If you had HEARD morganti's EXPANDED rant, ON NATIONAL TV this wknd as I did- as a guest on ESPN- he was rippin the refs and their "Habs Bias" as far back as 30 yrs ago it sounded like- and it has nothin to do with who they played.
Seth
He can rip the refs bias all he wants but as I stated earlier today a team from OH CANADA hasn't won the cup since 1993 so who cares. Don't see the conspiracy that the media has presented on behalf to the teams from Canada.
Flyers found a way to win the series and that is all that matters now.
Flyers won on great goaltending and taking advantage of their scoring chances.
I'm just gonna sit back and enjoy the series against the Pens. The Flyers held their own against them this year.
If the Flyers continue to keep their legs moving and Biron plays like he has they are going to give the Pens all they can handle.

BTW, D-bag, my other post that you (typically) overreacted to was a joke. At this point, I am cheering for the Flyers and Wings to meet....I'd take my shot at the Wings perpetuating the Broad Street drought. If not, it would be kinda fun to watch this town explode.

At the risk of stating the obvious, it's all about the goaltenders now. Fleury is finally playing like what we saw flashes of as a junior back in 2003-2004. Most Canadians will never forget his Bill Buckner moment in the World Juniors against the Americans in gold medal final in 2004. Prior to that, I thought Fleury was Hasek-like, after that I thought he was going to go the way of Tommy Salo following the Salt Lake City Olympics of 2002 after he choked in Sweden's loss to Belarus.
Anyway, Malkin is going to have his chances as are Briere and Zetterberg. It ain't rocket science, but it all comes down to Biron and Fleury at this point. I don't know the stats, so I might be BSing here, but it seems like the Flyers were giving up a lot of shots compared to the Habs. I don't know how much longer Biron can keep standing on his head in the face of that. The Penguins can generate a ton of shots when they want to. Not trying to knock Biron at all, I really didn't watch the Flyers much this past season and I never paid much attention to him in Buffalo, so I don't know much about him.
Should be a good series, as an outsider I like the state rivals angle. That stuff plays big in Alberta.

The "State Angle" is 1 sided- trust me, lived both sides.
They HATE the Flyers in the Burgh, we dont think 2x about them historically.
Since Crosby, yeah- they're on the loca radar more, but man, when i went to Pitt in the 90's, their local rock station (our 93.3 equivalent) would play little songs and vinettes about the Filthy Flyers- songs like "You Flyers Scum!" (google it) were sold on CDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We never think about them, they HATE us.
Fun stuff.

Didn't the Guins win 2 cups in the early 90's? They should be somewhat dismissive of any rivalry with the Flyers.

Dude- The "Guins" (man you love coinin'/adoptin bad slang terms; see "Donnie the M" type naming of players) won 2 in the 90's, no doubt.
However, they are OF'FER vs Philly in the playoffs, and not only did they hate playin Philly when I was in college and lived there, got to show the roommates the press quotes in the Gazette of Jagr bitchin that Philly's too rough--and how he hated playin em BEFORE THE SERIES STARTED-- this is still the same team who DUCKED Philly in the 1st round, not wantin to have a physical series in the 1st round (Not that they felt then that they'd lose, and I wouldnt suggest that either)- but they didnt want a physical series...
GGB- Pens in 4?

NOT A RIVAL.
Rangers.
Bruins
Mapleleafs
Devils
Even Buffalo
THESE are Flyers Rivals
Pens?
Maybe of late & goin fwd.
Not a life long rival.

They should be somewhat dismissive of any rivalry with the Flyers.
what also hurts the rivalry is that 99.97% of the philly population hasn't given the city of pittsburgh more that a moment's though since michael keaton and george wendt starred in "gung ho"

I mean, who exactly is Philly able to be "dismissive" of in any sport? Especially one that's hoisted and toured with the Cup?

Morganti’s “hard on” for the Habs more than likely comes from him being a Bruins fan. The Habs have owned the Bruins forever and ever.
And NFN but I probably knew close to as much about hockey as he did say up until 1987. Only watch it now when the Flyers make the playoffs.
Al’s a dolt with a bad hairdo.

All former Patrick Division teams are "Rivals"
Pens were in the Patrick for 11 years...
And I HATE THEM.
I HATED Lemieux!
I still HATE Jager!
and I now HATE their reincarnation of Crosby / Malkin!
Eff them!

