eaton now has an ERA on the farm of over 7. they pushed him down to single A lakewood and he got shellacked. even money he couldn't beat a high school all star team.
i'd really like to see the phils work out some kind of buyout with him over the winter. there is absolutely no imaginable scenario where he could ever pitch for this team again (exception being his inevitable september call up as the last guy in the pen)

I was gonna say, he would instantly become to 7th inning guy for the Mets.
I hope #57 is ready to go nine (or beyond) tonight.

ENY it seems as if anytime the Phils win one like last night the Amazins come right back and take the next one or two

No kidding. This is the third time this year, by my count, that Philly has won the opening game of a series with a late comeback. The Mets are 5-0 in the subsequent games of those series. Ebb and flow, I suppose. I imagine this will go to the end, just like last year.

agreed and that's why i'm happy that this is a short series. fwiw, of the phillies paltry 5 wins against the mets this year, 2 have been in games that santana started. so i'm not writing this one off.
on that subject, i hope kendrick suffers no ill effects from warming up last night. the one gaffe i think manuel made last night was taking seanez out of the game for myers. since the plan was not to let him swing anyway, not sure why it was necessary to risk throwing off kendrick.

neag, yeah, i was going to add that caveat but i still think i would have tried to stretch seanez out rather than potentially screw up kendrick. but you're right, not really a gaffe.

I don't think Santana will be coming out as early tonight as he did the last two times the Phils faced him.

We would be crushing Manuel if any balls were hit Ruiz's way at 3B, though. Apparently, he was taking Howard's practice grounders in the chest.

a-town, you're probably right but i think it was good calculated risk even without the benefit of hindsight given that lidge was on the mound.
ruiz started out his career as an infielder and takes grounders there regularly before games.

I am not disagreeing with you F4F. Just saying it was a risky move that worked out great for him.
Maddux only wanted to be on the west coast, right? I thought I remember reading that he wasn't even interested in going to ATL (before they went into full on sell mode).

GLenn is the expert on athlete's and other celeb's wives.
I remember we were talking about Mike Tirico and Glenn told me "his wife is white and ugly as shit"
So he has those little nuggets of information.

Brad Lidge's wife is hot, but pregnant. We shared a bored moment while our wives shopped at a clothing store on Rittenhouse Square last week.

How does Pedro bring up the "bandbox" after the game? Rollins and Howard's homers weren't cheap, were they? And both teams play in the same stadium, right?

god, was that a stupid comment. so your team couldn't score a single run in 9 straight innings, yet you bring that up?
how bout this: you're pretty closed to washed-up, struggle to get through five innings even when staked to a 7 run lead and your bullpen sucks.
as for carpenter, didn't see that coming from a mile away. why not happ?

Happ got his teeth kicked in at Triple-A last night... something like 70 pitches 7 ER in 1 1/3. Not to mention he's in Pelfrey-esque territory for innings pitched.

so i'm watching the mets version of DNL and the panelists are dissecting last night's game. first guy says "you know, the phillies pitching isn't that great". ok, the phils pitching has carried the team for most of the year, but whatever. but then the next jackoff concedes, with like a half-shrug, "well, their bullpen is actually better than average, you know, it's better than average."
huh? you're a fucking professional baseball analyst working for a team in the same division as the phils and that's what you have to offer regarding the their bullpen? not, say, "well, their bullpen is actually one of the best, if not the best, in baseball and have been all year".
how i loathe lazy journalists.
