The last one was over 250 posts and 4 pages back so...
Saw The Cronicles of Riddic last night. If you're a sci fi/starwars type fan, I think you'll love it. Really good ride of a movie, almost no dulltime, great action, script could be better (but it's sci fi, you expect it) and the plot has a very nice way of working something really cool. I'm already anticipating the sequal.

I've seen a few.
"Day After Tomorrow" was awful. I couldn't make up my mind about what was hardest to believe: the actual plot, Dennis Quaid as a smart scientist, or the fact that Jake Gyllenhaal was supposed to be 17.
"The Weather Underground" was a good documentary about The Weathermen, the radical protestors from the 60's and 70's.
"Melvin Goes to Dinner" Bob Odenkirk ("Mr. Show") directed this movie. It is the film adaptation of the successful play from LA. It's basically a conversation among 4 friends at dinner with some flashbacks. I thought it was pretty good, but not great.
"Pirates of the Caribbean" was pretty good. I thought it ran a bit long, but Johnny Depp was pretty funny.
"Porn Star: The Legend of Ron Jeremy" is a documentary about GGB's hero. As you could tell from "Surreal Life", he really seems like a good guy, not at all what you'd expect the most famous porn star ever to be like.

I also got to see Master and Commander and Starship Troopers II. M&C, if you're interested in sea vessels at all, is a fantastic movie, Crowe does a good job with his role, though he still has that twitch that makes him always come across as slightly crazy.
STII was quite possibly the worst idea to come out of Hollywood since Robinson Caruso on Mars. Think the original but a sixteenth of the budget, very bad acting, highly gory scenes, and some flamboyant nudity by another girl who could have used a boob job (that last job for Mr. Skin Jr, aka GGB). Of course all those elements together make it a great "get drunk with the guys and spoof on some movies night" choice.

May have been convered in the other movie thread, but I saw Mystic River (finally) last weekend.
I thought it was really good (maybe a little slow) bsically because of the actors involved.
Anyone who saw it and understood why the movie didn't end with Sean Penn and Kevin Bacon in the middle of the street, please let me know. There was another 10 minutes on the end that seemed completely pointless to me.
Lyte, is "The Chronicles of Riddick" the sequal to "Pitch Black"? I had heard that somewhere and wasn't sure.

That's exactly what I said when I left the movie.
And I think "Chronicles" is a prequel

Saw "Troy" today. I loved it, but maybe because it was the first English I heard in 3 weeks. The story was based on the Illiad, but is not an exact version. Some things are WAY off.
It's VERY well cast, the characters are deep, the stories complex, the interactions are dramatic, the fight scenes are incredible, and the film captures the majesty of the story. I liked that there was no magic or gods in this version of the story. Achilles is not unbeatable ... just REALLY f**king good. The writers and actors did a very good job of making the characters represent something, but still not feel merely two-dimensional. They felt like people and not just physical embodiments of ideals.
The movie made the armies feel a little irrelevant, but it IS supposed to be about the characters, though. All in all, a GREAT way to spend a rainy afternoon (and it IS raining here ... there's a typhoon headed in tomorrow which kicks off the rainy season).
This could be one of the best movies I've ever seen.

IMO, Brad Pitt is one of the better actors around today. Not only that, he brings a strong presence to the screen and has a knack for choosing good roles in good movies.
Fight Club ... Snatch ... Troy ... all would have been weaker movies without him.
IMO.

Everybody is entitled to an opinion, no matter how wrong it is.
I`ve already heard word of mouth reviews that "Chronicles of Riddick" is the worst movie released so far this year, yet YOU think it`s great.. Hmmmmmm, who to believe?
And Brad Pitt as an actor is on a par with George Clooney, all face, no craft.
You and Uber wouldn`t know great acting if it grew legs amd teeth and jumped up and bit you on the ass.

I guess we don't watch the same movies. I don't consider "John Holmes" to be a great actor.

Yeah, I thought she was good in that movie. She brought a little bit of depth to an otherwise 2-dimensional character.

I'm not saying that she's on par with Al Pacino. I'm just saying that she was better than people give her credit for being, especially in X-Men 2.

"Story of the Weeping Camel". Before everyone writes this off, hear me out. It's a documentary about a family in Mongolia who raise camels and goats. I know, I know, sounds boring as hell. But it really isn't. THeir culture is very interesting. A camel is born, and the mother rejects it, not allowing him to drink milk, and ignoring him all the time. There is a ritual the Mongolians use to solve this problem, and it works in the movie. Check it out.
I also got the "Get a Life" TV show from Netflix. It's Chris Elliot's tv show that used to be on FOX. It's pretty good, but not as funny as I thought it was. It's worth it just to listen for the "Handsome Boy Modeling School" cd samples (Prince Paul and Dan the Automator).

Kill Bill, Vol. 1 -- I was disappointed. Tarantino is obviously very talented, but the bloodshed in this movie borders on pornographic. I am sure that was his intention, but it wasn't nearly as much fun as he thinks it is. I've heard the second one is better -- I'll see it.
My wife has gotten ahold of the "Video on Demand" function of our cable service for the last two Sundays:
Something's Gotta Give -- I liked this movie a lot. Nicholson was great, Diane Keaton deserved the Oscar nomination. Funny, unconventional love story -- It just worked as a film.
Mona Lisa Smile -- Just okay. Definitely a chick flick in the millionth degree. Still, somewhat enjoyable. Definitely kicked off a good conversation about the erosion of traditional gender roles.

Saw Mystic River on Saturday and came away with the same thought. Poor ending to an otherwise pretty good movie.
Chronicles is a sequel to Pitch Black. If you haven't seen PB, it's not bad for a lower budget sci-fi movie.
Master and Commander had it's moments, but I really couldn't stay with it. The captain and doctor's interaction was decent.

Long, you couldn't be more wrong on Vol. 1, fantastic flick and Vol. 2 is equally as good with less blood.