Please do not compare Crosby/Malkin to Lemieux/Jagr. Please?
Malkin is a more complete (offense/defense) player than Jagr was at this stage of his career... and Crosby has immense talent. But Mario Lemieux was the greatest player to ever step foot on an NHL rink (yeah that's right, Gretzky, EVER.) Not to mention their styles are far different.
That's why I was so surprised to hear Jagr make the comments that Crosby wasn't as good as Mario before the last series. If anyone should know the pressures of living up to Lemieux in Pittsburgh it's Jagr.
Lemieux could dominate entire series on his own. I haven't seen Sidney take over a game yet. When all is said and done I think Malkin goes down in history as the better of the two.

I wasn't comparing them as far as playing styles.
It was a loose comparison between Penguin star duo's.
I stand by my eff them!
Lemieux was the greatest offensive player to ever step foot on the ice. The cherry picking fag.
...and I would like to add an eff him!

Biron has been awesome and I think that is in large part because of his ability to "short memory" goals. The last game between the Hab-nots and Flyers, he put out of his mind the 4 goals they scored. He was able to focus on the next shot and did incredible down the stretch.
Fleury hasn't been tested as harshly as Biron has.
The Pens shouldn't be dismissed at all. They have lots of great young players and Malkin is the toughest, hardest going player of that entire roster. He goes hard on every play. Their fkn power play has Hossa, Malkin and Crosby (and throw Gonchar in there who can shoot well from the point). I watched yday's game and saw that line play 3:15 of 4 min of a double minor.
They are fast, skate well and have all their key players healthy coming into this game. They have a few bruisers and their top guys aren't small.
Truth be told, I think the Pens will win in 6. Just lethal on the power play and accurate scorers. Just don't see the Flyers advancing "logically" but they still may. Not trying to hate, just watched the entire first two series for the Pens and the Flyers. The Pens are a stronger, deeper version of the Capitals with better goal tending. The Flyers have more "lunch pail" types on their squad and I could be surprised since they definitely do grind it out.

This Flyers team reminds of a Phillies squad in the 90's that defied odds... Guys like Dykstra, Daulton not super stars by any stretch of the imagination but, a close knit good chemistry bunch of players that rode a streak to the W.S. that ended on a coaches blunder.
Stevens does not strike me as a kind of guy that would make a stupid decision to cost a team the cup.
Its a strange feeling that exudes from the Flyers these days that leads me to believe they have the same chemistry as those Phillies.
Flyers have a mojo not seen in Philly in over 10 years.. Something magical is happening in that dressing room and I think they can beat Pittsburgh with the current talent.
Pittsburgh has some demons to overcome. The monkey of supposedly tanking the last game against Philly in the regular season could make them second guess themselves..
It will be a great series.....

BI,
I saw that chemistry when the team rallied around after Rodgers declared his illness and Ramsay was the assistant. The early 2000 Flyers had that for that amazing run before being beaten by NJ. This team has more of a gritty, hard edged feel than the "scruffy", "loose", etc feel of the Phillies of 93.

Flyers vs. Penguins: diving, dumping, dislike
“That’s one of the teams that it’s really not a pleasure to play against,” Malkin said. “I really don’t like playing against them. I don’t like that team.”
Don’t like the Flyers? Join the crowd, Evgeni—most Penguins fans haven’t for 41 years, or since the two expansion franchises joined the NHL in 1967. The Flyers and Penguins share the state of Pennsylvania but not much else, and their rivalry has been a long, lively and, occasionally, bloody one.
Penguins general manager Ray Shero first experienced it as a youngster. When the Broad Street Bullies of Flyers coach Fred Shero, Ray’s father, were winning two Stanley Cups in the 1970s, they regularly beat up on the Penguins— Pittsburgh once went 15 years without winning in Philadelphia.
Not that many in Pittsburgh have such pleasant memories of the Flyers, who lead the series 129-76-31. The Flyers won the three previous playoff series against the Penguins in 1989, 1997 and 2000, overcoming a five-goal, eight-point game by Mario Lemieux (1989) and a five-overtime game in Pittsburgh (2000).
“The playoffs are always intense but it throws a little spice into it when it’s Philadelphia and Pittsburgh,” Sidney Crosby said. “It doesn’t get any easier.”
“We all know what happened against Pittsburgh this year, the things that happened on the ice, the comments that were made after the game,” the Flyers’ Daniel Briere said. “I expect this to have a lot more intensity right off the bat.”
This series is going to be a fkn great. I’m getting pumped and its only Tuesday.
It's not a battle it's a war!!!
