Anyone interested? Im interested to see the new aquisitions and to divert my attention from my utterly crushed/dashed hopes for what has been a very fun Phillies ride.

IMS- I LOVE Smith as the cap'n and think its the PERFECT choice. Tough. Defense. Talented. Experienced. THIS IS WHAT YOU WANT and not handin it to a kid who may be more talented or flashy or just the best offensive player- cos as we saw (ugh) with 88- not every one of those have the mental make up to lead naturally.

Perfect fit, IMO.

The Flyers look like the kind of team that should do better in the middle part of the season. I expect them to struggle a bit the first six weeks or so with so many new players.

Oh, and the 11 of 15 on the road to start doesn't help.

Yeah, probably gonna take some time for Briere to adjust and learn how to score with his new teammates...

More about the young defensive pairings and checking lines-- and the fact that I've never been a Biron fan.

Am I the only one who misses Flyers-Canucks on New Year's Eve?

I don't get to see much Flyers regular season hockey, other than when they play NY/NJ teams and the odd VS. feature game (which I think they are going to be more and more). But I got to see the last 3 games start to finish.

Holy shit they look impressive. Biron is just money. They showed they have an edge last night in addition to all the scoring they've been doing.

It's great to see.

Last nite was fantastic, hate the Devils.
Saw most of the 1st, all of the 2nd, most of the third as I switched back and forth to the Rutgers/Frauds game.

So far, so good. And yes- they absolutely have an edge to em. Finesse and offensive firepower? Stout goaltending and edge?

Hope this continues.

Only thing that's been worrisome is shots against/shots for ratio. It'll be tough to keep up the kind of scoring discrepancy they've had if they keep allowing more shots than they're taking.

Its a small issue now, but could loom larger if they don't tighten it up.
Last nite I don't really consider it an issue as the disparity in the power play attempts early on was rather great.

Biron has looked at 185 shots so far. That comes out to a little over 30 shots a game.

I wonder how many of those are scoring chances?

With his GAA at 1.50 I'd say he is defintely standing on his head.

Sat's game against Carolina should be a good one. Two well matched teams. Both goalies are playing great right now. Both teams car score in bunches. Been looking forward to this for a while.

Yeah, these guys are not the same team. As Seth will attest, I used to make the same lame "they still play hockey" joke every start of the year.

This team is actually entertaining, and it's good to know the big move to help the team won't be a rapist or crappy washed up goalie.

This hit by Jones is getting a ton of press and the result of it looked pretty nasty. I watched it several times and maybe it is me, but it doesn't look overly dirty. It was boarding, but I think folks are going overbaord based on how nasty it looked afterward.
