Should be a good game tonight.
I actually get to watch it from start to finish, albeit surrounded by Rangers fans.
Should be fun.

I went to the Flyers/Islanders game Monday and they are a fun bunch to watch.
I also like the fact that somehow the Flyers figured out a way to let people smoke inside, yet the Eagles (owners of an OPEN AIR STADIUM) still haven't figured out how to circumvent the rules.

Wait, where can you smoke indoors? I don't go to too many games at the Center but every time it's been a little roped off area outside.

They have a "cigar bar". Not sure if it was always there of not, but it was right outside my section Monday.

The HOLT Cigar Lounge?
That's always been there.
There's also a Cigar store (I think it's near the bar downstairs) where you can smoke (or could).
Tonite's game SHOULD be good, indeed.
Lookin' forward to it.
Seen nearly every game (or part of every 1) this yr so far (save the one @ Pgh that was on CN8). Very entertaining, FD's right.
Nice to see some speed (Finally) being provided by more than 1 or 2 guys.
Biron; hope he can hold up this well over the season. He's still seeing TOO MANY SHOTS.

By Don McKee
INQUIRER STAFF WRITER
You've got to love Bobby Clarke.
He's 58 and hasn't taken the jock off yet.
Yesterday, the former Flyers general manager, who played 15 years in the NHL and is in the Hall of Fame, created yet another buzz.
Clarke not only went to the defense of Flyer Steve Downie - a permissible stance by any team exec - but he implied that the victim of a sucker punch deserved the shot.
"I loved it," said Clarke of Downie's fist to the face of Toronto's Jason Blake.
Alarm bells went off all over North America.
Downie was suspended for the season's first 20 games for a preseason hit on Ottawa's Dean McAmmond.
In the days after that, Blake implied that the 20-game suspension wasn't enough.
Re-enter Downie. On Saturday, in just his fourth NHL game, the Flyers rookie went after Blake, punching him in the left eye while the victim was being held by officials during a scuffle.
"Blake was a guy who had no problem going out and saying he should be suspended for life or suspended for the year," Clarke told The Sports Network of Canada. "When you say something that stupid, why shouldn't this kid go after him for it?
"The kid did what every hockey player should do. If a player like Blake, who's been around as long as he has, wants to criticize a player, then he has to go on the ice with him and suffer the consequences."
Blake shrugged it off.
This time.
Clarkie, who broke Valery Kharlamov's ankle with his stick in the 1972 World Cup, played in the days when an eye demanded an eye.
He still lives there.
(From the Inky)
Clarke's nuts, but I laughed out loud this AM when I saw him on CSN sayin this right into a camera.
Fantastic.

So, why was there a lockout again?

Forsberg shan't be returning to the Flyers.
Neither of their goalies is standing on their heads right now.
I'm only casually interested, but I thought I heard some boos last night when Briere touched the puck. Has he been a big disappointment or was I hearing things.
They stink.

Some good stuff in this piece outta the DN, so I just posted the entire thing.
They made a move for Kaberle but he wasnt willin to waive his no-trade Clause. They settled on renting Modry, who i do think will help stop the bleeding, at least short term with all these injuries.
More moves afoot, im almost positive.
(I was also happy to see in print finally that Matts Sundin will not waive his clause either cos there's no way in Hell i wanted to part w. Carter and/or any combo of some of the youth they have, for this bum).
OTTAWA - If there is one thing that stands out about the Flyers' new defenseman, Jaroslav Modry, it's that he's not shy when it comes to talking about what the fans can except from him.
"I bring experience, intensity and I am able to move the puck well out of our zone and make our forwards create chances," Modry said yesterday after being traded to the Flyers from the Kings for a 2008 third-round draft pick.
"I am a solid defenseman and am able to play against the best players from the other team and keep them from scoring goals against us. I think I can help the team get better. I can step up and play special teams, too, and be able to chip in and do the right stuff out there."
Modry became a Flyer in the first move general manager Paul Holmgren made since Peter Forsberg's agent said his client is unlikely to play this season. After that announcement, it was expected that the Flyers would make a play for a defenseman.
They made two, the first for Toronto defenseman Tomas Kaberle, who refused to waive his no-trade clause and nixed the deal the Flyers offered to the Maple Leafs.
When that happened, Holm-gren went for Modry.
"We think he can help us," said Holmgren, who is in Naples, Fla., attending the league's GM meetings. "He'll give us more of a veteran presence and he's still a puck-moving, mobile defenseman."
Holmgren said the Flyers hope to have Modry in the lineup tomorrow night against San Jose.
Modry, 36, has one goal and five assists in 61 games this season with the Kings. He will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season and currently makes $1.2 million.
"Is he going to be the difference for us? It might allow us to do something different somewhere else," Holmgren said, indicating he might be able to look for a scoring forward.
While Modry is not the level of defenseman the Flyers were hoping to get in Kaberle, the search for that kind of player is not completely over.
It is dwindling, however. The Flyers are closely watching negotiations between the Tampa Bay Lightning and Dan Boyle.
Boyle will be a free agent at the end of the season and the Lightning is trying to re-sign him. If that does not happen, the Flyers would be in the mix of teams willing to take a shot at a deal.
A Boyle trade would not come cheap and it also would require the Flyers knowing they could sign him.
"We'd talk about a player like that," Holmgren said. "He'd help a lot of teams and we would certainly inquire as to what it would take to get him. But if it got too crazy we wouldn't want to mortgage too much of our future for him."
Holmgren would not say what kind of deal he offered the Maple Leafs for Kaberle, just that, "we expressed an interest in him. There was a deal to be made but he's not going anywhere, so it's a moot point. The really high-end guys like Kaberle just won't walk away from their contracts."
Both Kaberle and Mats Sundin have so far refused to waive their no-trade clauses, preventing Toronto from making a deal. "Tomas Kaberle has a contract for the Toronto Maple Leafs and he is not going anywhere," his agent, Rick Curran, told the Canadian Press. "He signed in Toronto to play in Toronto. He's not leaving. He wants to help this team."

Being that I'm up here in Ottawa for the week, I thought it'd be fun to go to the Flyers/Sens game last night. Didn't get out of work though until late, so had to settle for watching it at a sports bar with my jersey on.
Gotta say Biron played well. Don't know how we got two guys in the box after Spezza takes out Biron. Isn't it a penalty anymore to take out the goalie, even semi-unintentionally?
Haven't followed the team enough to know, but they still look slow. One of the reason I had stopped watching the Flyers was due to Clarke bringing in all slow, big guys and no fast guys. Don't know if that's changed.
Everyone on the TV/morning radio was all stoked about Claude Giroux playing in his first NHL game. Unfortunately, kid had a couple of chances to win it but couldn't come through.
At least it was a good game. Caught the Hurricanes/Sens game up here last time, and that was a total snoozer.

All the Flyers fans who wanted to eschew Clarke's "size matters" philosophy in favor of speed and finesse may have gotten more than they bargained for with Briere. I've never seen a "star"-type player who was so passive on the ice. I think I could knock him off the puck, and I haven't played in years.

He is what he is- he has always had "star" talent but literally disapears for stretches. Did it in Buffalo.
That said, I'll still take him.
As for the team speed, its much better than years past.
Glenn- it means the fans in Deeeetroit are less and less, in the ol' arena.

Well, considering the long run by the Wings, the resurgence of the Tigers (they may sell out CoPa before the first pitch), and fact that Detroit is about 2/3 the size of Philly, and the economy/auto industry are in the dumps, that's not really suprising that the Wings attendance is down, what, 5%?
Detroit as a whole still outdraws Philly, a city 50% larger.
