth disaster, this move accomplishes that. ITs a step forward...bottom line.

Sorry. Banner and Grand Poo Bah of all things football in Philly define clusterfuck. Happy? :-)

Seriously, I think Talon's got it right. They never were going to resign Stallworth no matter what. Nothing else can really justify the idiocy that went on with his negotiations, or lack thereof.

I just don't understand the FO's aversion to people that the rest of the league believe to be good. It seems like they have some mandate that says "Well, if he's done well on other teams, he'll just be too much of a prima donna to fit in with us. Gotta be a no-name team player to play with us."

2004 was apparently a major aberration.

I think Stallworth was great and I would rather have him than curtis...That being siad sarge, "I just don't understand the FO's aversion to people that the rest of the league believe to be good" doesn't fit the stallworth scenario. 3 teams wanted him, non for more than a one year deal.
Listening to Banner on WIP, I actually feel confident about this organization, if not still frustrated at there every steady patience. I think they realized they made a mistake on Stallworth, I think they wanted to resign him. The original 2.2 million, one year offer was not that far off from the base offer from NE. Banner claims the rest wa incentives and bonuses they would have been happy to match. Drew went to the birds, saying it would take 1 yr, 5 million to sign. the FO said if you can get that, great. If not, we are still interested. 24 hours later he signed a 3.2 million dollar deal with NE, Rosenwhore did not call the eagles. When asked why he didnt call the eagles abck, rosenwhore said 18 didnt want to come back. 18 told the king, he wanted to come back. Rosenwhore fucked this deal up. ALbeit though, the eagles should have shown some damn inituitive and signed him early

I don't truly believe Rosenwhore screwed the deal. I think the FO's unwillingness to deal with Rosenwhore screwed the deal. Seems to me FB could've easily picked up the phone and said to Stallworth, "Look, we want you back, but the numbers Rosenwhore is putting out there are a little high. Can you either meet us in the middle, or at least give us a chance to match any offer you get from someone else?"

Don't get me wrong, I hate Rosenslut as much as the next guy, but there's no reason to let him get in the way of you signing a guy you truly want on your team. He's just one of the necessary evils of fielding an NFL team.

Also, you'd be safer trusting your coke with Michael Irvin than you would be believing anything Rosenwhore said with regards to these or any other negotiations.

OK, I think i said this a wk or so ago, that IF Stallworth left, but they signed Curtis- it definiely eases the loss of Dante.

I stand by that.

The playbook on O can essentially remain the same, the speed is there on the outside that an opposing coach would have to respect- just like with Stallworth.

Now- Id prefer to have kept Stallworth, but given the choices: Sign nobody- go with the guys on the team now, or sign a retread in June, or sign Curtis- thats an absolute layup. Gimmie Whitey McSpeed.

I dont see why its automatically negative around here following the Curtis signing- I like the player, the SPEED, and I could CARE LESS that he's Mormon- I dont think Stallworth was run outta here cos he aint a Mormon. Again, perfect world? Rosenwhore aint Stallworth's agent, and he is still in Green. But at least they got this cat signed for a couple years (McNabb shoulda whined BEFORE stallworth inked the Pats deal).

Now- About Dayne....
Watchin this cat's press conf. leaves you DUMBfounded...this cat is SOME KINDA DUMB and has a lackadazical, "I dont know/give a F" attitude that was rumored to be his work ethic issues of the past.

We'll see on that front- Im not sure he couldnt be QUASI productive in the VERY limited role they want for him Id imagine, I dont think Dillon's comin here to sit and not get touches, and Dayne played at what, 243 last yr? And had a decent yr?

I dunno. I wanted TJ Duckett to fill this need and I aint gettin him, so Im just as fine with them addressin this on Day one of the draft. May be the best option, actually.

Seth it's obvious there is some prejudice against the mormons...j/k

seriously I would be ok if they sign Dayne to a near vet min contract... we've all wanted a big back for years and he's big and he doesn't fumble...

but like you said I wouldn't mind if they picked someone up in the 3rd or 4th round... I personally would like to see a LB in the 1st... but my guess it'll be a DB...

by the way I just read an old article on Doss, I didn't realize he was coming of an ACL surgery... he was little on the slow side before the injury so my guess he won't be playing much if any this year afterall...

This PE front page blurb makes me feel a little sick:

By DAVE SPADARO -- Ron Dayne has been on the move the last few seasons, and he would like nothing more than to settle down for a couple of years. Philadelphia, in fact, would work just fine with Dayne, the free-agent running back who visited the Eagles on Thursday ...

And it's shown with a picture of Dayne, who appears to be in his mid-50s with his eye rolling up and slightly crossing, his mouth slackjawing open like a drunken grandfather that was just asked a question about current events.

I guess he's a lock for Midnight Green.

If they played last season with Brown, Avant, Lewis and Baskett, and there WAS no Stallworth here ever.....

And they pulled this move in F.A., this yr, this board would be happier by at least 70%.

Just my guess. Im not rippin those who feel jipped etc, I woulda liked to have kept 18 too, but movin fwd, knowin thats not an option- I am happy with this move to cover the need for speed on O.

sorry guys, i'm with seth and mlewis

while donte was my first choice simply because he was a known factor in the offense, in the past 2 yrs, curtis' numbers are better than donte as he has caught 100 passes and 10 td's, all as the 3rd choice in the Lou. while i dont expect him to do much better than that here over next few yrs, as he will be part of the WR rotation packages, i do think he will give the offense the same type of game stallworth brought, speed. add bethel johnson to the mix and the speed factor in the WR's just got turned up a notch.

sorry to those of you who want to sit and grumble all the time. i see this signing as a positive and a step in the right direction.

There's not really an outburst, there's just not excitement by most of us.

Seth, I see your point about if there was no Stallworth last year. But it's kind of sad that we have to make us feel a bit better about this, we have to think of a hypothetical where the Eagles were making even fewer moves.

I see where youre goin here KB. And I have prefaced every post with "Id prefer they kept Stallworth" but the facts are, well, mixed and depend who you believe- but the end of the day says he wasnt playin here ever again.

Now- would the majority prefer sign NOBODY to play WR here, sans maybe a 5th round flier, and go in with Brown, Baskett, Lewis as your top 3, Avant 4?

I far prefer this scenario is all.

why all the crying about stallworth? F him. he missed games due to a bad hammy, is on the verge of one year ban if caught on dope again and wanted money he didn't deserve.
the white shadow is an untapped source... he's been in the league for 4 years and hasn't played a lot, when he has, he's done a top notch job. speed, smart and you know we won't hear a peep out of him in the off-season....whats not to love?
as for ron "thunder" dayne coming to town....i'm all for it. he did a nice job in a limited role. who cares if forrest gump is smarter than him?

Don't get me wrong, I prefer this to everything else, too. It's just the way everything has unfolded. They've been acting like idiots all offseason, don't make much noise, and then this is it.

This is a guy coming off his worst year, and it's like we almost had to beg for it to happen.

I'm just fed up with the way everything has happened. With this team, the end does not justify the means, b/c they sit on their hands, than act like we should be so grateful when they throw a lot of money at a guy who had 470 yards last year.
