Nobody yet has offered up another possible reason.

Seth in 736 giving them the kiss of death by saying the series was over?

Seth I fear I speak the truth. -NEAG

WHAT!?

Youve said about 7 words this entire series- and seemed all too like (just like the way you tend to be with the Birds) you were just waitin to jump in here with crap.

I realize they dont DESERVE to advance.

I still like this team, a lot.

Its a step. Im not ruling OUT a win tomorrow, but I put it about as likely as Obama and Clinton running on the same ticket.

ANd thats fine, they deserve to go home. I do NOT think that Stevens should lose his job however.
Not at all.

LETS GO SOUL! MNF BABY on ESPN!!!

55-35 in the third!

Seth,

I dont want to head down the "this city is doomed from a sports perspective" road..

These A-holes had NO KILLER INSTINCT....

The Flyers at times resembled a mother lion trying to teach her children how to kill. Mom knocks the animal senseless and the cubs try and finish the job...

I don't want to sound like some dumb skins fan looking for the conspiracy theory...

This team just does NOT have the killer instinct and that comes from the COACH!

Stevens at times resembles FB with some of the "thought process" I am begining to wonder if he is over-analyzing the damn games

Any talk ever of a city being cursed is WIP worthy, for starters.

SzR- ok i suppose, still dont know exactly what was said but whatever.

No conspiracy theories here tonite...the Caps outplayed Philly.

That place will be packed with the Johnny Come Lately fans, and loud etc..
Id be shocked if Philly came within 3 goals when the final buzzer sounds, and they did it to themselves.

HOWEVER- I would love a victory tomorrow nite even if it meant a sweep in rd 2. I just wanna see them beat those entitled newbie fans back into "Skins goin to the Bowl" talk that usually rules April down there.

If the Brother (me) was coaching tonight.......

1). I got a team hotel in Philly.

2). I have every effin trainer employed by the team in the locker after the game.

3). All players ride the bus back to the hotel where a meeting room with lazy boys and an effin TV and VCR is waiting along with a cooler full of choice beverages..

4). Everyone gathers for a history lesson and a couple of their favorite ice cold beverages. We "hang" for a couple of hours watching the glory days of this franchise. Report time is set for 1300 at the hotel lobby. I don't say a damn word

5). We take the train to Washington

6). In the locker room... Its a one sentence speech... Do or die tonight gents... Your choice!

7). Coach walks away...

Its time for the players to decide if they want to keep playing hockey or golf..... It is out of the coaches hands..

Looking back at history... Philly with a 2OT win to go up 3-1... in my opinion, that was curtains for the Caps.

Credit to them for getting where they are. At the same time, a complete lack of killer instinct from Philly tonight, from what I'm reading and seeing on the DVR.

Worst of all, "Drago" got his mojo back in period 3.

If Philly rolls over tomorrow night, I'll fully admit I jumped the gun--badly--on the "it's over."

Maybe the worst news for you conspiracy theorists--the Montreal win tonight means the NHL is now 60 minutes from a dream-come-true, Crosby vs. Ovechkin matchup.

Worst thing that happened this series was playing the Prevent Defense in the third period of Game 1.

This series should have been over last Thursday.

I don't thnk it is over fo the Flyers by no means.

I did predict the Flyers would lose tonight and they did.

I had a feeling it would go 7 and it is.

The hardest game to win in a 7 games series is the 4th game.

Now we will see who wants its more.

The Caps have shown they have wanted it more than the Flyers just to get it even.

These 2 teams a fairly evenly matched and it has shown that over this seires.

Now we got a sudden death situation.

It's not going to be an easy situation for the FLyers in game 7 but I think if they can with stand the Caps early pressure and keep it close they can pull out a victory.

You guys should petition to have USFL Championships count, if only to knock Willie Penn back down to double digits for a while.

In all seriousness, I think the Flyers have a shot tomorrow night, I think in an evenly-matched series emotion and momentum probably have more bearing on internet message boards than on the ice.

That said, I don't think either team is going anywhere so it does not matter a great deal.

I think it will be a Dallas-Montreal SC Finals.

This blows. The team blows. How can you NOT have a killer instinct? Go in with the foot on the neck and crush the pipe.

Semin is the reason this team will lose. Ovechkin has been kept in check, but it is Semin that is the real back breaker. He finds space, beats his man on the boards, delivers bigger hits.

Pathetic. I would love for them to move on, but the loss of Knuble really will hurt.

Amen brother.

The odds of the Flyers winning the cup were far fetched at best so why all the hub bub.

Philly is so desperate for a winner.

It’s sad.

I agree 100% with GGB's post.

All the pressure's now off Philly and on the Caps....we'll see.
I know Biron essentially stunk up the joint this season in back to back games, so that doesn't bode well, but again, no pressure on the Flyboys now...they're being written off by everyone.

Maybe they have 1 more in em.

Would you change up the lines any?

Was listening to WIP (FEPO) last night and the host went off on a rant, saying that the fans have gotten the last few Flyers coaches fired (it's all Hitchcock's fault, it's all Murray's fault). Thought the fans were clamoring at the time for the GM's head, but the host made it seem like the fans never held the players accountable.

Revisionist history?

Murray's team didn't choke IMO, they were simply outclassed by a more experienced and determined Detroit team. The '97 Flyers beat the Penguins on Mario's (1st) farewell tour, the Sabres w/o Hasek and a Rangers team that was running on fumes. The Detroit team had at least three guys who are likely heading to the HOF someday, as well as the vastly superior goaltender and incredible chemistry.

Course, no one realized this at the time... they just couldn't believe the all-powerful Lindros/Legion of Doom had been neutralized by "a bunch of commie Russians."

No question, but people didn't realize, or at least acknowledge, that at the time. Most people seemed to consider Philadelphia the favorites in that series. At that point, Detroit had been bounced unceremoniously from the playoffs the three previous years, despite having won at least two President's Trophies. By the time the 1997 Finals rolled around, they were seen as hockey's answer to the Bills or the Atlanta Braves. But that changed quickly.

I hear what you're saying. I was in college in Boston at the time so I didn't hear what all the locals were bitching about. I just remember respecting the hell out of that Detroit team. They dominated all phases and aspects of that series against what I thought was a darn good Flyers team.

I think the opposite had actually happened to the Wings the year or two before when the finally made it to the Cup finals and then got doored by the Devils. Probably taught them a bit of a lesson and added to the perception that the Flyers were favorites in that Series.
