WIP this morning referred to a picture someone had posted of a bunch of penguins standing on ice, with one of them taking a dive into the water. Someone had photo-shopped a Crosby jersey on that Penguin.

Can anyone help me find that photo? I have a friend from Pittsburgh who is gloating already since the Timonen news...

Thanks!

I remember that day you smacked two homers in one game, Jeltzy. What are you doing now? Selling shoes?

And as for Section- I think HULK who knows his Jedi stuff once backed me out here when I said once im about as non-Jedi mentality as you can get, so your crack is about apt.

They're sunk, realistically guys- just stop.

Seth

I was not even being at all serious. Just messing with ya.

For some reason when you wrote the Flyers are DOOMED, Star Wars quotes popped into my head.

However, I'm still not going to write them off just yet even before they drop the first puck.

Think the Flyers will give them all they can handle and I have this GUT feeling the Flyers win this series.

DOOMED they are.

DOOOOOOOOOOMED.

Except for the homer announcers, who think they can win this series in 6 or 7 games, because "teamwork is more important than talent". Oh yeah, and they wasted no time going after the refs, saying the refs can't be a factor in this series.

I don't follow hockey closely, but hasn't one of the Flyers' biggest issues been defense, and how that's been covered up by Biron? I know you're being a paid employee and what not, but how can you say that losing their biggest D player won't keep them from winning the series?

For the answer to 2., see 1.

As long as Biron keeps standing on his head the Flyers have a puncher's chance.

Biron's Playoff Save % and GAA is the worst of the 4 Netminders remaining in the Playoffs. By a pretty good margin in both cases.

Save % margin isn't that big. And it doesn't change the fact that he's been standing on his head. No one else has faced anywhere near as many shots.

Right, which does not bode well for a team that just lost their best defenseman.

Last night the doctor said they'd try to get him back on the ice in three months. The consensus seems to be that no one knows... if the blood thinners are effective, sure, he could go out there and play as soon as Tuesday night. But he'd be doing so w/o doctor's permission and obviously at his own risk... you can imagine the ramifications of playing ice hockey on blood thinners.

What I don't get is a deep vein thrombosis in the foot is hardly a reason to get worked up. The most important thing is establishing he doesn't have a larger clot in a more proximal vein (in the thigh for example or just below the knee).....but the freakin' foot? Most superficial vein clots are treated with hot compresses and rarely need blood thinners. Somehow I don't feel like we have all the relevant details on his clinical status. Shove his foot in hot water. The problem with blood thinners is that you are absolutely NOT allowed to play a contact sport while taking them. That would put him at a significantly higher risk for serious bleeding even from more minor appearing injuries from collisions. Very bad ju ju.

Tell the truth, I don't know that they are as screwed as some make them out to be. Timonnen had trouble when Ovechkin get more physical with him in the latter part of the Crapitals series and he got more chances. Malkin will be physical from the word jump. Flyers will have to play mistake free, risk averse defense. Clear the puck, stay on your man, watch the trailing guys and get back on the forecheck. Make them pay every time they enter the neutral zone and work hard for every loose puck. They have a chance but our outmatched in terms of talent.

Shove his foot in hot water.

Jules, Jules, Jules.

Thank goodness Dr. Barnett is here to give a "sound" second opinion.

Hot water won't retain the heat long enough in order to gain maximum thermal benefit; the heat dissipates much too quickly in which case the patient can develop shriveling of the upper dermis.

My suggestion is, instead of hot water, submerge the foot in a pot of hot grits. You will get much better heat retention that way, and there are aroma therapeutic benefits as well.

PS, Let Kapenanen take a crack in place of Timonnen. He's got the speed for it and is a gritty player. Don't know if he'd be adept at playing back on D and this probably isn't the right time to test it.

LET'S GO FLYERS!

Two quick goals by Richards, so much for my thoughts that he'd be primarily a defensive player this series.

I actually like what I see so far from the Flyers. They are having their way on faceoffs (Pittsburgh is worst in the league in this area) as well as in transition and inside the Penguins zone. Biron was not good in the first period, but neither was Fleury and such is the nature of goaltending. What does not bode well is Pittsburgh has scored three times without a powerplay to speak of...

giving up a goal with 6.5 ticks left is never good.
