How do you walk Jeff Francoeur? The guy is a bigger hacker than Pedro Feliz and Alfonso Soriano combined.

Like I said before, Lidge has 'Gary Anderson - 1998 Vikings' written all over him.

Although if that involves the Phillies making the NLCS, I won't complain.

i was watching SC last night (that's how desperate i was for phillies highlights/chatter) and they put up an amazing stat. since august 26, howard has an OBP of .500 and 5 hr against LHP. his slugging % is also off the charts, predictably. this is a guy who couldn't hit lefties to save his mother's life for the first 5 months of the season.

strange game.

Jason Weitzel summarizes what I've been driving at with regards to hasty proclamations (re: Mets, Tigers, Phils)

"They say in baseball, you learn something new every day, but in many ways, you don’t. Baseball repeats the same lessons over and over, yet we, as fans, stubbornly block them out. Baseball has built in this 162-game season, the ideal sample size to make informed predictions, the ideal remedy for mid-summer sleep loss. History warns us never to get too high or too low, especially over a team that’s finished with similar marks the last few seasons. The Phillies have become an easy test subject, a mouse that will either reach the cheese or get close enough to sniff it."

i don't know if this is directed at me, but my "hasty predictions" have a decent chance of being 3 for 3.

let's see how it all plays out over the next 2 weeks.

Not at you, just in general. Fans, talk radio hosts, Peter Gammons, everyone.

I don't think saying "the Mets are done" only to have them reclaim first place and then perhaps lose it at the end means you were right about them being done, however.

i agree; i was deliberately stretching there and realize that no matter what happens, i was clearly wrong about the mets.

You'll be right sometimes and you'll be wrong sometimes. I guess the point is that Detroit had a very talented team and was playing in what looked like a weak division so saying they were done in May seemed a bit foolish when you can point to many examples of teams snapping out of it and going on a tear.
