Brutal call on Wright at third. He was out twice.
Not a good outing by Hamels tonight.
And with this brutal greaser music it feels as if I'm watching fuckin Telemundo

What the hell is a greaser?
I'm not up on the WASP slurs of the day.
Does that refer to kids from the wrong side of the tracks, Ponyboy?

he's out for all of next year, too? amazing that less than 24 hours ago it was looking like he might be back this week.
ENY, not sure how you can be "relieved" by this development.

Mets have been beset by injuries all year. Since Wagner's been out it seems that by and large the bullpen has actually improved. I know for as close to a fact as possible that he is not a well-liked guy in that locker room.
Having seen the way he performed most of the year, I really don't think his return or lack thereof was going to be the determining factor. He was brutal down the stretch last year, and it could be said he cost them the world champiosnhip in 2006.
Talent-wise, Ayala's not half what Wagner is, but he also doesn't have all that crap hanging over his head. You know Billy is the kind of guy who reads the papers and takes to heart every word said or written about him.
So you get a guy with a ton of baggage, who's blown the last two seasons for the team, and who's disliked by his teammates out of there. I'm not saying it makes them better, just that I don't think it's the end of the world. For instance, I'd much rather have John Maine back and healthy than Wagner. And for me, it's more fun to root for players who I don't dislike.

Yup. He's a sunk cost for 2009. Welcome to Queens, K-Rod.

ENY, is Ayala definatly the guy?
Or will they do it by committee/matchups or ride a hot hand?

Yes to both... Ayala is the default 9th-inning pitcher, but he's not the "closer" per se. Meaning if they were to face say Howard and Utley back-to-back in the 9th inning, I imagine you'd see Feliciano instead.
