Gotta come clean here, my kid got this game for his birthday and I'm not sure if he enjoys it more than me. I'm very aware that the site of a late 30's guy standing in front of a TV with a small guitar controller slung over his shoulders is a pretty damning site, so I usually play it downstairs in the rec room (read: away from all windows). I thought I might be alone in this, but at a recent neighborhood picnic, I found that there were at least three other dads who had fallen prey to this game as well. Anybody here have it/play it? It's OK, you're among friends...

BTW, there are two more editions coming out.
Plus, there is a new game called Rock Band, and there are controllers for a drummer, a guitar player, a bass player, and a singer.
We should all give each other nicknames and start a Level band. We can compete with the Fly Eagles Fly string band.

GHII is the shiznit. Looks dumbs, but after a few drinks you are completely into it. Next to Mario Party is one of my all time fav games to play when having people over. Its one of those guilty pleasures that many people enjoy but never openly reveal- its like owning a Kelly Clarkson cd.

Guilty as charged (OK, not on the Clarkson CD, but you get the pic).
Gotta admit that I pretty much busted a gut when the drummer blew up after the Spinal Tap song. I hate to say it, but I think that the clandestine target group for this game is actually guys 30-40. Need further proof? I know of the other versions of the game that you're talking about, and the next one is GHII-80's edition. 'Nuff said.
And yes, it is a great game to play at a party with a few under your belt.

GH1 and 2 are extremely fun games. Even if the controller looks dorky, you easily lose yourself. It's easy gameplay that it appeals to everyone, and even if you're not playing, you can sing along to the songs. A great party game.
The "Rock the 80s" one should sell really well.
One point - Rock Band looks to be the next level of musical gaming, while GHIII looks to have gotten rid of some of the fun stuff that made it so appealing (like you'll have to fight Slash in a boss battle, for example).

Level outings at training camp will be replaced with renting a back room in Hooters and hooking up Guitar Hero. With a couple games of Madden.
The cool thing (or so I've heard) is that they're also doing whole albums on the game, and they're covering one of The Who's best albums.

This is the game that Zumaya supposedly fucked up his pitching finger on during the playoffs last year.
You've been warned, Slapshot, keep your kid away from it, he's on a roll right now...

Well, I don't know much about the game, but considering the aim of many new publishers seems to be targeting audiences traditionally turned off to video games, the concept makes perfect sense. Now, if only they had karaoke hero.

I think Id sooner ask the 1st mate, 10 yrs my senior on most outings, to bait my hook and remove anything i catch from said hook for me, before lining up to listen to ANY of those songs listed as fodder for this silly little game.
Sadly, the 1 band questioned is the one with the most musical chops, IMO, or right up there (Asia was alright)- and thats the F.O.Seagulls.
UGH.
SZR- Pass the rusty fork.

They do. It's actually kinda fun, especially in a group setting, watching someone fumble through the words of "Tracks of My Tears".

GHIII is out (and I've heard it's pretty good) and Rock Band is coming out later this month, although you'll have to buy the whole package (guitars, drums and bass, I think) to get the game.

GHIII looks sick. Was in Best Buy the other night and there was a line to play it, like they were giving free Superbowl tickets away. I was gonna hop on but I didnt want to get pwnd by 13 yr olds. Best played in the privacy of your home while partaking of adult beverages.
