Flesh, tough loss for the Phils tonight, but if nothing else I hope this loss let's you understand the point I clearly was not able to convey to you. The Phils bullpen has been good, but the Tigers (or any other team) would not let Durbin walk away if they they thought he was capable of sustainable sub 2.00 ERA in late innings. And the rest of the Pen fits a similar mold.

glenn, i got your point, but for the millionth time, it was not the point he was making and it was not backed up by anything. you don't call a bullpen with a sub-3 era in late august "a little better than average" unless you just got word that half of them were killed in a car accident.

and don't give me this "the detroit would never had let him go if..." nonsense. durbin has been sensational. the problem now is that this was his first season in the pen and he is one of the league leaders in appearances. he's just got nothing left, no movement on his pitches, that's why he's avoiding the strike zone. he wasn't getting lucky all year, he was flat out dealing but now he's toast. trust me, the mets guy was not refering to any of this.

It's not his first season in the Pen and the Phils bullpen was not sub 3.00 (but only a a little bit over).

And the rest of the Pen fits a similar mold.

what mold is that? that the "rest of the pen can't sustain a sub-2 era. all year? well, i can't argue with that. i guess that makes them only about average, since, you know, most teams do get that kind of production.

oh, regarding the rest of the pen, lidge and romero have dominated for most of the year and they have done it before.

you have to stop, you really sound very, very silly.

but, as we stand right now, the phillies are in real trouble bridging to lidge. not going to argue that point.

It's nice that you have decided that I sound very, very , silly. How did the Phils get Romero and what's his Pre-2007 ERA? Decent at times but volatile as well.

Burrell dropped to five, delivers RBI single in first. Phillies leave 2 on base for the 17th consecutive inning.

Werth has probably been their most consistent hitter all season.

(Well, to be fair, Ruiz has been consistent, as well.)

21 HR in limited playing time. Imagine if Werth had actually started all season instead of having AB's taken away by Gee-off Jenkins.

Kendrick needs to be given the Eaton treatment and sent to AAA. He can't even make it past the 4th inning against the worst lineup in baseball.

I have a feeling the bullpen's extra workload will shrink once he is out of the picture.

Someone here put it best, he is a WHIP disaster. 11 base runners today in 4+ innings.

And look at what lefties are doing to him this year:

.336/.409/.553 (145 sOPS+)

So what do you do now? Go with Happ? Carrasco? A four-man rotation? They can't keep running Kendrick out there every fifth day.

Hamels is the scheduled starter on Sunday versus Santana even though it's Kendrick's turn.

It's a no-brainer but with Charlie you never know.

Well, at least they picked up a game on Milwaukee last night.
