Can't wait to see "Garden State".
Last night I saw "The Village". If you're a big M. Night fan, you'll probably like it. I intentionally tried to ignore all the commercials and didn't read anything about it. I guessed the ending from the one commercial, but it was just dumb luck.
I saw another Adrien Brody film, "The Pianist", the other night. Lock up the knives and sharp objects, b/c it's VERY depressing. Brody plays a Jewish pianist in Poland during the Nazi occupation. It's a true story. It's 2 and a half hours, but it really didn't feel like it.

Saw "The Spanish Prisoner" last night. Ugh. I had high hopes -- it had gotten good reviews that I remember when it came out in 1997. The digital guide gave it 3 stars out of 4.
I hated this movie. It was billed as a con-game thriller, "The Sting" for the next generation. How far from the truth. Amateurish, excruciating acting and writing. Steve Martin as a shady businessman could do nothing to rescue this trainwreck.
Also, saw "The Pianist" too (about 2 months ago). Great movie, depressing is an understatement. Certainly made me want to quit complaining about the problems in my life.

I liked the Pianist, but I guess it depends on when you watch it. I saw it on a Saturday afternoon after I was fuly awake, with a nice drink and nothing on my mind. Got me to working on more music.
If I saw it with my girlfriend with any intent on getting any that night, I would have hated it. Emotionally draining movie that leaves you appriciating things, and is by far not a "chick flick" as some people I've talked to since then have billed it.

Hmmmmm,
Girlfriend + talk + expressing emotions = bad.
Girlfriend + mindless entertainment + doing knob on command = good.
Yer a regular ladies man Lyte!

Sly, if you think a romantic evening with your wife is getting her all depressed with an emotional war movie about a guy who loses everything in his life and then expecting some good shagging, well let's just say that explains things.
Women usually enjoy romantic comedies to set the mood, not dark depressing dramatic films about the crushing of a life.
You remind me of the time Homer bought Marge a bowling ball.

KB, you didn't give an opinion on "The Village" Personally I would say save your money.
I don't just mean wait for it to come out on video.
I wouldn't even spend that much,
Here's how bad I thought the movie was:
IF I were to rent the movie with the sole intention of making 10 bootleg copies and then attempted to sell those copies for a dollar a piece, making a profit, I STILL would not rent or recommend that movie to anyone.

Lyte, I don`t need a movie to "set the mood".
But I`m sure you and your "pet of the moment" spend a lot of time surfing the naked channel.
You remind me of a shitass that can`t manage his own life that likes to give unsolicited advice on things you know nothing about.

I liked it, Tat. It was a fitting movie for what the country is going through right now. There's always something more than what's on the surface with his movies, and the way he writes and films is amazing to me. But, to each his own.

Wrong again Sly. There are times that some guys want to just relax with their woman and watch a movie. Some movies take the romance out of it.
But then again, we can't all watch Poltergist and go mud wrestling with the old lady in the back yard in the rain like you can Sly.

"Just saw "Garden State." Great movie, but only if you get off on watching interesting conversations, weird and somewhat dark humor, and some heart tuggin' moments here and there."
Atlanta, you just described 99% of all "indie" films.

I just saw the Mummy's Kiss last night on Cinemax. Horrible plot, weak special effects, bad acting and lots of girl-on-girl action.
I recommend it, especially after your wife has fallen asleep.

my youngest daughter, ( 17 ) brought home a DVD the other day. its an english film from about 6-9 mos ago.
"28 days later"
the people of england are infected with rage, almost like a virus. it was creative and kept ur attention. not a bad film, and the version she brought home had an alternate ending too.

I loved 28 Days Later. May have been the best movie of 2003. The way that sound and camera angles were used even added to a good story.
I've liked all of the English movies I've ever seen (READ... by Guy Ritchie and this guy). Does anyone know of some good English movies that I may not have heard about?

Try watching "Big Sexy" with Ben Kingsley.
He plays a psychotic criminal in this heist flick. He truly convinces you he`s nuts, it`s a long way from him playing Ghandi.
It also stars the dude who plays Al Swearengen on "Deadwood" on HBO whose real name escapes me now. (time for another beer)

Loved "Garden State." Of course, it's where I live, and it was filmed in the twon I lived in until a year ago (South Orange). It was a very life-affirming flick, where the characters were likable. Even the scumbag characters were likable.
Anyone who has seen it, and who has done Ecstasy before, tell me that Largeman's face at the last cut of the E-party early on doesn't completely sum up 90% of all E experiences. Girls there, some touching/kissing, basically can't move from the spot all night, mouth open in a charicature of a smile, cottonmouth.
