Phillies' Stretch Run Thread

other thread getting way too long.

so the phils bring up 34 year old career minor league journeyman andy tracy to replace jenkins. by the way, besides not being able to hit major league pitching (he's got a little pop, thats all), he can't play any position besides first, and yes, like our everyday first baseman, he bats from the left side. awesome.

i cannot remember the phillies ever bringing up a worse bunch of injury replacements than they have this year. couple that with maybe one of the worst benches in the league and there really is an astounding lack of depth on this team. like someone-needs-to-be-fired astounding.

f-b, wonder why fans get on howard and not utley? check out this link - says howard doesn't really like watching film and basically had to be forced to do by manuel.

are you kidding me?
Yo, click it

Yeah Flesh, that's amazing how everyone gets on Howard and not Utley because of THIS-

Are you serious?

Howard is a victim of his own incredible early career success

Now we're pulling the "victim" card already?

FB, is it embarrassing for you to constantly defend those who are proven to be lazy and when its proven etc, like, how does that affect your thinking, if at all?

you start out acting as if certain players are victims due to race, but then shiat comes to light, always, and youre left looking like a stooge defending yet again, a lazy good for nuttin stiff who acts pathetically typical, fwiw.

loves the accolades, cant handle criticism, and is lazy.

fb's favorite players ....

Maybe you didn't notice the blue font, 736.

I hear sometimes people use that when they are being facetious.

yes, i was serious. howard is having a really down year (PLEASE don't post his rbi and HR tota, i am fully aware) and doesn't watch film. utley is a film rat, always looking for that extra edge. see why the fans are more forgiving when one guy slumps? see how it has nothing to do with race?

I'm asking if that you're saying the reason people are booing him is because he doesn't watch film?

I'm willing to bet that 95% of the people who are booing him haven't the slightest clue that he doesn't like to watch film.

In fact, this is the first time I've heard of it.

But you go on ahead now. I like watching you work.

clearly, i'm pointing to a bigger issue which i do believe fans are aware of... that utley is freak about preparation and howard isn't.

so it's easy to guess which player the fans will be less likely to boo if either slump.

all you have to do is look at the 2 guys.

utley is in shape, very neat in his appearance, and clearly determined in his glare etc.

howard is outta shape, paunchy, and has a glove like a rock.

you cant deny that utley's known league wide as the hardest working man in the majors- your boy, uh, not so much, and he's fat and lazy, so there.

I wonder how much film Manny watches-

but point taken, flesh.

Howard sure is a lazy son of a bitch.

3 years in the league, and what has this lazy good for nothin' ever done.

I think they should trade him myself- if they could get anything for him that is.

fwiw, morgan tonight said torre was surprised by the amount of prep work manny puts in, always comes in early for extra work.

Howard sure is a lazy son of a bitch.

ugh. totally irrelevant to the discussion, fred. if a very productive but clearly flawed player could improve his game by working harder, but appears to choose not to, does he get a pass because, hey, he's still productive?

not sure what you aren't getting about this.

What I don't get is that he is getting the "we should trade him" crap- Rollins, I get. You don't bite the hand that feeds you.

But all Howard did was job, drive in runs and win a couple of awards on the way.

So what he's slumping now. Either you think this is the real Howard and trade his lazy ass, or cut him some slack and let him work thru it.

And as far as his body shape? I thought some of you said that he came into this year in much better shape than the past. now all of a sudden he's "fat and lazy" again?

I don't see that you don't get where I'm coming from here.

I'd like someone here to prove to me through incontestable evidence that watching film actually helps you hit a baseball better.

Sure Tony Gwynn swore by it, but everyone's approach is different.

Nobody can say for sure that if he watched 100 hours of film a week, and thought he knew what pitchers would throw him, that Howard would hit the ball any better- it's not 'black and white".

I bet there are tons of guys who watched more film than Tony Gwynn that whiffed their way right out of the majors. And they drove in less RBIs than Howard in the process...

I don't disagree with that F_B. Probably the most convincing argument is "it can't hurt". But even that could be called into question. The whole booing thing is retarded anyway. I would have a hard time booing a player for a team I cheered for. Period. I express any frustration or aggravation in a different way. Like punching a door on the way out of Camden Yards when a walkoff HR is hit by the home team.
