that was only one part of it. it's one reason people don't think he's great, they think he should be playing better and at least improve over 6 years

Iverson didn't exactly write the book on game-winning shots either. I don't think he had any until he was well into his career. At least Iggy has had a few here and there.

Not necessarily game-winners, but big shots in the closing moments of games. My point is simply this - he's a 'superstar' (because he's being paid as such), and yet when he gets the ball at a crucial moment, more times than not he doesn't get it done.

Not everyone is clutch 100% of the time. One would argue that Robert Horry made more buzzer-beaters than David Robinson (for example), but no one would ever think Horry was the better player. But when you have the opportunity and you're being paid max money, you had better deliver. Iggy hasn't shown that.

I think the guy can play, but certainly not up to the level he's getting paid, which is a product of the FO more than him (but he still needs to step it up). He went OFF in the 1st quarter against the Nugs, and couldn't buy a basket in the 4th until the game was well out of hand. You just can't have that, especially since most people would argue that this is HIS team, not AI's.

yay coach jordan!

"I didn't have it from outside," said Green.

Down the stretch, Jordan kept Green (1-7) on the floor instead of Thaddeus Young, who scored 15 points on 7-for-11 shooting. "Willie was playing well," Jordan said.

if "terribly" means "well", then yes, yes, he was.

Bill Simmons gave a good writeup last week on the Sixers situation.

How much would you have to be paid to attend a 76ers game?

Serious question.

I was thinking the exact same thing re: Iverson and Green while watching the end of the game yesterday.

They had Iverson guarding 6'7" Corey Brewer. Somehow, Brewer only had 2 or 3 FGs for the game, so his defense wasn't hurting them all that bad.

But Green on Flynn, when Flynn was dominating them, was just weird.

I think there should be a rule for Willie Green. If he misses two shots in a row, he should automatically come out of the game, and never go back in.

Trade deadline coming up, Iggy part of some trade rumors. Most notable is a swap with Houston and McGrady's expiring contract (with McGrady thrown in for free).

How do you NOT do that deal? Sure you can't jettison Dalembert quick enough, and Brand probably won't live up to contract, but why not get rid of an above average player making superstar money that you won't be able to build a championship team around anyway?

I don't do it b/c while I don't love Iggy, he's still a good player. There is nobody worth getting with the cap space, anyway, so you're basically getting rid of a good player for no reason.

Plus they'll still have money problems, so it won't matter anyway

2010 Unrestricted free agents:

Joe Johnson
Ray Allen
Manu Ginobili
Marcus Camby
Tracey McGrady
Shaquille O'Neal
Brad Miller
Stephen Jackson
Jermaine O'Neal
Mike Miller
Rip Hamilton

The problem with Iggy is that his ideal position is the 2, but he's not a good enough shooter, which is this team's biggest problem, lack of shooting.

With Thad, they can slide him into the starting 3 and not lose a ton. Thad is young and improving and by the time he gets to Iggy's age will probably be just as good if not better.

If they can get a legitimate 2 like Joe Johnson with the $23 million from McGrady's expiring contract, they would have to make that move.

I actually think Thad has regressed. I think it's coaching this year, but his shooting has gone down both years since his rookie year.

I think if they lose a contract this year, it's just so they don't have to pay the luxury next year. They still won't have room.

That's insane.

Did you EJ's quote the other night after they lost? Dalembert had like 15 rebounds and played great d all game, but didn't play the last 10 minutes or so. They get killed inside while he's out. The reporter says "Did you ever think to put Sammy back in?". He simply says "No"

so the sixer's, in spite of their terrible coach, have reeled off 5 straight wins, unsurprisingly coinciding with iverson's absence.

I'm rooting for losses and more ping pong balls.

What exactly is the point of winning and squeaking into the playoffs to get destroyed by the Cavs or Hawks? Blow it up and get rid of EJ and start from scratch.

i think this team has a decent core and a real bad coach. so i don't believe the team needs to "start from scratch". they need to definitely get rid of jordan and probably get rid of stenfanski. what this team really needs in the draft is a good SG who can run the floor and shoot a little bit.

No argument. At times it seems like she's the only one that cares about the team. Her coverage of the team is fresh, candid, and deep.
